Some of you may have missed the thread started by our cherished friend, Phoenix, informing Gransnetters of her illness and the reason for her recent absence from GN. It has been suggested that a new thread is started, directing her friends to the original thread, where she let us know of her terminal diagnosis.

Sadly, Phoenix is no longer able to read your messages or PMs, but has said how she, her family and close friends have found comfort in the love and support, you have shown her.

This thread will try and keep you all updated, with news provided by a Gransnetter, who is in daily in contact with the family.

A heartbreaking time for us all.

Merlotgran thank you so much- I listened to the clip and she was funny, articulate, down to earth as she has been the time I have "known" her and especially since diagnosed and of course the last few weeks and months.

I've only just discovered this thread. What sad news. I can't remember a time on GN without Phoenix she will be sorely missed.

Condolences to her husband, who she often mentioned, and to the rest of her family and friends.

I’ll never look at my montbritia again without thinking of Phoenix.
Id never had montbretia before and wondered if id loose them if I moved them.
Her answer was loose them!!! even if you boiled them you couldn’t kill them
Still gives me a chuckle. ?

annodomini Wed 18-Aug-21 16:40:18

Thank you merlot. I often hear You and Yours but don't really listen if you see what I mean, but I don't think I had the radio on that day. What an inspiring interview. She sounded just like I would have expected.

BlueBelle Wed 18-Aug-21 16:38:52

Thanks merlotgran I hadn’t heard that before
What a dear lady

FannyCornforth Wed 18-Aug-21 16:27:22

Rest in peace wonderful, brave pheonix flowers

Squiffy Wed 18-Aug-21 16:21:35

Merlot Thank you for the link, I hadn’t been able to track down the interview for some reason. Rachel really was something else, wasn’t she? Her take on dealing with her prognosis was incredible. It feels impossible to think that she was still working two days a week in mid-July.

The Phoenix we knew and loved shines through.

How wonderful to actually hear her voice.

Thanks for the link Merlot. That was the Phoenix we all knew and loved so well, meeting the biggest adversity of her life with such positivity and humour. So hard to believe that was only a little over a month ago sad

MiniMoon Wed 18-Aug-21 15:55:10

Phoenix had a great sense of humour, and brought much joy to this site. I will miss the tales of Oliver Sprout and friends.

RIP Phoenix

Rest in Peace Phoenix . Sending heartfelt condolences from me to all who knew and loved her whether virtually or in real life. Such sad news, she will be missed by many flowers .

annodomini Wed 18-Aug-21 15:54:13

I've just come home to the news we had expected but feared. Phoenix, you brought good cheer to us on line with tales of your cats and your own experiences. We shared the ups and downs you met with your own indomitable humour. May the garden you have planned, but knew you'd never see, grow to be a fitting memorial to a very special person.

Greyduster Wed 18-Aug-21 15:44:29

Bless you Phoenix; you brightened our lives for too short a time. RIP.

V3ra Wed 18-Aug-21 15:44:12
