The motto I’ve found most helpful to me in my life has been this -
Waste Not Fresh Tears Over Old Griefs.
( Euripides)
When I’m feeling sorry for myself and find my past mistakes and personal sorrows overwhelming me, this is what I say to myself to drown them out.
What is your personal motto that’s helped you in the tougher times of your life ?

Be kind - everyone you meet is struggling with something.
Walk a mile in someone else's shoes.

This too shall pass

The trouble is, sometimes it doesn’t…..

You are enough.

My dear sister’s favourite -
No good deed goes unpunished !

Every time she tried to help somebody out it always went wrong in some way ?

At the risk of lowering the mood - Life is hard then you die.

Do as you would be done by

I would echo this.

You live and learn.

Someone I worked for used to say "Get it out of your life". This could apply to anything - people, objects, a job ... anything that is causing you stress or upset. I try to do that.

I thought I was poor because I had no shoes, until I saw a man who had no feet.
There is always somebody worse off. Let's count our blessings .

Never take more from the planet that you can give back.

When someone is unnecessarily unpleasant I say to myself, "Maybe their dog just died." You never really know what someone else is going though.

When I get bogged down with things I ask myself if it will really matter in a hundred years' time....and usually it won't even matter next week.

"If it's meant for you it won't pass you by"

"What goes around comes around"

"Least said soonest mended" - This was my mum's favourite!

Class beats Ass every time!

This is definitely me - Take risks: If you win, you will be happy; if you lose, you will be wise.

I did a course of CBT just over a year ago and in one session we talked of the 5 by 5 rule. "If it's not going to matter in 5 years then don't spend more than 5 minutes being upset about it." I'm learning but still fall foul of this occasionally.

To gain respect show respect to others.

Love many, hate few and always paddle your own canoe.

^Or In French^…^pas de lieu Rhone que nous^…

Our family motto sounds quite profound in Latin;
'Bona Fide; Sine Fraude'
….

aonk Tue 13-Jul-21 14:28:22

Self last, others first.

Clawdy Tue 13-Jul-21 15:01:22

Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is dark.

"When you reach the end of your rope tie a knot in it and hang on". It's attributed to F D Roosevelt, don't know whether he actually said it. I like it because after all what else can you do?

nanaK54 Tue 13-Jul-21 15:17:22

Love will always triumph over hate

2020convert Tue 13-Jul-21 15:28:48

How people treat you is their problem but how you react is yours

Rarely do people do things because of you, they do things because of them

Yammy Tue 13-Jul-21 15:32:21

NO is a very small word but not easy to say.

maydonoz Tue 13-Jul-21 16:29:29

Never leave for tomorrow what you can do today
Or the lazy version
Never do today what you can leave for tomorrow

School motto 'Truth Shall Prevail'.
