I apologise if I am seen to be grumpy but where did Morningstars come from?
Is it a political reference or some other in-joke like Grammingoes I am not party to? Harrumph.
Good Morning Thursday 30th April 2026
Good Morning Everyone,
A dry but cloudy start this morning, signs that the days are getting shorter as to daylight.
Today , a quiet day in after a shop , and watch TV , I have noticed when out more people are about , but with hidden dangers still about .
Another day trip beckons tomorrow , more later on that .
Take Care,
Mick

I thought the Morning Star was a political newspaper. No politics on this thread please!
Maw,
I do believe it’s a mis-type so it will no doubt be explained. As for the flamingoes, they have become a Good Morning symbol of happiness and hope after one poster mentioned how seeing one somewhere (beach towel? garden centre? suddenly they’re everywhere) had cheered her up.
Here’s one from a florist’s in North Norfolk.
No in~joke or political reference MawBe. My friendly Morningsters is a word I’ve used for a long time. My iPhone or my big index finger gives me an a for an e. My apologies for offending and for not checking.
Must do preview in future and keep to Morningsters .
Really?
It sounds a bit in-jokey and cliquey to me.
I’m sure Mick has never referred to them.
OK if I ignore?
Yippee Urms is back!!! We have missed you asking everyone about the price if their house..l ?
Hola Urms glad you are ok and good to see you posting again. Looking forward to vicariously enjoying Malaga via your posts before you return home to entertain us from sunny ( sometimes ?) Manchester.
My sympathy to oops, Ash and gM and I hope their anxieties are relieved today. A can’t make its mind up morning weather wise, and I feel very lacklustre, but need to summon up the energy to do the supermarket shop, ditched for the chance to meet some WI friends yesterday while the carer was here. A social couple of hours worked miracles and I was much nicer for it, but the kitchen resembles Mother Hubbard’s cupboard so I must make myself deal with it.
Still, good news about Iris and Dollie, so definitely the odd flamingo in sight. Not sure about Morningstars but doubtless all will be revealed.
I believe the flamingo was found, unexpectedly, in some Lego, by Iris gM? some time ago and became adopted as as a symbol of happiness, sort of. May have that totally wrong, so not cliquey Maw, just a ‘thing’ on Micksgood morning thread.

Absolutely, re flamingos. Not started by me, BTW. And Iris is very puzzled when I mention it as she has completely forgotten her comment about the “random flamingo”! ???????
Maw, just a ‘thing’ on Micksgood morning thread
Thank you Jaxjacky - presumably a relatively new “thing” then?
As I recall way back, the GM thread was started by Mick as a friendly and simple “ Good Morning”, the weather in your own part of the world /country to give an overall picture, plus a brief outline of your plans for the day, or anything on your mind. He brought it with him from the Saga site and it has always been a friendly and uncontentious thread so I had better shut up and stop being contentious!
Sorry Mick
Good morning all from sunny Lancashire. The swing bridge has been busy this morning, quite a few boats going out. We had a nasty incident last night, Mr. B. went out to put the recycling bins at the end of the drive and next door’s dog charged into our front garden and bit him on the arm! It’s a noisy yappy nuisance at the best of times, but this was awful. It was snarling and growling and really trying to hurt. The neighbour rushed over and dragged it off and apologised. Fortunately it didn’t break the skin, but there are nasty bruises. It has shaken me, it runs at the window and kicks off every time we go out in the garden or walk past their house and I have been afraid of something like this.
Have a good day all, I may not be around for a while.
I find the GM thread quite overwhelming sometimes, Mawbe. I remember the posts in the early days being quite straightforward too.
It is warmish in North Leicestershire. DH has gone to the gym and our cleaner is here for the first time in 6 weeks. I'm off shopping- out of her way.
Good morning, late as always, from grey and dismal Anglesey.
Lovely to welcome the return of Urms especially with a much needed mention of sunshine from Malaga.
I’m afraid I was the flamingo culprit Maw, grandMattie had been posting about her brave little granddaughter, Iris, going through so many horrid operations throughout her young life so far and wearing a cage on her leg.
One morning, some months ago she mentioned that Iris had received a box of Lego which contained a random pink flamingo which seemed to delight Iris. I was so impressed that a little girl going through such pain and suffering could take delight in a small thing.
I mentioned it as a shining example to all of us that even in times of adversity we could hopefully delight in a ‘random pink flamingo’.
Sorry if anyone got the impression that this was in any way cliquey. Not my intention to offend in any way.
I certainly wouldn’t want to spoil this lovely supportive and friendly thread.
You absolutely haven’t, LauraNorder!
If you think about it, any long-standing group of close friends starts off simply and, as the relationship develops, becomes delightfully more complex as we get to know more about each other’s lives. There will then inevitably be ‘short cuts’ coming into play, whether those are remembered shared anecdotes or phrases enjoyed by people with the same sense of humour.
That’s what’s happened here, I reckon, but it’s always such a welcoming, non-judgmental place to start the day.
I rarely post on this thread (usually getting my head bitten off elsewhere,) but always read, mainly because I have nothing much to report at fhe moment.

