Spinster.

Makes me visualise a thin, grey-haired, timid, sad lady.

Very out dated for today’s hip young singletons.

Hate the word ‘panties.’ To any self respecting girl they are knickers!

What's the s word and m word.

I’m guessing shit and meat.

Omasweetie Tue 10-Aug-21 10:50:14

Housewife !!

I much prefer Household Manager

Keryn64 Tue 10-Aug-21 10:50:24

I don’t like the word hate.
I don’t like parents telling their children (not kids) to shut up.
I don’t like it when people call other people stupid. I don’t mind when stupid refers to an action but not a person.

Gwenisgreat1 Tue 10-Aug-21 10:51:04

I do not like to be called Hun: Ducky; luv; daaling; or madam, or Gwendoline or Windoleen!!

I dislike any form of swearing.

It's unnecessary, and belongs in the gutter.

I absolutely agree with "LOL" always sounds inane and often follows some quite unfunny remark.

Panties hideously coy, what's wrong with knickers or even pants?

Kiddies for the same reason.

Tummy cute when children say it because it's quite babyish as an adult sound just that babyish.

"Bubbly" as in she's always bubbly.

Don't like lad, lass, hen, bird, chick

I don't really like euphemisms, I had a friend whose mother said when she first embarked on relationships with the opposite sex, "you need to keep your hand over your penny" "Oh for God sake" thought I "your mother's phraseology is just ridiculous"

I also don't like the phrase "when I fell for" instead of when I conceived or became pregnant.

Hollibobs, rellies, fur baby, rainbow bridge, like (when used every other word), commun-i-y (for community), cute.

Estrellita Tue 10-Aug-21 11:02:48

I agree with most of the comments, but I don't mind moist especially when referring to a cake! I didn't like 'you guys' at first, but am getting used to it now.

gran5up Tue 10-Aug-21 11:05:25

Many of our dislikes seem to be Americanisms: I agree about," guys" and "so" but my pet abominations are the "words" created by making a noun a verb, e.g. "partying", "hospitalisation"-in fact any "-isation"!

Foxyferret Tue 10-Aug-21 11:05:55

Awesome when used for something trivial like awesome shoes. So at the start of a sentence and I noticed how many footballers start the sentence with I mean. The c word, cannot stand it.

Jane Judge, my local voluntary organisation had a 40 year celebration in 2018 and screened Saturday Night Fever as a fundraiser with lots of local dignitaries attending. Like you I was a bit shocked by the language, I obviously didn't notice it when I saw it first time. I couldn't help wondering what the, mainly very elderly dignitaries thought. Just shows you though that recent films are not so different.

“Pop” used as a verb instead of the word “put”

pinkjj27 Tue 10-Aug-21 11:18:17

Fart my skin crawls just writing it.
Any swear word I am a bit of a prude don’t like anything crude
I hate the word, Ain’t it was deemed a swear word when I was little.
Hun (as used by everyone, as in “you ok Hun” )

My daughter nearly throws up if any one says the word moist

SooozedaFlooze Tue 10-Aug-21 11:21:54

S word is Shit and M is Meat

springishere Tue 10-Aug-21 11:27:50

Craw, as in "Sticks in my ......". Kids - what happened to all the children? The F word used as a noun, verb, adjective, adverb, as in Gogglebox. Like.

rowyn Tue 10-Aug-21 11:29:46

"gifts" used as a verb; e.g. he gifted me a necklace.
What is wrong with give/gave???

Belleringer Tue 10-Aug-21 11:32:10

Gobsmacked. Wherever did that come from, I think it is a ghastly word

Shortlegs Tue 10-Aug-21 11:34:08

Gobsmacked.

janywoo Tue 10-Aug-21 11:37:33

Signage . As in "Follow the Signage to the meeting room. "

Ethel27 Tue 10-Aug-21 11:38:34

People calling other people" my lovely "

Lettice Tue 10-Aug-21 11:38:46

Y'all. Hubby, and all those "furbaby" words. Many of the American imports where we have appropriate British words and phrases.

JadeOlivia Tue 10-Aug-21 11:38:55

Abortion, not for any ethical reason, just hate the sound of the word.
