I'm certainly not a fan of PM and don't watch GMTV but am wondering if he'll be re instated.

Blossoming Wed 01-Sept-21 11:17:52

Not really bothered since I don’t watch TV and don’t believe a word PM says anyway.

I don't think he'll be able to work for a while after he's had Sean Locke's ashes scattered in his eyes

Mollygo Wed 01-Sept-21 11:28:45

I don’t watch PM, only heard about the MM fracas on GN and on the news. I liked Sean Lock, but what a strange, unfunny thing to say.

FannyCornforth Wed 01-Sept-21 11:31:20

Can someone explain the Sean Locke thing please?

I posted the link on the Sean Locke thread. He made a joke some time ago about wanting his ashes scattered.....in Piers Morgan's eyes. He is entitled to make that comment as PM is to make his comments about MM

I am delighted to hear this.

Ofcom’s statement said it’s code allows for individuals to express strongly held and robustly argued views.

It went on to say that restrictions of such views would be a chilling restriction on freedom of expression.
In other words Piers Morgan was perfectly entitled to state that he didn’t believe a word Meghan Markle said.

I know Piers Morgan is a bit of a divisive figure, but this ruling is not really about him but more about protecting freedom of speech.

A good decision in my opinion.

I am afraid to disappoint you Mollygo but it isn't my material

Unfortunately I couldn't find the video sad RIP Sean

FannyCornforth Wed 01-Sept-21 11:51:45

Thank you Gill
What I know of PM is just from what I’ve read by and about him. I’ve never seen him on TV.
I know even less about Sean Locke.
From what I gather GMB really needs Morgan (or Moron, as Private Eye rather childishly refer to him).

FannyCornforth Wed 01-Sept-21 11:55:10

Jennifer is it Morgan’s job to report the news or comment upon it?
The BBC and independent TV, and radio, have such different rules etc

Galaxy Wed 01-Sept-21 11:59:28

He is just so creepy and stalker ish about MM. My free speech means I can say thatgrin

FannyCornforth Wed 01-Sept-21 12:01:15

She does bring out the worse in a lot of people.
It’s quite a talent really.

I don't think GMB is strictly a news programme, I know it has news bulletin in it and it deals with "topical" subjects but it isn't like the 6 o'clock news. The BBC morning show is the same, human interest stuff, interviews with people promoting their new book or film etc.

Daisymae Wed 01-Sept-21 12:04:33

It's an opinion and he's entitled to have it. I would think that it's a good decision, ITV have certainly missed him, or rather the ratings have dropped which may not be the same thing.

He did seem to get obsessed but during the first months of the pandemic I think he was very good at challenging ministers, well if they were brave enough to go on. I think the BBC were really poor at just letting them say anything but that has changed.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 01-Sept-21 12:05:57

P Moron has had it in for Meghan since she was advised by friends not to meet him. He is toxic. Just remember how he was all over trump like a rash. I don’t think he respects anyone.

Daisymae Wed 01-Sept-21 12:15:04

Agree that the BBC interviewers seem to have been invigorated/emboldened by PMs stance. Which must be a good thing.

theworriedwell Wed 01-Sept-21 12:43:42

Yes Daisymae, I think there was a bit of an argument between him and Dan on the BBC and I do think it has made the BBC presenters a bit tougher with their questions. I have been know to shout at the screen when they don't follow up a stupid answer, just smile sweetly and accept the rubbish.

Chestnut Wed 01-Sept-21 12:57:23

PM can be a pain in the butt but words like toxic and creepy are over the top. He can be irritating but often speaks the voice of common sense and does a cracking good celebrity interview. So he goes from one extreme to the other, sometimes being a real annoyance but also being a very good journalistic broadcaster when he pulls his head in. So I like and dislike him in equal measure,

Nannan2 Wed 01-Sept-21 13:16:36

We used to have GMB on , followed by Lorraine, every weekday when my two youngest boys were still in school, then in high school, as the time displayed on screen told them what time it was up to the minute, and therefore how much time they had left to get their bus! Since the very youngest left school i haven't seen it since and i must say, I've not missed it at all! As soon as youngest began college, i woke him, he went back to his room with his breakfast, i shouted him if he was running out of time, whilst i enjoyed a cuppa back in bed. He's about to start his final 2 years of college, finally back to normal attendance we hope! But thank goodness no more GMB.

Nannan2 Wed 01-Sept-21 13:18:32

*typo- He's soon to

JaneJudge Wed 01-Sept-21 13:21:12

Nannan2, we used to do the same! I wonder how many other people used to use the clock to get their little ones up and dressed. Argh I remember it well, put your shoes on, put your shoes on, where's your bag? have you got your lunch? smile

JenniferEccles Wed 01-Sept-21 14:05:04

As I said before, this is not specific to Piers Morgan. The ruling would have applied to anyone in similar circumstances.
It doesn’t matter whether we like him or not, or in fact have mixed feelings about him as I do.
This is a very significant vote for the principle of freedom of speech

M0nica Wed 01-Sept-21 14:18:16

Never seen him on tv, or anywhere else, but he is probably right about what D of S. I give her little credence either.

Smileless2012 Wed 01-Sept-21 14:20:54

I agree JenniferEccles significant indeed.
