Flattered or annoyed

I will often compliment ladies on their clothes, how sweet their dog is and on how well mannered their children are. I work in an art gallery and meets lots of people every day and they are always delighted when I comment especially parents of young children when I mention how well mannered the children are.

If I’m in a clothes shop trying something on & I see someone trying something on & looking in the mirror I will tell them if I think they look lovely in it . It is nice to compliment someone & a stranger compliments me It makes my day a bit brighter

A couple of years ago I was on holiday and went down to dinner wearing a flared white dress with red and black roses on it and a white shawl. A lady stopped me and said ‘ I just wanted to say how beautiful you look’ It made my day!

I often compliment random strangers! I also compliment anyone whose style I admire. I don't struggle to do it, but I have rarely had it happen to me so either my style is very bad or it's something people struggle to do.

I got stopped in the town a few years ago by a fashion student who asked to take a photo of me as she liked what I was wearing. I was really chuffed.

I would be flattered too. It has happened occasionally, but not often.

A few years ago, in a small town not far from where I live, a lady stopped me and complimented me on my hair! I was so pleased and surprised!
Later that day when taking my gd to a dance class - who did I bump into? Yes, the lady from earlier in the day! She was child-minding, as I was, but told me that she didn’t live locally, she was just visiting ?
Ever since then I have delivered many compliments because I remember how delighted I felt that day!!

One day when we came out of the second lockdown I was in a neighbouring village wearing a new pair of linen culottes. A lady rushed over to me and said how much she liked them so I gave her the maker’s address. It made me very happy and was such a relief after our previous isolation.

Flattered, we should compliment others more. I do if I like something someone is wearing and am always rewarded with a smile and a chat.

I'm a UK resident and I'm considering going to Canada when they open their borders to tourists on 7th September, fingers crossed.

I'm ok with the PCR test and uploading details of my covid vaccinations, but the Canadian website says that everyone visiting the country needs a 'quarantine plan', and try as I might, I can't find any details as to what would be acceptable if/when asked by border control. Would saying I'd stay in a normal hotel be ok? Any information would be very welcome.

The nicest approach I had was years ago, and not about my clothes. I was 39, 8 months pregnant, and feeling more like 93. A young woman recognised me, and said that I ‘hadn’t changed a bit.’ She had been my Office Girl 16 years previously! Suddenly I felt much younger and happier!

When I used my senior pass for the first time, the chap on the barrier said “What are you doing with your mother’s card?”
That was nice to hear!

I gladly accept a compliment and have given then too,l even asked a lady where she got her quilted jacket from as it was just what l was looking for!

I was in the car park, pre lockdown, minding my own business, when an elderly lady passed me. She shouted out how much she loved my coat. At first I was embarrassed but then I saw the friendly smile as she waved goodbye, I relaxed. It felt very good that not only had someone noticed me (not normal these days) but liked what I was wearing.

I took it as a compliment which are very few and far between these days and every needs one now and again don't they?

It’s nice to give and receive compliments and I do both. Hasn’t happened to me for a long time now but remember how pleased I was.
A random compliment to a stranger can make their day.

We were en route home after a few days away & stopped for lunch in a Cotswold pub. I was wearing a super-comfy dress, ideal for travelling in. A lady said how much she liked it and had been admiring it whilst sitting opposite me. I was very flattered and it made me smile as I told her when she asked where I got it...£18 in Primark last year!! I do love it, it's a rather boho blue & white patterned cotton & it's so comfy, I've worn it to death.

someone asked me where I had my haircut once few weeks later she turned up when I was also having another haircut
We became friends for years, until she sadly died

Years ago, on my way to work, I saw a young woman in a very fetching outfit. She was glancing (very nervously) in windows as she went along so, as I passed her, I simply saiid "You look absolutely gorgous!" and kept on walking.

I'd like to think she enjoyed the compliment!

I have often complimented people on their hair, shoes and clothes and would be flattered if they did the same to me.

I have complemented people before especially on the hairstyle. Sometimes it's accepted graciously and with joy and other times with surprise and puzzlement. When my daughter's second child was due I asked a mum where she got her (two seater) pushchair from and told her how nice and practical it was. At the time I was in London with a friend who lives there. She said although doing that might be appropriate in the North, where I am from, that it was not appropriate in London to do that as people don't speak to each other.

Interesting.... I've recently unearthed some trousers from the depths of my wardrobe. Have twice been complimented and each time I told the brand when asked. One lady said 'oh' and the other said 'that explains it'. There was an obvious assumption that I had paid hugely. Wrong. Dregs of a Jaeger sale and a lucky scoop find. I would certainly always compliment anyone saw looking particularly eye-catching but I would never ask the source. Always hope they might proffer that spontaneously!

I sometimes see someone with a really good haircut and have wished that I could ask them where they got it cut - but I've never had the nerve. I don't know why really because if that happened to me I would be flattered.

I always compliment someone if like what they are wearing or if their hair looks nice. Ive never had a negative response and always enjoy any compliment given. Why wouldn’t you.
