In my case, Benidorm?

I lived in Naples for 3 years and visited Rome often. I loved it, charged around like the Italians in a battered old Fiat 126. Never had anything stolen, just followed the rules of bag across body, not hanging off shoulder, and no jewellery worth any money. Loved the food, the architecture and the people I met were lovely.

I love this thread!

Whole countries and regions being written-off .... California, Spain, China, Vietnam grin

@Lucca

^Sadly it’s the nearest seaside to me
Worst thing about living in the Midlands is the distance to the sea

Only 52 miles surely. Apparently nowhere In England is more than 52 miles from the sea.^

I'm in Birmingham and I can guarantee that it's at least double your quoted 52 miles to get to the sea. I believe its about 120 to Weston-super-Mare which is my closest seaside town.

Where do I never want to go again.... hospital - the OP didn't say it had to be a holiday destination.

Dss medical centre anywhere, a degrading exercise by the government, to rob us of our benefits which a lot of us have payed into. thankfully im retired!

Glencoe. It was eerie from the battleground. I cried as it was full of negatively with angry atmosphere lingering. Such history. There was a lovely museum and the staff were welcoming and friendly.
If anyone goes, read the history and take a hankie.

Portugal - small son cut his head which cost us £50 (in 1982) for a doctor to stitch. Also the maid in the villa stole from us on the last day , couldn’t for anything about it or would have missed out flight home!

Scotland- every singe time I’ve visited it’s rained every day

Folkestone- dirty and nothing there worth seeing

I loved Singapore.

LovelyLady Tue 14-Sept-21 13:26:49

Bournemouth. Just nothing but shops.

Somebody mentioned Harrogate. I've got a holiday booked there for 4 days. Was looking forward to it but now a bit troubled.

Bridgewater services on the M5. Awful place.

I’ll throw another into the mix. Sydney, Australia. Maybe we were jaded because we’d been in Australia for 2.5wks by then and I wanted to go home, but I was very disappointed. The Opera House was lovely, of course, and the harbour, but the rest? Nope. The bridge was the most disappointing! We’ve got three far superior bridges in Edinburgh alone! grin The rest of Sydney could be any big city anywhere. Dirty and unfriendly.

Loved Melbourne and Adelaide, though.

I also spent two weeks in India nearly 25 years ago. I hated almost every minute of it, but since the day I got home, I’ve wanted to visit again. What’s that all about? confused

Somebody mentioned Harrogate. I'm upset as I have a 4 day holiday booked there for next week. Hope its not too bad.

Annaram1 Tue 14-Sept-21 13:33:13

Oh dear. I thought my first post had been ignored so I wrote a second.... sorry!

? and Harrogate! I rather like the place, and used to work there.

My offering is Burnham-On -Sea a depressing experience about seven years ago ( may be better now.)

Must add st. Petersburg. A mostly beautiful city but populated by the most dour grumpy and miserable people I have ever come across. Perhaps they have nothing to smile about to be fair, because I never saw one the whole time we were there.

Harrogate is fine for a short visit. Harlow Carr gardens are wonderful if you like gardens. Bettys for nice (expensive) food and drinks. Surrounding countryside is good, too. Don't let this lot put you off grin

MaizieD Tue 14-Sept-21 13:46:34

but my 'never go again'?

Sorrento, Capri and the Amalfi coast. Not at all beautiful...
Loved Pompeii & Herculaneum; shame they are where they are, really...

SynchroSwimmer Tue 14-Sept-21 13:47:32

The Cairngorms in January (caveat - longstanding frostbite injury)

Travelodge in Worthing
(The Premier Inn there is superb)

Cycling some of the small villages north of Gloucester (the volume of fly-tipping at the time was utterly unbelievable - so just abandoned and came home)

Sadgrandma Tue 14-Sept-21 13:48:25

I can’t think of anywhere I wouldn’t go again but my daughter would probably stay away from Turkey where she visited as part of an educational cruise whilst at school. She was part of a small group of teenage girls accompanied by a (slightly plump) teacher and they were constantly hassled by men who (jokingly I hope) were offering a different amount of camels for each girl, ten for her, eight for that one etc until they came to the teacher, ‘and for you lady, a baby camel’!?
