To me, it looks rude. It seems to be some sort of joke when they do it in photos, but I don't know what they mean by it. Can anyone tell me why they do it and what it means?

My daughter had a friend that did this every time! I just used to give her a look, and she re-arranged her face quickly.
Thankfully my daughter never followed her lead, she knew me too well! This was some25 years ago, so it's not a new trend.
I also dislike the pouty faces. Why the girls think it makes them look more appealing is a mystery - it doesn't!

My friend who is 53 does it all the time and I find it weird. She looks much better with a big smile.

Girls pouting their lips in an effort to look sexy is another one I hate
I’m so pleased my granddaughters don’t do it

Our GC have ruined otherwise lovely family photos by doing this. I hate it, also the finger gestures above people's heads. Fortunately I can usually edit them out of photos.

What about the ones when they pucker up ?
For some reason, there are some that seem to think it makes them look more desirable ! Yeah right!!!

I see those puckered up mouths and just think of the rear end of a cat with its tail up

It doesn't mean anything. I am sure there were things you did as a child that could be compared to this. It is something that children do. Accept...hahaha

I think it started as a way of showing off tongue piercings which can’t be seen unless the pierced stick their tongue out. Somehow it’s become common place with it without the tongue piercing now.

My dad frequently used to do it in the hope that the photo wouldn't get taken!
These days it's more in fun and a "don't care what you think" attitude

I agree. It seems to be a generational thing. Being raised in the 60s I was conditioned to consider it a rude action. In contrast today it seems fashionable. I can’t see anything attractive about it, but then again I can’t say I appreciate the excessive inking look either. Guess it’s part of the ageing process to be shocked by the younger generation. Suspect my parents weren’t that impressed by my teenage punk look either.

Horrible. It's rude when children do it and looks vulgar when adults do it.

Oh my goodness Caleo you've struck a chord. I HATE this new fad with tongue poked out for a photograph. My grandchildren think it very 'clever' despite me asking them not too. I just delete the photo straight away. I find it rude.

Maybe it is a playful silly face/picture
Not my cup of tea but dont see the harm

Kittye Thu 09-Sept-21 22:15:57

Omg have you got nothing else to be horrified by ?
For goodness sake ?

BlueBelle Thu 09-Sept-21 22:11:07

Oh it’s only a phase

Photographers poke there tongues out at the Royal children to get a response! that has been explained in the press. The children are not rude for copying. It was done to Harry as a small boy in the car with Diana...

Awful.

Artaylar Thu 09-Sept-21 20:22:05

There's one of me doing it at around aged 43.....not one since though - I promise.

annsixty Thu 09-Sept-21 20:15:32

Princess Charlotte has been seen doing it on more than one occasion.
Horrible I think.

The worst I have seen are when they have a stud in their tongue .....shudder

Blossoming Thu 09-Sept-21 19:47:56

Just childish, especially when 40 year olds do it grin

welbeck Thu 09-Sept-21 19:45:31

i think it has got indecent connotations that young children may not, probably not be aware of.
they see the big girls doing it, and think that's the thing to do, without understanding the porn reference.

mokryna Thu 09-Sept-21 19:17:23

The most famous person, Albert Einstein stuck out his tongue.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 09-Sept-21 19:09:59

I think it’s a generation thing, the young think it’s fun and some older folk don’t.
