Good Morning Everyone,
Its dry but with grey cloud here in brackley this morning.
Yesterday I received confirmation of a trip by coach a week this Saturday to London ,although price wise it had fallen , numbers wise it does not look as though many will go.
Today for me , small early shop ,and then stay in today.
Take Care,
Mick

Morning from a cloudy S Lanarkshire. Chaos in TV land here. Sky engineer came yesterday to install a new box which would (theoretically) upgrade my system. The result is I have no tv at all in my bedroom and the one in my garden room is refusing to ‘’recognise’ me.
It is all my fault for not explaining my needs properly and I am feeling a very old lady this morning. DD 4 is coming to check everything later and she is going to eat me!
I expect there is a way of fixing everything, I just feel too hopeless to do it.

In the scheme of things not important, and I send thoughts and prayers to everyone with real worries this day.?

What a worry dragonfly hope they find out what the problem is and your DiL is better soon

GrannySomerset Fri 13-Aug-21 08:23:48

Early start but need to be showered and dressed in case our sofa is returned early. Then DD and family arrive from Liverpool at lunch time for a 48 hour visit and a chance to celebrate her A level results with DGD1, so what passes for a busy morning.

Sympathy to Oldd and Ash and love the picture, Sar - lots of lovely plaiting. Chin up, Corner, soon be Monday and a chance to play at being Mr Toad in the new car. Glad you have Dollie to lift your spirits, Marydoll, she is obviously as bright as a button and a real delight.

Despite being a damp grey morning I am cheered by the prospect of seeing people I love so am in better spirits despite yet another load of laundry. Hope we all have a good enough day.

Aldom Fri 13-Aug-21 08:24:15

Alizarin A lovely photo of your beautiful garden. A peaceful haven.

baubles Fri 13-Aug-21 08:24:31

Good morning Mick, morning all from rainy South Lanarkshire.

Love that photo Sar, I could take a very similar one of my five girls (and one boy).

Poor Oldd, he’s going through the mill and you must be beside yourself Ash. What a worrying time for you too dragon.

So good that Dollie and her Dad are starting to pop in now Marydoll, good luck with your appointment later.

Bad luck corner, I hope you’ve managed to rearrange the visit.

DGD who’s birthday it was on Monday is coming later for a sleepover on her own. It’s become a tradition that the older ones come overnight then they and I have a lunch out somewhere the following day. Spare bed changing today in preparation.

As always I wish everyone a peaceful day with the odd flamingo thrown in. ???

GrannyGravy13 Fri 13-Aug-21 08:25:42

Morning Mick and all

Warm & grey here in S E Essex. It’s still full on here at Gravy Grange, we seem to have a never ending delivery epidemic due to DS & DiL, they are stocking up on everything they couldn’t buy or get sent out to Kenya. Our garage is full to the brim (it’s a very large garage!!) they are here until 23rd, we have joked that there will be no rooms left without boxes at this rate grin

Sorry to hear your DH is back in hospital Ashcombe

Beautiful photo Sar53

Worrying news about your DiL Dragonfly

Keep safe and well folks ?‍♀️?

Good morning from a sunny Black country.
Sorry to hear Olddudders is back in hospital let's hope they can sort him out soon?.
Shopping and housework today, friends coming this evening and we will go to the club.
Thoughts with missing posters and those feeling under par. Urmston did say she was taking a break.
Enjoy your day and may you all find some ?.

dragonfly46 Fri 13-Aug-21 08:29:14

Thank you Marydoll.

Good morning from a bright Durham. Finally got my car back yesterday and a bill under four figures - pleasant surprise. I’d felt very isolated without it.
Garden chaps coming this morning, then I’m off DD2 to baby sit youngest grandson (10 weeks) for the afternoon, then onto DD1 to collect other grandson and staying there as it’s ‘pizza night’.

Mixed reading this morning, so my thoughts are with those with pain or heartache. X

Grandmadinosaur Fri 13-Aug-21 08:40:42

Good morning from my sunny hotel room in Durham. I’m sitting having a drink while DH is getting ready to go down to breakfast.
What a lovely place this is although I (and my legs especially ) were surprised how hilly it is. Today we shall explore more we’d like to go to the castle. Later we have a reservation at a new Turkish restaurant that’s proving popular. The photo attached is our view from the room.
On the way up we stopped off at Richmond another delightful place new to us. Had a spot of lunch there, a little wonder and DH bought me some earrings as an anniversary present for next week. Both these places are ones we shall return for definate.
Sorry Ash to hear you and olddudders are still being kept apart.
Haven’t had chance to read all threads but sending thoughts to ones who need them.
Take care all .

