What do others do all day when it’s too hot to go outside or do anything useful indoors?
I walked the dog at 6am and cleaned the bathroom before it got really hot. Done some sewing and read my book. Now I’m bored.

I love the sunshine but it doesn't like me! I have MS and am heat intolerant so as soon as the temperature hits 25C I'm holed up in my bedroom, reading or watching tv and enjoying the lovely cool breeze from my portable air conditioning unit.

Lightning in the distance and a lovely cool breeze - two hot days was enough for me!

I love it. Went for a two hour walk with a friend this morning and sat in the garden this afternoon.

I think it's cooling down now.

There were thunderstorms and flash floods in Devon today.

It is much easier to look scruffy if in blazer shirt and tie and that is one of those little acts of rebellion that boys in particular enjoy.

I'm surprised by how many teenagers actually WANT to wear the shirt and tie with blazer look as opposed to the sweatshirt. My guess is that they can personalize their style with various tie knots, open buttons, (as low as some dare), and blazers with pockets and compartments for phones, gadgets, chewing gum etc!
Very sticky here this afternoon and little air.

Black tights are essential whatever the weather as skirts are so short!

At least they don't have to wear gym slips, the worst invention ever for teenage girls.

Judging by the amount of sweet wrappers I found in blazers, lots of pockets were very handy

I live in Northern California and during the summer months we regularly have temperatures around 36/39C. I have definitely become acclimated over the years, and don’t think I could live in a colder climate now!!

It suddenly got very humid here; I was picking beans etc in the garden and always feel the heat more when the humidity is high.

I have just got back from doing some sketching with friends, yes, we were exposed to the bright sunshine and slight breeze and i've enjoyed every moment of it

Early start here to get washing done and hung out. Then I took 2 very hot, mask wearing, bus rides to deliver 58 baby hats to a Glasgow hospital who had an online article saying they needed them. The 2 nurses who came to meet me were delighted with them.
Then back to 'home' for now. I'm cat sitting for DD who has finally managed to get a well deserved holiday. The 2 housecats are dozing in different places but I'll let them out in the back garden when I get the washing in. I'm not a lover of too hot weather so will open windows and get on with my patchwork.

I'm gobsmacked that silly blazers are still a thing? They're neither use nor ornament, they get outgrown in weeks; they're just a bit of snobbery we all don't need! All schools should have blue/red/green/yellow jumpers;black/grey skirts or pants for both girls and boys. Then the ridiculous cost of fancy useless uniforms can be scrapped once and for all! When will this country stop thinking it's special?!

They have made a come back I think Gabrielle56!
This is just an ordinary comprehensive school, not independent or an academy but the uniform rules are very strict and the cost is very high.
Yes, they had to wear their blazers in that heat.

I'm not against uniform per se because otherwise I think there is too much silly competition between pupils but simpler uniforms perhaps with polo shirts and jumpers. However, even those become customised and more pricey.

Yesterday was very hot and sunny here on the IoW, but fortunately we had a nice breeze off the sea which made it more comfortable. I finished some sewing, then online shopping, then read my book on the patio with endless cups of coffee. Today started bright and sunny but is now overcast and looks like it might rain, and the temperature has dropped considerably. Time to attack the ironing I think!

Washed last night and had everything out on the line early this morning. Ate breakfast on the patio and an al fresco lunch. In between I’ve done housework as I’m meeting up for coffee and cake with a friend who I’ve not seen for 9 months tomorrow. Prepared our tea which I’ll also enjoy outdoors. And briefly browsed GN, FB and Insta.

I am just glad that my own little family are all safe and well. Some terrible things going on around the world and I am just so grateful for the little things in life like this beautiful sunny day.

Had a successful weeding session mid morning (no longer do early) and then a cooler riverside walk. About to hit the High Street for a couple of essentials. I will come back and watch a favourite tv show before getting back into the garden again. Just love this weather. The hotter the better. The utter freedom it gives me is a joy. Sure wish it was going to continue.

Hetty58 Wed 08-Sept-21 13:59:04

VioletSky, they've (temporarily) changed the rules on autumn muck spreading - so everyone around here is wondering where the awful smell is coming from!

Very early, I was clearing the moss from some gutters - then a much needed shower (I was covered in black dust) later, it was already too hot for a walk. So, lunch and siesta for me then a late stroll with the dog today.

Riverwalk Wed 08-Sept-21 13:57:33

It's about 27C here today. I did my usual early walk, a bit of laundry, then took the long way round to buy wine and avocados.

Later going out for wine & tapas smile sitting in the shade.

Tomorrow is another day.

Meant to mow the lawn early but the grass was too wet with dew. Now ut is too hot!! Got the flower tubs watered early and some weeding. Delivered lunch and a cold drink to the chap strimming the long grass along the driveway - quite a lengthy job. Now I sm going to take my kindle out to the summer house and worry about mowing the grass later!

nanna8 Wed 08-Sept-21 13:45:04

Lucky lot. It reached a top of 20 here but then it went back down to about 14 . Freezing, and I am sat in front of the fire. Still, it was bright sunshine and blue skies so could be worse.

Yesterday I cleared my desk after making several phone calls/sending overdue emails, then I picked figs and made three jars of fig jam, picked and froze several kilos of french beans, stewed several kilos of apples, mopped all the floors, did several wash loads, attended a busy PPG meeting - and, after a ten day stay, I returned the last visiting grandchild to his papa, ready for him to start his first day of school today. In the evening my husband and I drank a toast to surviving the serial visits from our children and grandchildren over the summer - and then breathed a happy sigh.

Today started as yesterday, but it took all the morning and having got my work out of the way I now have two chocolate and courgette cakes in the oven and am ready to start on the next two when I’ve finished my cup of tea. Then it’s off to the allotment to pick blackberries and raspberries, which I’ll freeze and bag up. The weather is cooler here today, which is a blessing because yesterday I felt quite overwhelmed with the heat.

grandtanteJE65 Wed 08-Sept-21 13:30:39

It can never be too hot!

I love hot weather and have tons of energy when it is hot, so I get through three times my normal amount of work and eat like a horse too.

Daffydilly Wed 08-Sept-21 12:36:18

Unfortunately I'm out at work all day.
