Good morning from yet another overcast day in E Kent.
Our sofas arrived at midday yesterday; they are identical, but the sitting room seems empty as they replace a 2 and a 3-seater..
I’m going out to lunch with two friends, one of whom calls me ”the Tart” as I keep her supplied with Bakewell tarts!
Not a lot else today.
Keeping Marydoll, and any other close friend of Phoenix in my heart - they must miss her dreadfully.
Hope that al GraMmingos have a gentle day, filled with small pleasures. ???☀️??

Ashcombe Thu 19-Aug-21 06:17:42

Good morning, everyone. Mick - as the dawn breaks later, you seem to rise earlier! Another overcast day in Torbay.

It seems inappropriate to write anything lighthearted today with the sad news about phoenix. Thank you for the radio link, merlotgran, which was so moving to hear.

Wishing peace to everyone who is suffering with worries of any kind today. ?

Nortsat Thu 19-Aug-21 06:26:15

Good morning Mick and the GM team, from east London.

Thinking of Phoenix today.
I agree Ash it was lovely to hear her voice, talking so positively and movingly about her situation.

Wishing everyone a pleasant day.

Beechnut Thu 19-Aug-21 06:46:49

Good Morning everyone from Severnside. Plenty of cloud up there.
From my bedroom window I can see a lovely sight of half a dozen or so hot air balloons rising and falling in the sky.

Sad news yesterday and my thoughts to all concerned ?

monk08 Thu 19-Aug-21 07:07:13

Good morning from a cloudy Black country.
Another who agrees with Ash also found her radio talk very moving.
Wishing everyone a peaceful day?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 19-Aug-21 07:08:26

Morning Mick and all

What a sad time for GN having lost one of its shining stars ?? Phoenix. ??

Gravy Grange is still full, eldest AC and wife are now out of quarantine so they have a busy few days.

Keep safe and well folks ?‍♀️?

brook2704 Thu 19-Aug-21 07:13:45

Good morning everyone from Cambridge where it’s a bit cloudy with some showers forecast. I’m off out with DGSs today so another busy day ahead

Thank you for the link to the radio interview yesterday merlotgran I listened to brave phoenix being so positive about her situation

Thinking of everyone feeling sadness today and hope the day is kind. Take care all whatever the day brings ?

baubles Thu 19-Aug-21 07:14:15

Good morning Mick, morning all from cloudy South Lanarkshire.

It’ll take a little while to adjust to the new look of your sitting room gm, your sofas are lovely.

Childminding day for us. Gymnastics class for the four year old resumes after the summer break, then we’ll take a walk along the front and sit somewhere to have our picnic.

Thinking of Phoenix’s family and all of her friends who are grieving today.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day.

muse Thu 19-Aug-21 07:22:43

Good morning Mick and all Morningstars.
Grey damp start in mid Cornwall.

They were perfect words from Joyce Grenfell that MawBe posted yesterday. Thank you. ?for Phoenix’s family.

The result of my Mya’s scan at the pet hospital yesterday was a positive one. Her spleen is perfectly healthy and the vet explained what had happened to make my vet think she had a problem. I shall take her for an extra long walk today.

Have a safe ? day all. I’ll pop back this evening to read everyone’s post.

Grandmajean Thu 19-Aug-21 07:25:02

Good morning from Cheshire.
I listened to the voice of Phoenix yesterday too. I didn't know her as a Gransnetter but she was clearly much loved.
We really should "seize the day "

NannyJan53 Thu 19-Aug-21 07:25:27

Good morning from a cloudy Black Country. I do see blue sky appearing though!

New sofa and chair being delivered today.

I too listened to the radio link, and was so moved by how positive she spoke

Thinking of Phoenix's DH, family and friends, and hoping they are receiving some comfort from the outpouring of love on GN flowers

Marydoll Thu 19-Aug-21 07:28:02

Good morning all from a cloudy and cool Glasgow, it certainly matches my mood.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and messages about Phoenix yesterday, Having to tell her friends on here, was a day, we were all dreading.

I will spend my day pottering in the garden, which I think is appropriate, considering how much Phoenix loved her garden.
However, first thing, I will have to go out and search for a new hose attachment. Somehow, Mr MDoll, managed to destroy it yesterday! ?

Wishing you all a gentle and peaceful day.

harrigran Thu 19-Aug-21 07:33:02

Good morning from an overcast NE, so dull I thought it was much earlier than 7am.
DH's blood test showed his platelet levels had risen and the chemotherapy went ahead yesterday.
My friend rang yesterday to say that she had cancelled her holiday in Scotland, her DH had developed sciatica and was unable to walk so the long journey was out of the question.
She spent a while telling me about her meal out, in my favourite restaurant, with an ex work colleague. Thanks for that, I hadn't been there since December 2019.
Grocery delivery this morning and one from John Lewis, birthday present for GD.
Look after yourselves.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 19-Aug-21 07:36:28

Good morning. It’s a grey one here.

