Some of you may have missed the thread started by our cherished friend, Phoenix, informing Gransnetters of her illness and the reason for her recent absence from GN. It has been suggested that a new thread is started, directing her friends to the original thread, where she let us know of her terminal diagnosis.

Sadly, Phoenix is no longer able to read your messages or PMs, but has said how she, her family and close friends have found comfort in the love and support, you have shown her.
This thread will try and keep you all updated, with news provided by a Gransnetter, who is in daily in contact with the family.
A heartbreaking time for us all.
Rest in peace Phoenix.
Thank you Marydoll and Maw for all you have done to keep us informed. Much appreciated.
*Phoenix *
RIP
You will be much missed Phoenix. Best wishes to MrP and family and friends

Oh my goodness, that interview. ??? What a trooper. How extraordinary to go through what Phoenix was going through and yet sound so…normal, as though nothing at all was wrong. I knew she’d lost her son, I didn’t realise she had no other children.
Has anyone contacted You & Yours to let them know? I’m pretty sure she’ll have left a mighty impression on them. ❤️
In case anyone wants to listen on BBC Sounds it was you and yours on 13 July. Lovely to actually hear Phoenix’s voice.
What a moving interview! I was surprised to hear that she hadn't got a west country accent, I always imagined her funny tales that way.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and messages about Phoenix Having to tell her friends on here the sad news, was a day, we were all dreading.
I raise my non alcoholic glass to Team Phoenix/The Doghouse Grans and affiliated members, who supported Phoenix since she first became ill in December. True and genuine friendship, is beyond any treasure. I have to admit that when I first came on GN all those years ago, I found Phoenix quite scary (and some of the others too!) I couldn't have got it more wrong!
At my age, I never considered nor expected to feel such affection for a group of people, whom I have never met. ( Apart from one, who lives near me). That is your wonderful legacy, Phoenix. Thank you.
My hearfelt thanks must go to MawB, who in the last few weeks became the link between us and the family and who carried that dreadful burden of telling us all yesterday morning and then posting the news on this thread.
Phoenix, you are at peace now.
Aw Marydoll you are very kind!
Yes, the Doghouse Grans proved a lifeline in more ways than one when a popular poster such as Phoenix and others were inexplicably consigned to outer darkness. I can only think that her quirky SOH somehow went over certain heads . But that is in the past and (perhaps ironically) resulted in more friendship and joy than anyone could have anticipated.
That is, for me, Phoenix’s legacy.
That for me is “the spirit of Gransnet”.
Such sad news, she will be missed by so many, even though they never met her in real life. Condolences to her family. Thanks to Maw and Marydoll for keeping us updated.
Very sad news; thinking of her family and friends. RIP Phoenix.
Marydoll and Maw lovely posts. I’m sure your support and companionship (and that of the rest of the Doghouse Grans) meant so much to Phoenix and helped her through a dreadful time. I’m pleased she kept her humour to the end. A truly lovely person.

I expect Minnie and Oliver Sprout are pretty bereft
. Miss you, Phoenix x
That’s a sad, but lovely picture Lisagran
Hello everyone
My sincere condolences to all of the dear friends of pheonix here.
I only knew Pheonix very briefly.
My own abiding memory will be that her mum went out with the legendary Jim Dale. I asked pheonix if her mother was very beautiful, and she replied ‘yes, she was rather’.
I know that pheonix was rather beautiful too, inside and out.
So, friends of Pheonix, you are in my thoughts, especially Mary and Karen.
You really are a lovely lot.
♥️
I always sat down to read Phoenix's posts with a big grin on my face ? and a sneaky sympathy for the well- meaning MrP who always tried his best!
The affection between them shone through every anectdote ?
How we will miss dear Phoenix. She coped with life's ups and downs in a marvellous way and has taught us all to 'keep our pecker up' whatever happens. I'm sure Mr P will get lots of support from the village and from knowing how Rachel was loved by so many.
Is it just me, I’ve listened to the podcast up to and beyond 30 minutes but can’t find where Phoenix’s contribution is? Anyone can help me please?
It`s about 25 to 30 minutes into the programme, about 5 people on before Rachel.
Lisagran, what a sad, but lovely, picture.
IT will be a wonderful epitaph for Rachel’s friends and family to keep as a reminder of her positivity and optimism.
It is exactly 28.30. It is well worth listening to and it describes phoenix to a T- straightforward, no-nonsense, that is how her cards were dealt and she has had to get on with it. I could not have done it half as eloquently as she did. I would have been sitting in a corner crying. She was brave for so long and funny with it RIP.
What a sweet photo of Minnie and Oliver Sprout. I take it Oliver Sprout is the tabby?
The existence of the Doghouse grans passed me by but I am so glad Phoenix had their support at such a dreadful time for her.
rip …..?
Fly high Phoenix. Thank you netters all for the updates.
Was it a coincidence that I was thinking about this and chose to listen to Pata Pata yesterday morning.
SueDonim it worked both ways- she kept us laughing almost until the end and she knew we were there for her also although we all lived so far away we could not assist physically but were there for her.
The cats must be bereft now that mum is no longer at home.

Yes, Oliver Sprout is the tabby
Yes Oliver Sprout is the tabby alongside Minnie SueDonim. Ever present with us in Team Phoenix. I hope they can bring some comfort to Mr P now. ❤️ One abiding memory was helping Rachel choose just the right wig. What do you all think of this one, cheap as chips on Amazon too. I will ask my lovely hairdresser to snip it here and there a bit…..Rachel’s strength of, no nonsense character and wicked sense of humour was unfailing each and every day. What an amazing, inspirational woman to have as a friend. One of Rachel’s legacies is the strong bond formed by the 8 of us left in Team Phoenix, cherished friends.
Hope you find a decent Sancerre up there Rachel. ❤️
