Good Morning Everyone,
I have woken up to a wet morning here in Brackley this morning.
My day will be a small early shop , followed by a coffee etc, before settling down to watch the start of todays stage of the TdF which climbs Mont Ventoux twice , this is the climb which the late Tommy Simpson died on ,as there is memorial stone so far up .
Take Care,
Mick

Good Morning Wednesday
(60 Posts)Good Morning all from East Staffordshire where it looks like a wet day ahead.
My dearest Father in Law died yesterday morning, he was taken into hospital on Monday afternoon snd was gone by noon on Tuesday. My DH arrived just 10 minutes before he died, which made him feel like he had made a difference. You can never practice all the stuff that needs doing now.
Mick DH showed me some photos of Tommy Simpson yesterday and he looked very cool, DH has ordered a poster of one of them it looks very iconic.
Have the best day you can my friends, I am spending today with my 2 grandchildren and that will cheer me up no end.
Good morning from a sunny E Kent. Quite chilly though at 13C at the moment.
Doing the laundry today - pairing socks and ironing shirts on the menu.
Taking my old friend out. It is a terrible palaver with having to open/shut her Zimmer frame just so, etc., and not saying anything that might cause her to launch into hurtful passive/aggressive mode. All very wearing, but less than all the stuff I would have to do to visit in the Home. I just turn up and bundle her into the car.
DS1 is off to Bristol today for a week visiting his sister. I’m sending Iris’ new trousers with him. I hope she likes them.
Trust today will be kind to all esp. the poorly, anxious or sad. ???☀️???????
Good morning Mick, morning all from South Lanarkshire where we have a bright and sunny start to the day.
My condolences Scentia
.
I’m walking with a friend this morning, not sure of our route, we’ll just follow our noses I think.
Wimbledon and football took up all of DH’s evening yesterday, good job I can zone out. I’ve finally got the hang of the crochet pattern I’m doing so I can relax more as I’m working on it.
Wishing everyone a peaceful day.
Good morning everyone,
So sorry to hear of your loss Scentia, I hope your husband is coping well. Being with his dad at the end will make it easier I hope.
We are off to Balmaha in a minute to spend the next couple of days on beautiful Loch Lomond. A very sunny morning here. With hindsight we should have gone yesterday as the expected rain didn't materialise. At least we got the grass cut and completely filled the wheelie bin with prunings.
On Loch Lomond we will firstly check out the osprey nest to see if the young are visible yet, have a sail, wind permitting then claim a bay for the night. We hope to anchor in the bay where we saw a wallaby last week. I need to get a photo as we were too stunned when we realised it wasn't a deer. We just gazed at it through our binoculars in wonderment. No, we hadn't been smoking wacky baccy. We saw a wallaby! Will report back tomorrow.
Good morning, everyone, from a cloudy but bright Tobay, if that makes sense?!
Condolences to Scentia, your DH and family on the loss of your father-in-law. It sounds like he wasn’t ill for long and it’s some comfort that your DH was there in time. A busy time ahead for which one is never fully prepared.
Your friend is lucky to have regular outings with you, grandMattie, even if she doesn’t show her appreciation. Have a safe trip and enjoy the chance to be close to nature, Espee! Sounds wonderful!
Following my high BP last week, I’m due an ECG at my surgery this morning. Last time, in January, 2020, it gave a result suggesting I’d had a heart attack but I hadn’t! I do receive good care here, including at the hospital, but my BP remains stubbornly high, despite the best efforts of the surgery and cardiology staff.
Hope everyone has some brightness in their day. ⛅️??
Good morning from another rainy day in the Peak District.
My condolences to your family Scentia.
Muse the make of my boots is Scarpa, the most expensive but also the most comfortable pair of walking boots I have ever owned. The shopping village we visited is in Rowsley. I think another victim of Covid, quite a few of the shops gone and after visiting Bakewell the previous day where it was bustling with activity, it felt eerily quiet. I did google Cauldwell Mill, but the actual mill is closed for repairs at present. Such a beautiful part of the world.
Our walk yesterday took us through Eyam village where they cut themselves off from the country when the plague came in the 16 century. Our walk took us past graves of families, where they all died in quick succession and the Boarder stone where the villagers would leave money for food. Very interesting particularly in view of of the current pandemic.
Another walk planned for today with our wet weather gear on. Freddie loves the rain but not the palaver of a rub down and blow dry when we get back. The rain obviously agrees with his coat as he is looking very fluffy and shiny.
Football and takeaway this evening. Wishing all a good day and may the best team win
Morning Mick and all
We have returned from a short break in a luxurious hotel in the New Forest, where’re we could walk through a nature reserve to the beach it was bliss after not going anywhere for 19 months.
