Flattered or annoyed

I saw a lady today in the street and really admired the jacket she was wearing. I wanted to tell her so and maybe ask where she’d bought it but of course I did no such thing. Have you ever felt like doing something similar, or has anyone ever approached you and said how much they like what you’re wearing. Would you be flattered or annoyed?

Someone mistook me for being the mother of my granddaughter yesterday. She is three, I’m 66. Admittedly, I was wearing a mask at the time but heck, I’ll take the compliment, thank you! grin

Someone mistook me as the grandmother of my daughter aged 8 months. I was 27 and was speechless. shock

I wasn’t even wearing a mask

My best compliment came at my nephew's wedding when a young girl (about 8?) admired my Laura Ashley two-piece. When I said I was the groom's auntie, she said, 'I wish I had a cool auntie like you'.

i think i would be very wary of doing this, and of hearing it.
maybe because i have lived and worked in london for so long.
esp asking anything about a garment etc.
that might be seen as impertinent.
and it's risky to speak to strangers in London.
people often think you are after something, or up to something, or just deranged. so they tend to ignore, or back off.
a man at work had his mother down from manchester.
he was acutely embarrassed by her speaking to people on the tube. he had to tell her not to do that.
o tempora, o mores.