Whoops! Talking of mis-types....
I was trying to write that today, for example, I have literally nothing I absolutely have to do apart from post a birthday card. And meet the challenge of finding a post box where the last collection is after 9am.
Good morning from an autumnal north of Scotland. Looks as if it is going to be a beautiful if cool day.
Hola Urms. Looking forward to the Spanish weather and food - hearing about it is a temptation to jump on a plane.
Sorry to hear about cancelled visits. The anticipation after this last year is high only to be disappointed. I should hope postponed rather than cancelled.
Gm Hope your son is being well looked after.
So many posts to mention, I am wishing you and yours all well or at least better.
Off to do some weeding.
Flamingos and Morningstars. Well I guess these could be construed as cliquey.
What puzzles me, when I write, are all the references to the previous day's posts.
I can barely keep up with todays' antics so excuse me if I miss some most people out.
I love to hear all your news.

Thanks a bunch Sally12 - this was a friendly thread but your contribution leaves a sour taste
What a nasty comment Sally12 I find everyone here so friendly, and consider that no-one here thinks they "run the show"!
Blossoming I think if it were me, I would report that dog. It could be a child next time! Take photo's of the bruises.
That post is unnecessary, untrue and I have reported it Sally.
Good morning Mick and all from Carlisle. It started off beautifully sunny but has now clouded over as forecast. I'm thinking of nipping out into the garden shortly in case it rains later.
The delivery men are having a hard time on the estate this week. Routes they have got used to are currently blocked so to get to me they need to take a twizzly route round. Which the unfortunate Tesco delivery man failed to find just now and so had to march my boxes several yards up the road from the blocked end. The guys arrived on Monday and partly blocked the road while they re-aligned a pavement then on Wednesday they dug a deep hole right in the middle. It appears to be something to do with the drains infrastructure. I'm a bit concerned, in a weeks time furniture is arriving after a long delay. I'm quite sure those men won't be toting wardrobes and beds for yards up the road!
I hope your DS is soon sorted, grandMattie, what a grim way to spend a night. And you too, Ashcombe, a speedy recovery before your trip.
Buenos to Urmstongran, lucky you being in Malaga and avoiding the disappointing August weather here in the UK. I haven't been around long but did like to read your posts.
The best of days to all and don't overdo anything!
I have also reported. This has always been a supportive thread.
I feel I have set a bad example, by posting my indulgent novellas on what used to be a very brief thread.
Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
It's an outlet for my failed desire to be a published author and Mills and Boon don't seem to like my work! ??
good morning from a rather grey north yorks to you all.
Not having a great day, poor night and my back is very painful and cannot bend or do much today. My plans to do a bit in the little garden have had to be dropped and am just hobbling about feeling rather frustrated as cant get on with much at all, so am glad to have gransnet to read how you are all doing .I am going to be listening to the radio (as the Bilsdale aerial is still off after the fire) so looking forward to listening to Gardeners question time. Hope things improve over the weekend and that we all get some decent weather to enjoy.