Unfortunately my dear BiL (DH’s brother) died whilst we were away, we knew it was a possibility having visited him last week. He died in his sleep with his wife sitting beside him.
My condolences to you and your family Scentia ?
Not sure what today will bring?
Keep safe and well folks ?♀️?
Some photos of our hotel and the nature reserve
Espee enjoy your time on Loch Lomond. Your story of the wallaby reminded me that I saw 2 brown coloured piglets grazing on the side of the road near Whaley Bridge. At first I thought they were ornaments and was thinking they will soon get stolen, then realised they were moving!
Good morning Mick and all from an overcast S Hants. Scentia my condolences on the death of your FIL ?
Wallaby Esspee crumbs, wonder where that/they escaped from, or were perhaps set free? Good luck with your ECG Ashcombe with hopefully an outcome.
Well, because of events yesterday I had to cancel my dreaded dental appointment, it’s cosmetic, so can wait. A big thank you to all and for helpful PM’s, we move forwards.
Our forecast is for heavy showers again, so it’ll be a quiet day, with a noisier evening ???????.
Have a pleasant day all, still missing a few GNers x
JaxJacky I have just caught up with Imogens diagnosis, wishing her well ?
Good Morning everyone from what was a bright Severnside ten minutes ago to a dull one right now.
Sending you and your family my condolences Scentia. So many things you have to think of and do at a very sad time.
My thoughts for your granddaughter worries Jaxjacky.
Bed changing later and I have to try and get a picture out from behind a cupboard without moving the cupboard. The picture has been resting on the top for months while I decided a new home for it….maybe that was the new home. I expect it will come out with cobwebs attached ?
I just looked up and thought someone else is bed changing and realised I’ve posted part of my post. Maybe having an early breakfast wasn’t the best move.
Have the best day you can all ?
Good morning from sunny Leicestershire although showers forecast.
My condolences to Scentia and GrannyGravy.
Not much on the cards today. The Nordic walking was fun yesterday, I may take it up. Better than Pilates.
We have just returned from that area Dwmxwg. My SiL and BiL live in Bamford at the head of the Ladybower reservoir. It is indeed a lovely part of the world.
Wishing everyone a good day and Imogen a restful day now she is home.
Good morning all.
Condolences to Scentia and GrannyGravy ??.
DH is off fishing today - I hope the rain holds off for him. ?
I have a quiet day ahead. DD will pop in for a cuppa after dropping gd off at school, and before going to work. I’ll try to finish off the crocheted blanket , and finish my book, watch tennis and cook something for our evening meal. We are trying out the 16/8 way of eating. Three meals a day - no eating after 6 pm and breakfast at 10am. It’s working ok at the moment. ?.
DH went up in the loft yesterday to look for our wedding album. (it’s our golden on Saturday). He couldn’t find it. ?. DS1 popped in after work and said ‘I’ll have a quick look up there’. He found it in 30 seconds. DH is not a good looker. ?.
Great pics of your holidays and breaks away . Lovely parts of the country. Let’s hope the weather cheers up for the rest of the summer. ?
Take care all ???????
Well that’s weird, it’s gone !
My condolences to you too GrannyGravy
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a cloudy grey start to the day
Sorry to hear of the loss of your FiL Scentia and your BiL GG13 sad times ahead
We’ve got the DGC here this morning as they ended up having a sleepover last night after a busy but lovely day with us yesterday. So it’ll be a lazy morning I think and then off out to the park and a picnic lunch later if it’s dry.
Your hotel looks lovely GG13 thanks for the pictures
Enjoy your trip to Balmaha Espee we spent a lovely night there a few years ago when walking the West Highland Way. I hope you get your picture of the wallaby- how strange!
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles today and take care all whatever the day brings ?
Ginster your DH had what is called a ‘boy look’ and your son found it because he had a girl look. ?
Another good morning from S Lanarkshire in what promises to be a lovely day.
Sincere condolences to Scentia and GrannyGravy and their families.
Jaxjacky, could I add my family experience of a nephew who developed epilepsy in his early teens. It took over a year to get his medication absolutely right but since then his life has been seizure free, he has a very successful career and a lovely wife and family. Very best wishes to Imogen and your family.
My garden room project continues with some difficulties, I’m trying not to be too concerned and keep it in perspective.
Wishing everyone a good day??
Good morning. A dull one here so far.
Sending my condolences to scentia and Grannygravy13 ?
Luckily my friends test was negative yesterday. I sorted out a big bag full of shoes and bags and took to a local charity shop. Made banana cake, soup and had a catch up on calls with a couple of friends as well as watching tennis. I was hoping the Tunisian girl would go further but wasn’t to be.
