Spinster.

Makes me visualise a thin, grey-haired, timid, sad lady.

Very out dated for today’s hip young singletons.

Other words I dont like
Snog
Spinster
Belly
Passed as in passed away, why not just died!
Sh--t
Could go on forever

Moist being the top one
Cardi
Frock
Pants
Panties
Knickers...not sure what I would call them!
Afters

grannybuy Tue 10-Aug-21 11:54:26

Panties and mom.

razzmatazz Tue 10-Aug-21 12:00:25

Wow. Used for every reaction.

lizzypopbottle Tue 10-Aug-21 12:00:36

I dislike the word pop when followed by 'of colour' because it's so overused. I also dislike the word eclectic for the same reason.

Quaver22 Tue 10-Aug-21 12:02:43

Bum and belly. When I was very little my mum told me they were very rude words and I’ve never been comfortable saying them!
Palpable. It is such an overused word!

grannybuy Tue 10-Aug-21 12:04:14

Like all widows, I’ve had to tell many people in the last eight months that DH had died. Never have I used passed, or passed away. I appreciate that some people probably feel that it’s a more gentle term, but it doesn’t make me feel any better. I’m possibly somewhat pedantic.

Hate the word titties

Lin663 Tue 10-Aug-21 12:12:19

S is shit
M is meat
Slightly childish but there you go ?

hollysteers Tue 10-Aug-21 12:15:12

EMPOWERED! Blinking everywhere.
Thank you Meghan, we never knew.

Blossoming Tue 10-Aug-21 12:19:08

‘Reach out to’ instead of contact.

MaggsMcG Tue 10-Aug-21 12:21:43

I hate being addresses as " Hun" or "Babe" it's just to familiar when most of these people don't even know me. There's not many other words I don't like other than the over used swearing. I'm not a prude and I will use the F word on occasion but when it's every other word in general conversation when someone is speaking to me I definitely don't like it.

Granartisan Tue 10-Aug-21 12:22:35

I can't explain why but I don't like colourways!

hollysteers Tue 10-Aug-21 12:26:46

The F word should be reserved for special occasions.
Something like this said by Evelyn Waugh.

GillT57 Tue 10-Aug-21 12:34:24

I hate twee words like 'furbaby', hubby, hubster

Kiddies, titties, panties

When I bake a cake, my adult children take a bite, make a groaning noise and say 'oh it is so moist', just to see my reaction. grin

Toilet, crotch, pamper

Off to scratch my teeth.

Knackerednana Tue 10-Aug-21 12:35:38

Bear with, does it really take a lot to add "me" to make a complete sentence

Lizzie44 Tue 10-Aug-21 12:40:24

I dislike overuse of the word "sadly". In news reports it seems almost obligatory to use it before the word "died". "Many Covid patients have sadly died". I might speak sadly of someone's death but they didn't sadly die or sadly pass away.

grandtanteJE65 Tue 10-Aug-21 12:45:55

I dislike this fairly new trend of using initials instead of writing the words that offend.

I would naturally not use a word that I find offensive, but would try to find an inoffensive one or an expression I can live with.

We all know that vegans and vegetarians do not eat meat. If they dislike even thinking or writing the word, what is wrong with substituting animal products instead?

That way we would avoid a certain amount of confusion.

Alioop Tue 10-Aug-21 12:48:48

I hate panties too, sounds creepy
Another one for moist
Swimming 'trunks,'
Catarrh or phlegm
My friend uses Hun all the time and it bugs me. I can't remember the last time she called me by my Christian name.

grandtanteJE65 Tue 10-Aug-21 12:52:06

They are definately NOT knickers to any self-respecting girl!

I was taught as a child that knickers was as vulgar a word as lavatory. We went to the toilet, where we pulled down our underpants!

I think all likes and dislikes of words probably date back to what we were allowed to say as young children.

My mother would have had a fit if we had said bum or belly - they were repectively your bottom and your tummy when speaking to her.

MissAdventure Tue 10-Aug-21 12:57:54

Underpants are for boys, though.

Secondwind Tue 10-Aug-21 12:58:32

Pouch. I always think of something disgustingly soft, damp and squidgy

Petera Tue 10-Aug-21 13:02:42

MawBe

“Moist” makes me shudder.
And, entirely unconnectedly “panties” ?‍??‍??‍??‍?

But it's the most important quality of cake!

spottybook Tue 10-Aug-21 13:03:22

Diarrhea. A difficult word to spell and as a word it sums up a horrible word picture.

Vegans do not eat or use animal products.

Vegetarians eat some things stolen from the animals, such as the milk that the mother animals generate to feed their babies.
