I dream in colour also Marydoll
Good Morning Thursday 30th April 2026
About 4 years ago on GN I asked if any of you saw things as I do and there were some great replies. Now we have so many new folks on here I thought I would update the thread.
To begin, I see the year as an ellipse rather like an egg lying sideways January is at the top, April at the 9 o’clock position, June at 6 o’clock, September at 3 o’clock. Yes I am going anti-clockwise. I hope you get my drift.
I see the number 5 as being female and 6 male.
Many of you saw things in colour.
Over to you.
I dream in colour also Marydoll
When I close my eyes I see lots of tiny dots of different colours, like a form of pointillism. I think this is due to my visual impairment though.
Oh Maggiemaybe do not fret - when I said Margaret makes me think of pale blue, please know that it is a very pretty pale blue! Good News - Maggie is a very bright cherry red
One of my most vivid dreams was at a Funfair. The lights around the stalls were very bright almost fluorescent.
I also have dreamt about coming down some brown wooden stairs which were double, one set to the left and one to the right with a large stained glass window behind. I often see something similar in old films.
maggiemaybe is a pretty shade of dark pink.
Bluebelle if you said Monday to me I would just see a strip of colour, appropriate to that day. I do sometimes “see” the actual word spelled out too.
Oddly enough, Bluebelle, you come across as green!
Your name does, I mean! ?
I don't see things quite like that but I like a bit of numerology even though I'm not really a numbers person.
I passed my driving test in early August a few years back and when I got up that day I felt perfectly calm, as though everything was going to be all right.
The examiner wrote the date on my certificate as 7/8/9 and all felt right with the world. Days like that are rare.
sf101 I wish I could see a calendar so clearly. My weakness has always been numbers and an online test showed I have dyscalculia. Therefore, the future is a complete fog! I know today is Saturday but after that it’s just grey in my mind. Making arrangements, I gaze at my diary, double checking everything and still make mistakes.
A few years ago I kept imagining coastlines as seen from the air as in a plane, coastlines like the south of France and Portugal, often twinkling at night in the dark. I wanted to visit them but that feeling has gone now. Also when I lie back and listen to a composer like Vaughan Williams, I literally fly over wonderful scenery like a bird. It’s a wonderful experience.
Names I see as colours.
I see my name as black but my GN user name muse as a myriad of bright colours.
My daughter's is green and my son's purple. DH is bright orange.
When I close my eyes I see a blurred curtain of subdued hues.
I understand that everyone dreams but not everyone can recall them. I used to be able to but not since my 30s. I looked this up once to find that missing out on REM sleep could mean missing out on what I have dreamt. That answered my question. I wake up several times during the night. I hope my dreams are in colour.
Sadly no colours attached to names or days of the week for me. I see the year as a temperature chart I suspect, rising upwards until a plateau for August and then downhill. Perhaps that's why I hate Autumn!
This is making me think that I see things in a very bland way
Me too eviebeanie no names number or places in colours I don’t know if I dream in colour or not it doesn’t seem obvious to me I don’t see my dreams as colour or black and white just dreamy
Maybe you think of me as green as bluebells are found in green woods that would be the obvious connection bellanonna what about bluebellwould is she the same ?
When I think of the works I just see a world map boring eh and a clock as a clock if I say I ll meet you at 7 o’clock I don’t ‘see’ anything
One thing though sometimes at night when I shut my eyes they feel open I don’t mean I see anything they just physically feel open but if I touch them with my fingers they are definitely shut (see i m not all boringly normal)
“Of the world” not works sorry, edit button where are you
I see personal names as colours , and sometimes as edibles. Margaret has been stewed apples as long as I can remember. Marie, one of my favourite names is edible too , cream. Mary is milk. Betty is of course butter.
Well Maggiemaybe
DanniRae
I see first names in colour:
Jane is red
Margaret is pale blue
Samantha is green
When I saw this I thought it was all wrong. To me Jane is green, Margaret is orange, Samantha is yellow.
Then I realised I was thinking about specific people and the 'colour' of their personalities. Like you, maybe, my Margaret is very lively and full of fire and energy.
Oh, I feel so much happier as orange, cherry red and dark pink, such lovely colours. I do wish I could visualise things the way some of you do - how interesting it must be. I’m certain though that I do at least dream in colour.
When I think of left and right, I always have to visualise the same scenario. Which is standing outside my aunties as a 3 year old, mum saying the road uphill to the corner shop is a RIGHT turn, and the road going the other way downhill to our house is a LEFT turn.
Still now as a 65 year old woman this is the only way I can tell left and right- I have to pretend I’m standing outside my aunties as a little girl.
Wow!!! This is so fascinating . I don’t experience anything so interesting. I am intrigued.
Can any of your colour people tell me what my name Kate is represented by ? I do hope it’s lilac or purple, but definitely not? ?
Kate is a soft yellow to me. I hope this is ok for you?
BTW my own name - which is not Danni - is red.
3dognight now this I can relate to
I wear my watch on my right arm, don’t ask me why I always have since my first watch ( I m not left handed) it just feels right that way and when people ask me for right /left directions I always have to visualise my right hand with my watch on it to see which way to go
The colour and names I find more difficult to understand, if you meet someone named Lillian do you see the person themselves as the colour or does that colour just come into your mind when you hear the name Do you close your eyesor keep them open? is the colour just a splash? or do you see a picture of the person them self in that colour
I feel I'm missing out. No colours for me even in dreams, but I do agree with HOLYSTEERS about certain music, especially Vaughan Williams.
Perhaps a thread about dreams would be interesting. I can usually remember mine quite clearly but OH never remembers his although he does enjoy listening to me relate my more bizarre ones.
If you keep a notebook by the bed and note down whatever you can remember about your dreams, you'll start to remember them more.
Even writing 'I don't remember my dream' for a few mornings can alert your brain that you do want to remember.
I've never understood the idea of dreaming in black and white. Surely it's comparatively recent that humans would have understood the idea of viewing experiences in black & white, thanks to photography and films.