Gingster Fri 13-Aug-21 08:46:46

Good morning from a cloudy Suffolk coast.
We stayed in the garden last night with our hot chocolate and rugs watching for the forecasted shooting stars. Perseid meteor shower. It was a clear night with hundreds of stars. The crescent moon was red and so low. We didn’t really see any shooters but it was lovely to sit out until midnight. Might try again tonight.

It’s my Ds2’s birthday today. 46 ! He’s my sunshine child! ?.

Today my dB is arriving for a couple of days. His son (my nephew) is an opera singer and is performing at an outdoor venue this evening, not far from here. Pirates of Penzance. My other brother was due to come but his wife is unwell. Really looking forward to it. ?.

Sorry to hear Olddudders back in hospital , Ash. Hope he’s back on track soon.

Lovely pic of the gd’s Sar. ?

Your patio looks a haven of peace Alizirin. ☘️??

Wishing you all a good day. ?

dragonfly46 Fri 13-Aug-21 08:51:01

Grandmadinosaur we stayed in that hotel in Durham!

Anniebach Fri 13-Aug-21 08:53:04

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Georgesgran Fri 13-Aug-21 08:58:55

Grandmadinosaur - Durham is allegedly built on the seven symbolic hills - so it catches out visitors with how steep some are. As you’re planning on seeing the Castle, be prepared when you get onto Palace Green and get your first proper look at the Cathedral - we’ve taken visitors and they’re dumbstruck by it.
Enjoy your day - looks a good one weather-wise. X

brook2704 Fri 13-Aug-21 09:01:38

Oooh I envy you Gingster, what a lovely thing to do to sit out under the stars until midnight - how beautiful that must be. I’ll have to think if we can do this here sometime when we get a clear night

Greyduster Fri 13-Aug-21 09:10:56

Grandmadinosaur Durham Cathedral is truly magnificent - the finest example of Norman architecture you’ll ever see. Be sure to see the friezes in the crypt too.

Good morning, Mick and all from breezy bright Carlisle. I hadn't realised it was Friday 13 until I saw the thread heading. Good job I'd planned a quiet day in. Too much activity this week so my body is in rebellion! It's all very frustrating not being able to do much when your mind knows you are really a fit and active outdoors person!
However, I'm not really suffering like Olddudders. I'm sorry to hear your news Ashcombe and hope he is soon on the mend and painfree.
Dollie makes me smile, Marydoll. What a lovely child she sounds and she must lift your spirits immensely.
I took the car out for exercise yesterday, out to the Solway salt marshes, a little known part of Cumbria thankfully unknown to mass tourism. There were quite a few tourists of the cycling and walking kind about because the road is part of the route round Cumbria. Barely a car about which was nice for me. I was lucky in that the tide was out, exposing the mud flats so that you could think it easy to walk across to Scotland which looks really close. You wouldn't be advised to try it though as there are quicksands.
Well, a pile of filing is looking at me in the office and a bottle of linseed oil is doing the same in the dining area, my table still
awaits its application. I'll wish everyone a good day and be off to do some useful work!

Dogsmakemesmile Fri 13-Aug-21 09:19:45

Good morning and best wishes to those with family worries. Pouring here in the Scottish Borders but sunshine forecast. Going to drag a bin bag around with me and sort out things for charity shop/recycling/bin. Listening to The Reunion on r4. Peter Tatchell contributing. I think he is a is a very brave man.
Hoping we will have a spin out somewhere in the car tomorrow. Cabin fever snapping at my heels. I am ashamed to write that as aware many have had to stay within their homes for months. Take care everyone.

Gelisajams Fri 13-Aug-21 09:29:17

Good morning from a breezy Morecambe Bay.
I don’t want to name so I don’t miss anyone out but quite a few worries this morning. Hope things turn a corner for so many.
No Scentia this morning hope things are ok.
Ekwa your trip out yesterday sounds like where I used to live at the end of Hadrian’s Wall. Your description brought a smile to my face and some happy memories.
I’m off to a circuits class at the gym this morning. I did set foot in the gym a few weeks ago but this will be my first class in eighteen months or so. I hope I’ve done enough home exercises to cope!
Take care everyone and stay safe ?

