Ah Gingster and hollysteers - fellow bookworms.

Don’t you just love the anticipation of choosing a new book? You’re certainly never alone with a book. I love disappearing for hours into one!
#lazygran

Gingster my last novel was by Kristen Hannah & called ‘The Four Winds’. Would highly recommend. About the Dust Bowl in Texas & Oklahoma in the 1930’s and the subsequent migration of many to search for work in California. Heart rending novel based of course on fact. So much so, I ordered a classic I've not read since Year 11 at the grammar school. ‘Grapes of Wrath’ by Steinbeck.

My new book which I started today is very promising. ‘Anatomy of a Scandal’ by Sarah Vaughan. Apparently it’s being made into a Netflix drama. Sarah Vaughan is a political writer for the Guardian. Her protagonist is a 41y old barrister so we will be having a court case/a politician in the spotlight with a #me-too slant. I like a complete change of genre to keep my interest high!

I have recently finished a book called 'People Like Us' by Louise Fein. It is set in Leipzig at the beginning of the 1930's.

Although a work of fiction there is a lot of historical fact in the story.

Well worth reading.

Good morning, Mick and everyone from the cool and grey of Carlisle. The sun actually came out yesterday in the late afternoon but it was a bit cool for sitting out. My CH has occasionally kicked in first thing in the morning and in the evening. Last night I had to turn it up and put a thicker sweater on. I seem to feel the cold more and more.
Yesterday at breakfast, a crown came out. I phoned my private dentist to find there wasn't one in that day. There isn't this morning either, they are all on holiday! The dentist that may come in for emergencies may give me a call. It just isn't good enough so I'm looking to change. The current practice is part of a chain which took over my former Whitehaven practice where they were fine. I think the problem is that the dentists all seem to be Spanish and disappear home for the summer. Not a way to run a business. I'm glad I'm not in agony.
I've dismembered the last of my cardboard boxes but stuff is still scattered around looking for a home. I was fed up with seeing the boxes though.
I remember that poem now, Ashcombe. It's a bit sad, isn't it?
Smiling at Iris's precocious comment!
It's a sad anniversary for you, Georgesgran, all rather raw still.
Will be thinking of you.

I've been on that canal Hollysteers probably about 20 years ago - it was a lovely day. Hope to make it to North wales in about 10 days time, so looking forward to it!

Morning all from grey East Yorkshire.

Thank you for the poem Ashcombe I’d forgotten that one.
Hugs to Georgesgran ?
Happy Anniversary Auntieflo and Mr.A ?? that is some achievement.

I’m feeling very washed out today after looking after DGS yesterday. Last week I asked him what his favourite book at nursery was. He told me “Poo in the zoo” it’s a new one to me but I ordered it online for him and we collected it yesterday. We read it several times it’s very funny and all the reviews etc say children love it. One to recommend for sure.

I’m going to have a quiet day although I have a call centre call to make today. Oh joy ?

Have a good day all.

brook2704 Thu 02-Sept-21 09:59:58

Morning from a dull but dry part of the Scottish Borders. Glad to see Scentia and Gwen seem to be on the mend. Some admin to do namely rearranging my flu vaccine at Lloyds. I stupidly booked it for a day I do childcare. Have some minutes to type and then may even put out some feelers for a job. Have seen a couple of advertisements and there is a long closing date so might be feasible. Wash done and hung out. Food delivery later. Off to to do my physio exercises. Very positive session yesterday though I think I have always had the tendency to walk like a duck and will take a lot of effort to eradicate that. Take care everyone. Radio four on as usual. Ddog slobbing on sofa.

hollysteers Thu 02-Sept-21 09:44:26

Good morning Mick and all from a dull Lancashire coast. Nothing exciting on the cards today. Visitors staying next week so will give their bedrooms a tickle. Chillier in the house, so extra cardie time. Just finished latest book, so big decision, what to read next!
Yesterday to side of house and up ladder in garage to read meters. Fond memories of the days this was done for me, I seem to have to do it every three minutes. Some things in life seem more complicated than in Ye Olden Days.
Ashcombe Walter de la mare is one of my favourite poets.
Thinking of you Georgesgran, I miss my husband so much too, it’s very hard.
Pics from my lovely trip to Llangollen on Tuesday.

Good morning Mick and all. It’s cool, grey and cloudy again here in Lancashire. At least it’s dry with no rain forecast. Temperature currently 14 deg C.

Another day with not much planned, still resting my knee. The swelling has gone down a little and it’s not as sore. The pharmacy did not have my missing meds and asked me to return this afternoon. Before that we are awaiting delivery of a new mattress. The old one is ready to be collected and Mr. B will help me get the new one correctly placed.

Welcome to any new posters. Best wishes to anyone celebrating and virtual hugs to anybody suffering.

Wishing a safe journey to anybody traveling.

Have the best day possible. ?

Auntieflo Thu 02-Sept-21 09:40:25

Good morning Mick, Annie, and all
Today is our 60th wedding anniversary, thank you Elizabeth1 for the best wishes.
This is us on that day so many years ago. I never thought, in my wildest dreams that we would make such an achievement.

Georgesgran flowers for you.

Our granddaughter, husband and great grandson, 4, are visiting this afternoon, so hatches will be firmly battened down.

Thinking of our missing posters
Have a good day one and all.
