brook2704 I've heard it was a bad accident. It is such a busy road at that time of day with even more traffic in the peak tourist period. One side of the road is still closed. Hope your DD2 journey is trouble free.

brook2704 Thu 29-Jul-21 22:15:11

Oh what a shame muse fingers crossed all will be ok next week. Hoping all the people involved in the traffic accidents are ok too

We’re off tomorrow for a weekend break in St Andrews, I’ve packed clothes for all weathers as the forecast is unpredictable but I’m looking forward to it anyhow. DD2 is also away this weekend with the two DGC, she’s got a long drive from Inverness to Manchester so I’ll be happy when she arrives safely. Good of Imogen to keep you updated on their drive Jaxj it’ll be another couple of years or so before mine can do that. Hope your DD and DGC all enjoy their holidays jaxj and the surfing goes well

Awww Slinky - what a lovely name for a gorgeous pup!

Yiayia4 Thu 29-Jul-21 21:33:43

That’s annoying Muse better luck for next week.

Jaxjacky Thu 29-Jul-21 20:28:12

How frustrating muse, ? for next week, he’s a little terror your Mr…..I was being polite. MrJ caught the sun today, helping out on a roof! He’s now yawning and making ‘pained’ noises when he moves!!

Grandmabatty Thu 29-Jul-21 20:16:22

How disappointing Muse. My mum has had something similar done and you would never know she had a skin graft. Hopefully next week will be successful.

muse Thu 29-Jul-21 20:13:05

The hospital is 40 mins drive away so I always check the traffic. 90% of the journey is the A30 - main road south west through Cornwall. All looked well, traffic a little heavy so we gave ourselves just over an hour. I was told not to arrive any earlier than 10 mins. 5 mins into the journey, to meet the A30, we spot the police were closing the slip road. It all looked deserted. Never fear I thought, us locals know another route to pick up the A30 further south west. Going over a A30 fly over - we could see, in both directions a mass of cars at a stand still, about where we would be joining it. Stopped in next lay by and rang the hospital. "Don't worry flower", she said. "Can you get to the clinic next Thursday?" We turned around and went home to surprise Mya with our early return. Apparently there were 3 accidents over about a 5 mile stretch.

We will start the journey down there again next week.

I've had a lovely supportive pm this morning from a GNer who's had the same operation in the same place. BCC removed, biopsy and then a skin graft shortly afterwards.

Can't report good news about MrM. He's been on his feet most of the day Jax. Grabbed 1 hour with legs up. "Just need to infill this trench because heavy rains are coming in. I'm hoping the swab results are there tomorrow. Perhaps there will be a chain and padlock on the prescription.

?? ??‍♀️ Also hope that the surf's not too wild for Imogen.

Jaxjacky Thu 29-Jul-21 19:00:26

Hi all, wise advice to down tools for now soop. I hope today went well muse and MrM is back with his feet up after chauffeur duties.
A very busy day yesterday volunteering, then DD felt poorly, headache, upset tum, the day before their Bude drive. Three negative Covid tests, she felt much better this morning and they arrived at 3:30. She’s booked Imogen a surfing lesson, 8am tomorrow, her consultant said that’s fine, I was surprised, hope the incoming storm doesn’t scupper it. Imogen was keeping me updated on the drive, Stonehenge, shame about the traffic cone. First mini munch cucumbers from the greenhouse today, I made a curry for tomorrow and cottage pie is imminent for dinner also my zoom book club earlier.
I hope no one is dripping in the kitchen from heavy rain tonight, dry here, rain and wind due overnight/tomorrow.
Have fun tomorrow if you are off ‘doing’ and a peaceful evening now x

soop Thu 29-Jul-21 17:02:45

Muse You are most definitely in all our thoughts today. Please update us when you can. I love the quote. It seems most appropriate. flowers

Slinky is super-cute, Nannytopsy

Our internet is far from doing a proper job. Mr Soop has had problems with his computer. I, on the other hand, have been tied to the easel for a very long time. Two mugs of tea have gone cold. I have been instructed to stop and sit down with a third freshly made brew. To be honest, that sounds like a very wise thing to do.

