Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Prince Andrew accuser Virginia Giuffre files civil lawsuit in US

Kevin Maguire

Prince Andrew will be sweating today after legal action was started in the US by a woman claiming she was trafficked and sexually abused.

Forget Harry and Meghan. Discussing what is the huge royal scandal on
@GMB
in a mo.

@RepublicStaff
Lots of questions for the royals tonight. Will Andrew continue to refuse cooperation on Epstein case? What happens if the civil action goes against him? Will the taxpayer be paying his legal fees? How far will the family go in protecting him?

P.S.

Got her name wrong, it’s Dupre or similar.

I’m thinking of an author, I think!

Calendargirl Tue 10-Aug-21 06:53:12

Prince Andrew to face a civil lawsuit in the USA over his relationship with Virginia Andrew’s, I think that’s her name.

Thanks Fanny.

Blossoming I can’t recall saying anything I have read in books about the royals is the truth.

Why do say with such certainty that Charles is greedy and selfish?

Norman Baker is a staunch republican, grany quotes him

FannyCornforth Mon 09-Aug-21 15:55:19

I’ve got it an audible maddy.
It is very good

maddyone Mon 09-Aug-21 13:46:52

That’s very interesting Blossoming. I’ll have a look for that book and download it to my kindle.

Blossoming Mon 09-Aug-21 13:46:06

Depends what you read Anniebach but from your opinions on Gransnet I suspect it’s not the same things as I read. I’m rapidly losing any respect I had the more I read.

Anniebach Mon 09-Aug-21 13:40:28

So what we read about the royal family is true ?

Blossoming Mon 09-Aug-21 11:31:53

I’m currently reading “And what do you do?” by Norman Baker. A fascinating read for anybody interested in the history of our current royals and how they became so wealthy and powerful. Their wealth and power has been obtained a lot more recently than you might imagine. Charles in particular doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Greedy and selfish, despite the public image he carefully cultivates.

Thank you Nams
Now I’ve just had a look on Wikipedia.
Her full name was Alexandrina Victoria, but her mother was Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (hope I’ve got that right!)

Namsnanny Mon 09-Aug-21 11:01:40

I always thought that Meghan was a derivative of Margaret, that eventually became used as a Christian name in of itself.

My middle name is Elizabeth.
I think it’s a fabulous name.
You can get so many diminutives of it. It’s my dog’s middle name too!

I was listening to an audiobook about Queen Victoria a few weeks ago, and apparently Victoria wasn’t really a name until she was called it. I’ll have to check the details

Im glad you mention this as I read that too FannyCornforth. Its such a staple now I didn't quite believe it.

One of my DGDs has the same name as a young member of the royal family. When this name was announced I texted my DGD to tell her her name had been pinched by royalty. She was not amused.
Three of my other GC and my niece share the same birthdays as the RF. We are very high born we are.

I went to BP a couple of years ago when they had the Victoria exhibition on. Great exhibition but the security staff were very jumpy ISTM.

Sparklefizz Sun 08-Aug-21 19:01:35

A part of Buckingham Palace was opened every summer to the public pre-Covid. I have been inside there myself. Maybe more of it would be opened up.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 08-Aug-21 18:18:48

I understood that when our Queen became Queen she had to move into Buckingham Palace. At the time she and her family lived in Clarence House. The Queen Mother eventually moved out of Buckingham Palace into Clarence House, where she stayed for the rest of her life. Queen Victoria and all her family lived in B. Palace and I think all monarchs after her lived there until the present day. I have read that Charles will stay at Clarence House. B. Palace can be used for State functions and putting up foreign dignitaries. Maybe some of it could be usd to display the enormous Royal Collection which allegedly is being ‘looked after’ for the nation. Being rather more culturally minded than his mother, perhaps Charles could suggest these sorts of things when he is King.

Blossoming Sun 08-Aug-21 17:15:02

I have the same name as a Princess. Not an English princess though ? I think you’re right about Buck House Callistemon.

Maybe Prince Charles won’t want to live in Buckingham Palace but want to stay where he is now. Definitely more comfortable. If so what would be done with this 184 year old house, refurbish it and open all to the public like the successful Versailles Palace which has nearly 10 million visitors a year @ £20 for each section visited or. ..

I didn't think anyone lived in Buckingham Palace except for a stopover after a function.

It's just the offices of State, where the Head of State carries out official duties and functions.

Anniebach Sun 08-Aug-21 14:00:21

Trisher. August ? Lucas ?

FannyCornforth Sun 08-Aug-21 12:56:50

Trisher William and Archie?

trisher Sun 08-Aug-21 12:35:16

My DS and DGS both had the names of RF members before their namesakes were born. I like to think they copied us!

Anniebach Sun 08-Aug-21 12:12:05

Charles likes Clarence House, the Queen has always got away from there when she could

Perhaps he will stay in Clarence House and open Buck House to the public throughout the year.