Today I’m meeting another friend for coffee which involves a short railway journey. I have a 5 minute journey to the city centre a change of train and a 14 minute journey to where she lives. She lives in Beverley a lovely little market place with nice shops.
Football tonight so ? England can make it through.
jaxjacky thinking of you and Imogen too such a worrying time ?
Wishing everyone a good day. Take care.
Good morning all from a sunny Glasgow, its 13C already, a big difference from yesterday morning.
Scentia, I'm sorry to hear about your father in law, my sincere condolences. Hoping that your husband found some comfort in being with your FIL at the end of his life. ?
Jax, I couldn't stop thinking about wee Imogen, you and your family yesterday. What a traumatic week for you all. Praying that the doctors find a way to manage Imogen's condition.
I was pleased to hear good news from Harri about her husband's chemo and Alizarin, I'm amazed at the speed of your recovery! ?
Yesterday's visit to the cleanest charity shop in the Glasgow area, apart from Baubles of course, (it was spotless) nearly produced a sequel to the Murder in a hotel in Rose Street novel.
I coerced persuaded MrMDoll to come with me, as I can't lift very much. Once more, his audiology problem reared its ugly head.
I told him there were six bags in the spare room to go in his car. Our cars have been parked up the hill, due to the building work, so it was a bit problematic, climbing over all the wood from the old decking, which was lying in the driveway and getting them into the car. We couldn't park closer because of the vans.
I went to check the spare room, since the nameless one can't be trusted. ( He has previous convictions, M'lud.)
To my shock and horror?, the large storage box from the loft, containing some of my summer wardrobe was gone!!
You guessed, someone hadn't listened! AGAIN, he intended taking box with the bags to the shop. ?
This set the pattern for the rest of the day! How can a hulking, big man, disappear into thin air in an almost empty Asda, after being ordered asked to stand and not move???? He blamed it on my mumbling. Sound familiar? ?
I may have to get him one of those leashes, you see toddlers wearing. Neon pink is my preferred choice.
I think my low tolerance levels may have played a part in my lack of patience, the pain in my foot was excruciating and I'm not good at standing on one leg like a bird.?
Blossoming, I will take your advice and rest it today. This pain was normal for me, when I was working, however I just don't seem to have the same resilience these days, Its so blooming frustrating, when I have a life to live!!!
My plans for today are stripping down my sewing macing (its not working properly) and feeding the contractors. I have to say, we are delighted with the workmanship so far.
I do love a bit of problem solving and tinkering with things. It helps keep me out of mischief! ?
Over the last few days, I have unexpectedly received some very kind messages from a few Gransnetters ( I will reply) and saw a couple of posts about me, (albeit positive ones) which reduced me to tears.
Without wishing to appear like a drama queen, I have been very low recently and irrationally felt that unfairly, I was personna non grata in some quarters on GN, so felt reluctant to post. I acknowledge that I'm not everyone's cup of tea! ? Then my addiction took over, I'm a frustrated author and need an outlet for my ramblings! ?
So thank you lovely posters for your kindness!
Wishing you all, a pleasant day and virtual hugs for all who are struggling.
I've noticed my meet up pal Grammaretto, hasn't been about, I hope all is well.
Good morning from a grey but dry (for now) Colchester.
Regular Wednesday coffee meetup this morning. Looking forward to being able to sit in a bigger group indoors. We were sitting on 2 tables last week and were told off for talking to people on the next table. The weather's too bad to sit outside.
Slow work man should be here any minute to finish off our front path. DH is waiting to have a word. We had a few other things that needed doing but we just want to get shot of this guy and will finish off ourselves!
Sending big hugs to Scentia and GrannyGravy and love to all x
Good morning from Ilfacombe where another showery day is forecast. Scentia condolences on the loss of you FiL. Glad your DH made those important 10 minutes.
DH is having an easier day having done 2 very long sections of the coastal path. We will all have a day out to Woolacombe unless DS wants to do his own thing.
Take care everyone and stay safe ?
Good morning from an overcast NE.
DH has a chemotherapy session this afternoon but BIL will not be taking him today as he is having investigations himself.
Last night was spent watching GD's school play, The Tempest, live streamed. I thought it was very well done as they are only year 6.
Condolences to you and your DH Scentia.
Good morning everyone from a grey and damp Northampton. Hoping it dries up as a friend and I are planning lunch in a local park followed by a forest health walk. And I have just put the bedding in the washing machine.
My condolences to Scentia and Grannygravy.
There will be a visit to the garden centre after this afternoon's walk, so I am hoping for a good browse round. Then poached smoked haddock for dinner tonight with new potatoes and peas.
Hope we all get to see a bit of sunshine ? today.
