Restaurants - pet hates

My no.1 pet hate is when my meal arrives without a plate.
I ask for the slate, wooden platter or whatever to be returned to the kitchen and the food transferred to a plate.

What about you?

B9exchange Fri 13-Aug-21 15:58:19

Slates don't really worry me, I don't think they work if there is anything liquid on them, but I wouldn't ask for them to be changed. I hate having to order off an app, much happier talking to a human being, when I can ask questions, and even get answers!

MissChateline Fri 13-Aug-21 16:07:54

Ordering from an app. I would leave if I was required to do this. I require human contact. I hate been asked numerous times If everything is OK.,but I really don’t mind a slate or wooden platter and wouldn’t send it back for this.
I really don’t like the minuscule portions that sometimes arrive where you need a magnifying glass to find it.

Hmmmm. I was once served ice cream on a slate. It had obviously been recently washed and was very warm. Needless to say it turned into a nasty sticky mess on the table. We haven't returned to that place ?

I get cross when everything is bought out at 20 minute intervals.

The meal, but no cutlery. 20 minutes later, cutlery but no condiments, condiments but no side orders..

I'm more than happy to order from an app and pay by app as well. Can't abide waiting around for the bill.

Dont mind eating off Slate but really don't like wooden boards and would ask politely for a plate. If I'm being really picky I actually prefer to eat from white plates (which we do at home) but would never say anything if I'm eating out.

Always eat fish and chips from the paper.

Actually I think I'm just grateful that someone else has cooked

I had mango-based and yoghurt-based dressings placed in artful sweeps on a slate not long ago.
They would have been better in bowls (or ON my meal) so I could have actually enjoyed them.

We have waited so long for our meals in some restaurants that we were almost chewing the table mats.

Esspee Fri 13-Aug-21 16:45:13

Another pet hate is brioche buns. They are cake. Why oh why do they think we want cake with burgers?

Aveline Fri 13-Aug-21 16:46:31

Oh I don't know Esspee brioche buns go pretty well with some burgers.

Blossoming Fri 13-Aug-21 16:48:14

I would ask for a plate. I hate it when revolting coleslaw is added to a meal but is not specified on the menu.

Sarnia Fri 13-Aug-21 16:48:33

Children allowed to run amok and being noisy while their parents are on their phones or generally not bothering.

MissAdventure Fri 13-Aug-21 17:08:59

Waiters who ask if everything is ok with your meal, the second you've taken your first bite.

merlotgran Fri 13-Aug-21 17:11:11

A waiter who won’t leave you in peace. One is enough to ask if everything is OK with your meal.

Nannylovesshopping Fri 13-Aug-21 17:47:05

A supposedly hot dinner on a cold plate, a hanging offence in my opinion!

welbeck Fri 13-Aug-21 18:00:38

just that, pet in restaurant.

May7 Fri 13-Aug-21 18:08:11

I'm right there with you Espee need a proper floury bun/batch/barm with a burger

foxie48 Fri 13-Aug-21 18:09:13

Cold food when it's supposed to be hot, over fussy service and anything that is over cooked.

Savvy Fri 13-Aug-21 18:23:59

Not stating whether the desserts are veggie friendly or not. I'm protein intolerant so I really need to know if they contain anything that's meat, fish or eggs, and that includes gelatine, food colourants of insect origin and non milk fats. I know I'm being picky, but I don't want to end up in hospital.

I always think wood harbours germs. I was in a organic restaurant a few weeks ago and the drinks came with metal, reusable straws, most unhygienic I thought. I asked how they were washed and they said that they go through the dishwasher. I noticed this week no straws - much better!

grannyrebel7 Fri 13-Aug-21 18:43:02

I hate it when a meal is huge, especially when you are given a mountain of chips. I really don't know how people manage to eat so much. It's definitely not healthy.

Kim19 Fri 13-Aug-21 18:50:52

I always ask if small portions are available. Would not be happy in animal friendly restaurant other than guide dogs, of course.

BlueSky Fri 13-Aug-21 19:24:23

Restaurants are my pet hate! I now refuse to eat worse than at home with a frozen meal and pay ridiculous prices for it!

Jaxjacky Fri 13-Aug-21 19:29:43

Sarnia agree, out of control children and sometimes if outside both children and dogs. No problem with ordering on an app.

Mollygo Fri 13-Aug-21 19:31:41

Deconstructed anything! If I order e.g. Apple crumble I don’t expect 3 piles
apple, crumble and a scoop of icecream