We've had little rain. Managed a short stroll through the village this morning. We took the wee bottle containing sugar water and a spoon with us. As a result, we "rescued" two bees and watched as they sipped the refreshment. Mr Soop said, isn't this a joyful occupation? I have to say, I agreed wholeheartedly.

Bye for today. I trust that we shall all enjoy each other's company again tomorrow. smile moon

Madgran77 Thu 29-Jul-21 16:35:49

Nannytopsy Slinky is cute ...and I am not even a dog lover really!!

Hope all goes well at the hospital Muse

Well yesterday I came home like a drowned rat! Today glorious sunshine with a gentle breeze! Anyone else having trouble deciding what to put on every morning, whatever I choose I seem to get it wrong ...as do a lot of the weather forecasts!!

Grandmabatty Thu 29-Jul-21 08:20:24

Good luck Muse at the hospital today. Puppy overload! I love them. I considered getting a daschund but decided my dog days are over.

muse Wed 28-Jul-21 23:26:03

Glad to see you persevered soop.

The torrential rains have caught a few of us out today. Your holiday too brook2704 sorry. We've all had to take shelter in various places around the building site.

MrM has been under house arrest and Mya has been under lock and key. After nearly 5 hours of leg rest today MrM looks decidedly perky tonight. He did pick his padlock disappear early evening to have a necessary cable layout for the build. We await the result of the swab that was taken on Tuesday. He's back at the surgery on Friday.

Tomorrow, a last minute plan change. I'm off to the hospital to??have the BCC removed from my lower eye lid. Talk about rapid response from the NHS. Talked to the doctor on Monday. Call today from hospital to book me in tomorrow. No guarantees it will be done then because of the position of the skin cancer. Delicate area. Wonder if I will have an eye patch. I'll ask for a multicoloured diamante one.

Two long chats with DD. She is sounding more positive and awaits the result of her maintenance claim. DGD has applied for a job for the summer and perhaps weekends when she starts college in September.

Such a gorgeous colour Slinky is Nannytopsy.
Very cute and adorable Bella Gallen.

We have too many missing GNers grandmafrench. A search party needs to be arranged.

Will it be sun or rain hats for everyone tomorrow? Take care kitcheners.

Thank you for all the kind and supportive thoughts for MrM and my injuries/aliments of late. I said this some while back but I need to say it again. My favourite quote:

I come back here from time to time
I shelter here somedays

annodomini Wed 28-Jul-21 22:47:11

What a cute pup, Galen. Don't be taken in by that innocent look! I'm sure her second name is Mischief!
We've had a few heavy downpours here, interspersed with sunny intervals. I think it's the low pressure that has made my joints unstable today. Standing around with tea and cake after our book club meeting, my left knee kept giving way! It was lovely being able to have a meeting all under one roof at last.

Nannytopsy Wed 28-Jul-21 22:15:14

Evening everyone!
This is Slinky - one very small dachshund pup, our latest Granddog. ? Live your photo Galen !
Sit on your hands soop - leave the painting alone!
We are off to the Black Country tomorrow for my Aunt’s funeral. She was well into her 90s and hers was a life well lived. It should be a celebration I hope.
We have had some good rain for the garden with plenty of thunder too. We had a visitor at the weekend whose comment about the garden was “there’s a lot going on”. I have taken it as criticism and I am cross with myself - it’s our garden, to fill our way!
Well, sleep tight and keep safe!

Yiayia4 Wed 28-Jul-21 21:29:34

Lovely puppy Galen looks just like our Boris.
Very heavy rain and thunder here today,Boris didn’t have a very long walk so has been chewing D.H’s slippers.!!!
Goodnight Kitcheners hope all computer troubles are sorted tomorrow.

brook2704 Wed 28-Jul-21 19:28:59

I’m just popping into the kitchen to get warm and dry as I’m very soggy, dripping wet and cold! Ive been out most of the day, a lovely visit to DD2 house this morning and then a trip round the shops this afternoon with DD2s shopping list of course… I think I’ve become her personal shopper and taker backer too…. ? Anyhow whilst I was in town I treated myself to coffee and cake and sat people watching for a while. There were lots of visitors in the shopping centre, I guess there’s not much else to do here when it’s raining so heavily and you’re on holiday. There’s a campsite just up the road and I did feel sorry for some of the holidaymakers there as it looked so wet and muddy.
Hoping the internet gremlins don’t cause too much havoc soop and madgran
Lovely puppy Galen!