Grammaretto Fri 13-Aug-21 09:31:05

Good Morning everyone from the Scottish Borders.
I have spent so much time reading your engrossing messages that it has stopped raining and the sun is up!

Poor OldDudders I hope you find the cause and remedy soon.
Good luck today Marydoll
Fabulous photo Sar53 what a set! and the garden is gorgeous Alizarin

I am glad your coach trips are up and running Mick. A good way of getting around it seems to me.

I have never spent time in Durham - just seen it from the train or changed trains at the station. I must remedy that.

Dragonfly I hope your DiL feels better soon flowers and good wishes to all with worries and disappointments.
I also miss Urmston, EV, Cherry and Gillybob especially on a Friday and it's the 13th.
A fish supper and wine tonight is on the menu

Hello from Northampton where it is a dull old morning here. Nothing planned for today except a phone call from the doctor this afternoon to discuss my medication. I may also take the chance to ask about other matters if I am allowed.

The grass didn't get cut yesterday as when I went out to do it, it had been raining and was too wet. May do it later if dry. Had a lovely evening walk yesterday followed by a drink and nice meal at the pub, where I met an ex-neighbour and her family from over 40 years ago. Her son is now a strapping lad of well over 6ft; the last time I was him he must have been all of 8 years old. Think he is about the same age as my DS, now 42.

Wishing well to all not feeling 100% today.

MawBe Fri 13-Aug-21 09:38:56

Good morning all. Grey and cool here in N Bucks -ah well, it is August after all.
I am off to Norfolk for a few days to stay with D, SIL and GS.
Commiserations to Ashcombe’s DH. You must be feeling very conflicted
I understand being “torn”. The year I retired from teaching (and really what prompted me to pack it in) I was due to take a School trip to Germany with one other teacher and as it was half term there was NOBODY I could get to sub for me. DH was rushed into hospital in London on the Monday with a recurring biliary infection, D2 knocked off her bike in London on Tuesday, Gracie (dog) diagnosed with major eye problem on Wednesday and D1 at Selly Oak hospital with a suspected DVT on Thursday - she was 6 months pregnant. I was due to leave on the Friday.
It resolved itself though - Royal Free were prepared to keep DH in for 10 days until he was better and I was on my way home, D2 wasn’t injured just shaken and OK in her flat, kennels were happy to do the dog’s eye drops and D1 was fine. The trip could not have gone ahead with one teacher but I kept my fingers crossed, counting on the fact that if DH got worse I could fly back from Hamburg to London in not much longer than it would take me to drive from here.
Never again though. Family first in future for me and the job got kicked into touch.
Wishing him well and relief from his pain though.
As Marydoll says, life can be draining these days, a dear friend is nearing the end of their life, and I too am feeling bleak.
Wishing you all a pleasant day though and maybe the ☀️ will break through.

Sar53 Fri 13-Aug-21 09:42:27

Having now read through the previous posts I want to send my best wishes to Dragonfly and hope for good news for your daughter and to Ash for better news of Olddudders. Poor man he is going through the mill.

B9exchange Fri 13-Aug-21 09:57:42

Another cloudy day here in SW Herts. Some sad news, the father of a friend on the conference committee I am on died suddenly last night, totally unexpected, though he was 96. My friend is in shock, he is the the Chair, so I could end up having to manage the meeting this morning.

Ash it must seem as though everything is going backwards. I do wish OldUdders better very quickly, he is in the right place for a proper solution, but it must be dreadful to be apart right now.

So many worries on here today, I feel for all of you.

My sewing machine packed up, the foot control doesn't work and a new one doesn't make any difference. The repair man came out yesterday, he was very sniffy about the model, as it isn't a well known make, but it has served me well for 11 years and is otherwise in perfect condition. Seems something has gone on the circuit board where the treadle connects to it, so it will have to go to the sewing machine heaven in the sky unless someone wants one and doesn't use a foot control!

Not one to hang about, there is a new one arriving today. DH took pity on me and agreed to pay half the cost, but there will be less meals out on the holiday in France next month, if we ever get there!

Hoping the weekend brings improvements to those struggling, and some happy times all round.