Thank you for all your good wishes for our anniversary yesterday. We had a lovely day including trying a new restaurant from which we waddled out but the food was rather delicious.
Thinking of Phoenix and her family. Life is so precious and a reminder to live it to the full and make the most of each day. ?

Jaxjacky Thu 19-Aug-21 07:39:52

Good morning from an overcast S Hants. Good news Harrigran and lovely sofas gm.
A voluntary drive and washing today. I picked and froze blackberries yesterday, first tomato picked from the greenhouse.
Have a gentle day all.

Susan56 Thu 19-Aug-21 07:46:44

Good morning from Shropshire.

So glad that your DH’s chemo can go ahead harrigran.

Lovely sofas mattie. They look so comfortable.

We are looking after the children again today.Yesterday was exhausting as we took them into town and then the park.As H went back in the pushchair happily I decided to walk home.Big mistake!I walked 14000 steps yesterday and feeling it today.

Diabetic eye screening this afternoon.

Thinking of maw,Marydoll,Charley and phoenix’s family and friends?

MawBe Thu 19-Aug-21 07:46:46

Good morning all from grey N Bucks.
Yesterday was a sad day for all of us on GN, but mindful of those lovely lines
” Weep if you must, parting is hell
But life goes on, so sing as well”
I need to get up and get on!
I sympathise Harrigran, it can be hard to maintain a polite smile when somebody regales you with an outing you haven’t had in I don’t know how long. Well done for not letting it show, I’d have been seething and not just inwardly.
Rosie and I will have a walk up to the visiting PO van this morning where the lady always has a treat ready for her, then I need to chase up two pictures I was having framed which should have been ready weeks ago.
All my friends seem to be away this week sad so maybe a solitary coffee and a cheeky iced bun at Waitrose might feature too.
Housework? Might give that a miss!
Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Oldbutstilluseful Thu 19-Aug-21 07:50:39

Good morning from another dull day in North Hampshire. I also listened to Phoenix’s broadcast, such an special person and a wonderful wordsmith. I’m thinking of her family and her GN friends who carried the burden of knowledge. I hope knowing how much you meant to her brings some comfort ?

kittylester Thu 19-Aug-21 07:51:45

Morning all from a dull North Leicestershire. Feeling sad today as I think a lot of us are.

We have had Bertie overnight and this morning we are going to indoor crazy gold. Then a Sainsbury delivery this afternoon.

This evening we have 'neighbours drinks' which are an occasional event carried on since the 'clap for carers'. We have gradually moved on from sitting outside having brought our own bottle and glasses to inside and the hosts providing the drinks and bowls of crisps.

ginny Thu 19-Aug-21 07:58:42

Good morning. As Maw says N. Bucks is grey but hopefully there will be some odd sunny spells.
Local friends and family all seem to be away on holiday so I am taking myself out for an outing and lunch.
Hope everyone can find a smile within their day.

NanKate Thu 19-Aug-21 08:03:10

Morning Mick and All.

A cloudy calm day in South Bucks.

You know how to party Kitty ? Do you remember those awful bowls of Twiglets we used to eat ? I like chilli crisps now.

Lovely to hear Phoenix yesterday with her positive take on life.

Going to see an old friend today for coffee and swap the happenings in our lives. Friends are so important and need to be nurtured.

Grandmabatty Thu 19-Aug-21 08:04:38

Good morning all. Polmont is very cloudy with the kind of clouds that usually mean rain.
Phoenix will be sorely missed by many as a contributor to this site but by many as a friend. I hope her friends and family can take some comfort from the genuine outpouring of love and support.
Yesterday I visited mum and, as expected, she wanted to critique her birthday meal. I've decided that she is never happier than when she's moaning so I let her get on with it and nodded in the right places. Then I was at a friend's house for coffee and blueberry muffins. The afternoon I pottered about the house and took the opportunity to hang washing out as it was blowy and sunny. Dd sent a video of dgs saying something over and over and she couldn't make out what it was. Grandma got it in minutes! A song from the film Madagascar called 'I like to move it, move it.' I'm assuming he's heard it at his other grandads house. He was really funny.
Today is a house day for me. Hoorah! I enjoy looking forward to doing nothing much. I'll do a bit of weeding if the rain stays away, and ironing. Then I have a cross stitch I want to finish so a quiet day ahead. Chicken curry again for tea. Have a good day all.

Greyduster Thu 19-Aug-21 08:06:41

Good morning Michael and all GNs. Overcast in South Yorkshire, both in mood and weather today. So much sadness around.
We are supposed to be going out today but plans for a walk have become weather dependent so we may just get lunch somewhere instead. DD and her menfolk are on their travels and DS has asked for a FaceTime this evening so something to look forward to.
Have the best day you can folks.

Sar53 Thu 19-Aug-21 08:23:33

Good morning from a grey, gloomy day here in Essex by the sea.

Food shopping this morning and hopefully finish my current cross stitch this afternoon.

My thoughts are with Phoenix's family and to all the grans who were close to her.

Have the best Thursday you can xxx