Madgran77 Wed 28-Jul-21 18:14:22

More torrential rain her and unfortunately I got well and truly caught in it on my way back from a not very pleasant dentist trip. I arrived home literally dripping!

I have been having endless trouble with my internet connection too Soop - I actually think it might be the ongoing rumbling thunder causing it maybe!

soop Wed 28-Jul-21 17:16:12

Dear you lovely lot, I have been trying to log on for at least an hour. Was told that there was no internet connection. That's a fib. It was working well enough all day and the blue light remains constant. I'm miffed, to say the least.

Galen, Bella is breagh [beautiful in Gaelic). She is the spitting image of our neighbour's new puppy dog.
Did you meet any ghosts when you visited the tomb? Keep calm...you're not that old. Little children have little concept of the passage of time. It's just as well.

corner I've a drawer full of big girl pants. Go for it. You won't regret having surgery. You will feel rejuvenated. I promise.

We have enjoyed a shower. Nothing to write home about. However, the greenery looks a lot perkier than it did.

I am doing my best not to spoil the Simon cat portrait. Part of me wants to keep going. The rational part says, no, let the painting rest until tomorrow. I must be maturing...ever so slowly, mind.

I hope that when I return tomorrow, the internet connection will have recovered fully. I was on the brink of sending "our" Baggs one of those messages. hmm

Night night for now. Love to you all. smile moon]

cornergran Wed 28-Jul-21 12:41:15

galen, grandchildren do raise a smile, as does that puppy, butter wouldn’t melt.

grandmafrench our Charley is having computer issues, she’s fine, sadly her access to GN isn’t so good. Hopefully all sorted soon.

Off out to lunch now. Trying a garden centre restaurant we’ve not been to before, wish us luck.

Galen Wed 28-Jul-21 12:11:23

I’m ancient!
When watching a tv programme on Tutankhamen last night with the dgc. I remarked that I’d been in the tomb. Were you with Howard Carter they asked?. Then when I said it had been during the war ( Arab Israeli) they wanted to know whether it was the Boer or Second World War?
They’re aged 4 6 and 10.
I’ve finally met my new grandpuppy Bella.

cornergran Tue 27-Jul-21 23:15:59

Steam train trip was relaxing today, last part was on a vintage bus because of an issue with a crossing, suited us just fine. Only one heavy shower while we were wandering around, a pretty good day.

Hope the clinic appointment comes quickly muse, I know the process can be frustrating but if it helps it’s worth it. Not sure what the answer is to Mr M, I’d be having the same issue here if it were Mr C being told to rest.

Some good-ish news, well I suppose it’s good. We’ve had confirmation that it is not anticipated that Mr C will need surgery before Christmas so I have no legitimate reason to duck out of knee surgery in September other than pure cowardice. Big girl pants will be needed.

Thank you for your kind comments about the flowers, we’re actually gradually removing plants from the garden to make it easier to manage, I think we’re at optimum level, I’ve found it a sad but necessary process. My roses are going nowhere though, I love them. There were none when we moved here, somehow we have nine in our tiny garden. Wonder how that happened? grin. They remind me of my Mum who grew beautiful roses, mine have a way to go yet.

Back to normal tomorrow, dust removal and grocery delivery, then it seems we may go on a car hunt again. We’d settled on one but the incredibly long delivery date is making us wonder if it’s the right decision so we’re going to look around again. My guess is we’ll stick with the original car, watch this space.

Sleep well everyone, time for me to close my eyes and dream of steam engines.

