Unfortunately my toaster has decided to give up the ghost, so plans for a cheese toastie went west ! I was looking on JL website and saw these -
Gorgeous - but the price !
It’ll be Argos for me unless I get the lotto up !

I'm just not very daring.

PaperMonster

Come on you Red Dwarf fans, it’s obviously a posh Talkie Toaster!! I actually love it! I would never spend that amount on a toaster but I really do like it!

I like it too, it's fun! but didn't like to say ?
Is there a matching kettle?

I wouldn't buy it, though, even if it was £50 because it wouldn't go with my kitchen.

Nothing posh about it, just expensive.

As for the shoes. I always reckon if a garment(including shoes) has to advertise who made it, then it is the antithesis of quality. Really good shoes and clothes, give their quality away by their cut and look, they do not need visible names and logos.

To my previous post, Oh well each to their own.

I do love to see, and laugh, at how the other half live. Money does not always equate with good taste.

We have a De Longhi 4-slice toaster, it does bagels and burger buns too. Really good, cost about £50 nowadays.

Infinity2 Mon 12-Jul-21 13:46:06

Thank you Mollygo, I must have missed seeing that one as I was dazzled by the one with the bean attachment. Am looking now as I’m suffering from cheese toastie deprivation.

Infinity2 for many years we had a Tefal toaster that you could boil or poach your breakfast egg at the same time. It was great, but it died last Thursday. After 2 days of DH mentioning how much gas it took to toast one s1ice of bread we got a Breville toaster on Saturday, on offer at Argos, for £19.99. Wide slots, takes a full slice of bread and toasts to perfection on 3.

Infinity2 Mon 12-Jul-21 09:09:32

I’ve looked on the Argos website and can only see their own make Cookworks that have the sort of toaster I want. Will give that one a miss I think so the search continues.
Noticed they sell another hideous toaster which has a sort of bubble attached that you stick beans in !
Who knew !
It looks like the prototype for Richard Branson’s spaceship ?

Shropshirelass Mon 12-Jul-21 08:45:37

Oh dear, that is awful, ugly and expensive- can’t imagine anyone wanting that even if it was only £30!!! Just shows that if you put a D & G label on it then it will sell. More money than sense.

I think I got mine from argos, but it was a few years ago. I went for one with long slots which is supposed to take 4 slices, it does, but you still have to turn the bread upside down as the slots aren't deep enough for a normal sized slice if you're toasting 4. This means you end up with striped toast, two lighter ends and a darker band in the middle.

DH bought our last toaster. He got the cheapest he could find. It's useless. Two very short slots. I'm working up to buying another one but am not a fan of designer labels. It's function over form for me. Any recommendations? I'd like longer slots but with the capacity to toast the odd bun or slice of sourdough.

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 23:27:43

I flatten hot cross buns and shove them in the toaster on a low setting.....they still come out as burnt offerings.

Infinity2 Sun 11-Jul-21 22:02:38

I really want one of those with two long slots that will take different sizes of bread. Something I can toast a hot cross bun in ( ever the optimist ! ).
If I buy a white one and get a packet of coloured permanent markers I could probably have a go at that D&G design. Maybe I could flog a few on eBay !

Callistemon Sun 11-Jul-21 21:10:17

I've got a new one, it's posh because it matches the new kettle.

Smug ? (not Smeg)

Infinity2 Sun 11-Jul-21 18:47:01

Lemongrove - surely you aren’t a …. a bit of a yob ?
Oh thank God - at least that makes two of us on here !
Next toaster will have to be from Argos as at least they’ll deliver in my locality.
I can’t use the grill on my cooker as it’s wired wrongly and turns the oven on whichever way I turn the knob. I’d had it three years before I noticed or I’d have sent it back to Currys ?

MissAdventure Sun 11-Jul-21 18:09:26

Mine is clogged up with burnt sweet potatoes.

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 17:37:17

Although...this chat about toasters has made me ashamed of our dingy old Argos one that burns everything in sight.

foxie48 Sun 11-Jul-21 17:31:46

Why on earth would anyone wear slippers having lunch in a restaurant? Johnny clearly lacks taste and refinement. I hope his choice of restaurant was better than his taste in sartorial elegance. Sorry I also dislike the Smeg toaster.

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 17:29:49

Actually I did tuck my empty chip bag under his wipers ( am well known for it.) Hope he won’t mind a slightly greasy window.

Infinity2 Sun 11-Jul-21 15:36:18

Glad to hear of your eco lifestyle Lady Maggiemaybe! I don’t blame that rich chappy for moving his car a bit nearer. He probably lives in mortal dread of someone like me tucking their used chip paper under one of his windscreen wipers ?

Maggiemaybe Sun 11-Jul-21 15:18:17

Infinity2

lemongrove - shame on you ! Implying that Lady Maggiemaybe would frequent such an establishment ! Everyone knows they have no parking outside for her Rolls Royce ?

Exactly, Infinity2. grin

Actually, D & G man ran outside (in his slippers) when the driver of the car by the restaurant window moved it, so that he could drive his own very posh car three feet forward to have it in his sight line. From the number plate we all learnt that his name is Johnny.

We’d left the Roller at the B & B, and travelled in by bus. I have a limited edition bus pass, don’t you know. grin

Platypus Sun 11-Jul-21 15:15:26

Oh hang on - I didn’t realise it was the Dolce & Gabbana branded one - I the exact same one but without the fancy painting- that paint isn’t going make the toast cook any better! That thing is Aud899 here !

Platypus Sun 11-Jul-21 15:08:57

Ummm I have one - but I’m in Australia and they’re not that expensive here Aud220 so about Gbp120 - I’m not sure why you guys are being charged so much - it’s actually the best toaster I’ve owned. I also have the kettle and it’s brilliant.
