Is it just me, or have you noticed that it’s a bit quiet around here of late?
Have we run out of stuff to talk about?
Feel free to talk about anything here…

Platypus Mon 09-Aug-21 14:35:03

I’m going to run with the boys wearing nail polish - well men really - ummm - my daughter’s boyfriend is 25 and wears black nail polish - I know I’m supposed to be ok with it but it makes me feel weird and I don’t know why!

young men appear to get drawn on all over their bodies too and shave all their body hair but wear it on their face

Ooh, I can't be doing with people who complain that the threads are boring or of little interest.

We are all responsible for providing the entertainment here so don't wait for someone else to start a scintillating thread - get on and do one yerself!

Well, that was me! And a lot of them are rather boring and of little interest (to me) maybe not to others.

I often start threads actually, but at the moment, cannot think of anything that might interest you all.

It’s been said before, but many familiar names no longer seem to post, maybe they have become ‘lurkers’?

BlueBelle Mon 09-Aug-21 14:58:18

Whenever I start a thread it usually dies so I must be a boring old fart

midgey Mon 09-Aug-21 15:06:02

Hmm BlueBelle that usually happens to my threads as well!

Oh god! First time we took DS swimming at our local leisure centre, he stood looking at a young man near him, covered in tattoos........
Mummy, why has that man scribbled all over himself with biro? I bet his Mummy is cross. grin

NotSpaghetti Mon 09-Aug-21 15:16:38

My posts seem to die too BlueBelle
I think my interests are a bit "niche".

Ok then, let's our little club all pop over to Mumsnet, come back again with 3 topics, then vote on what we want to discuss? Something nice and controversial to get our dander up! The good thing about Mumsnet is that you can be quite free with your replies and don't get the pearl clutchers that GN sometimes has. I had a right old ding dong with one of the 'my MiL is a pain in the arse threads'. Told her to remember what she had posted in 25 years time when she is the one getting the eye roll whenever she opens her mouth. i had a surprising number of replies agreeing with me. Anyway, mes enfants, bon chance et au revoir!

Platypus Mon 09-Aug-21 15:23:59

What is a pearl clutcher?

GillT57 Mon 09-Aug-21 15:28:14

outrage or dramatic protest, especially from a woman, caused by something the person perceives as vulgar, in bad taste, or morally wrong but that does not elicit a similarly strong reaction from most other people

My husband has just asked me why I don't use a fabric softener when I wash the towels. He thinks it makes them fluffier. Well perhaps it does but I think it makes them less absorbant. Also I wash the tea towels with them, and I really don't require highly scented tea towels.

That was totally random, but it's something to think about.

Another random observation - my bright green top is full of strands of hair. I think I’m going bald ?

I get criticised for starting too many threads

It wasn’t quiet in soop’s kitchen last night!

I don’t think that I pass the entrance criteria there.
I’m not sure if I’m caring or kindly enough

has anyone ever totted up which threads get the most posts

and i don't mean from just three or four posters repeating themselves

From my point of view, GN seems to have simply got too bad tempered for it to be the good-natured and pleasant “chat with friends” it used to be.
The same old, same old pro/anti Brexit/EU drums get banged- to no great effect; there are interminable threads about situations which were resolved somewhere around *page 2*; some “very strange” stories get spun - whether or not to take them at more than face value, can seem hardly worth the effort; MILs moan about their DILs and DILs moan about their MILs; somebody moans about their husband to an answering chorus of “LTB” ; there are hectoring threads which seem designed to question our intellect (the one about “levelling up” sounding downright accusatory) and there are those knocking different aspects of the Establishment- the government, the NHS , teachers or lawyers - and there are Games like there’s no tomorrow!
I did try with a thread of film titles “spoiled by one word” and there have been laudable attempts to raise a smile with topical or otherwise cartoons, but they too often seem to sink without trace.
We have had holiday periods in past years and , did everything grind to a halt then? I don’t think so.
I just think everybody sounds jaded , perhaps afraid to be shot down in flames by those who regard themselves as more knowledgeable or better-educated than others . Why bother ?
Is it surprising may “regulars” have voted with their feet and things “seem quiet” ?