Grandmafrench Tue 27-Jul-21 22:51:24

Hi everyone, Hi and welcome back to a hopefully very rested Doodle. I'm just off to bed but wanted to say that I too think that your relationship with your little GC is so entertaining, GrandmaB. He might be a little devil but he's no match for you, we can all see that. (Well, as long as there are end of the day wine glasses to fill and a couch on which to put up your feet after all the fun and games!)

And why wasn't his lolly the right colour? What sort of Gran are you? Have a care, he might have Social Services on speed dial! ?

Yes, it's Wednesday again tomorrow. Oh dear! And will your Mum be pacified with the right colour lolly, or will it take a different kind of food to ensure she's wearing a kind face when you turn up. B.r.e.a.t.h.e - be of good cheer, but take your running shoes with you just in case you need to make a hasty and unplanned retreat!!! Maybe have a pleasant diversion planned for afterwards with someone you can have a good laugh with.....just in case Mother's having a bad day.

Brilliant description of your latest weather, brook - very atmospheric. My DH thought I was joking the other day when I tried to explain that something called the Haar existed! He learns something every day courtesy of Gransnet.

Sounds like Boris and Muse's Mya could get together and create a riot, Yia. Chewing and sandwich-stealing and racing about. What fun they could have. Annoying about your Vit D., levels but hopefully you can put them right with some high doses prescribed for you. Or, go live in Greece - ooh you know you want to! ?

If you are following the thread sometimes, dear Panache love and better days to you. Missing you Izabella - hope life in the Shire is calm and all under control.

Suppose that had to happen again sometime, soop. But the next attempt will be perfect - you'll see. Hope Sweetie Pie turns up again soon to fill her tummy.

Your outing and abouting sounds a lot of fun lately, corner. Hope days are restful and rewarding in between. Anyone have news of Charley? Would be nice to know she's ok.

Now in bed. That's enough for me today. Sleep well, dear Grans. Keep safe and smiling. x

Grandmabatty Tue 27-Jul-21 20:12:52

Thank you, you lovely ladies. Today we had a tantrum because his ice lolly wasn't orange. He ate the strawberry one after I threatened to put it in the bin. Then he didn't want a sandwich. His wee face screwed up beautifully. He wanted ice cream. No chance. Eventually he ate three tuna sandwiches and asked for more. He's a wee devil. When my two were fussy at that age, I gave their dinner to the dog. The tantrums didn't last long ?. His willpower is strong but not as strong as mine. Tomorrow I have a tantrummer of a different sort. My mum. Wish me luck.

Jaxjacky Tue 27-Jul-21 19:56:01

Dalmatians..tut, tut..

Jaxjacky Tue 27-Jul-21 19:47:41

Grandmabatty you deserve at least one large glass, if not more, I don’t know where you get your energy from, cheers ?.
Beautiful flowers corner I was going to cut a few from our garden but they’ve been battered by heavy rain showers. Grandmafrench with all your heat the ground will be tinder dry, just one unfortunate lapse by someone and up it goes, the pompier certainly earn their €€€€.
Best of luck muse keeping MrM static for two hours, never mind two days! And what’s with telepathic naughty cats, Mya and Billie colluding? It’s like 101 dalmatiens with the dogs telegraphic barking near the end.
Yia you should open a business! Boris did look adorable, but with an air of mischief about him. soop it will come, another day or so.
I’ve done some weeding today, in between showers, had a chat with my brother, always lovely. MrJ returned home shattered from work and starving, so a quick trip to the good old f&c shop, they owed us for a disappointing meal a few weeks ago. MrJ wouldn’t have a) complained or b) called it in, I did both, it was delicious tonight.
Stay safe all, have a gentle evening. X

brook2704 Tue 27-Jul-21 19:28:52

Well the rain has eventually arrived in Inverness, a big thunderstorm with heavy rain that lasted about 5 minutes! It’s now gone very misty and the sea haar is creeping up the garden …at least there’s no watering to do this evening but I hope we get the sun back soon
I hope you’ve got your wine now grandmabatty you deserve it!
Beautiful flowers corner so lovely to have your own grown flowers on display
Welcome back Doodle we’ve missed you ?
