Yarmouth - run down and never seen so many people walking about eating chips!
Salzburg - I have no idea why they encourage tourists, they treat them appallingly.
Aberystwyth - can’t think of anything nice to say about it.
And as of last week:
Bridlington. Filthy streets and public seating. Shocked at its decline.

If you want to see hundreds of people walking about eating chips, then visit Whitby in Summer.?
Agree about Brid, it’s gone downhill, but Scarborough still seems fine.

The hospital!

Cyprus. Far too hot and nowhere nice to eat or buy anything special to take home.

My first trip abroad (I was seventeen, in the care of my big sis and her three college friends, one of whom had rented a little villa I can't remember where.) We were there for a month and had, obviously, made friends with the local boys. One night we were taken to a new restaurant up in the hills overlooking a little town. After dinner we walked down to the town and onto the beach. It was the quietest place we'd ever seen, when we looked up we could see the little pink-shaded lamps on the tables of the restaurant we had left. That was Benidorm in the mid sixties on one of those perfect nights I never seemed to have when I was older. I've never been back, and when it became the place it is today never wanted to.

I’ll throw another into the mix. Sydney, Australia. Maybe we were jaded because we’d been in Australia for 2.5wks by then and I wanted to go home, but I was very disappointed. The Opera House was lovely, of course, and the harbour, but the rest? Nope. The bridge was the most disappointing! We’ve got three far superior bridges in Edinburgh alone! The rest of Sydney could be any big city anywhere. Dirty and unfriendly.

Loved Melbourne and Adelaide, though.

I also spent two weeks in India nearly 25 years ago. I hated almost every minute of it, but since the day I got home, I’ve wanted to visit again. What’s that all about?

Loved Sydney! Especially travelling around on the ferries, so much better than buses.
We have relatives living in various places around the harbour and it always seems so lovely.

I haven't been to Melbourne (except the airport) or Adelaide yet.

Los Angeles. Felt very uncomfortable there. Not too keen on Paris. Love Norway.

Thought we'd go into st.pauls last time in London....walked straight back out as we refused to pay £20 to enter a CHURCH!!!
Gabrielle56 we paid £15 each a few years ago to go into Canterbury Cathedral. The usher (can't call her a guide) advised us to go to the crypt first so we did, took about half an hour. We emerged from the crypt to be told we had to leave as a service was about to take place in one area (not the main area which we hadn't seen). Not just us, there were visitors from around the world, all unceremoniously sent out. They were bewildered and upset. I was embarrassed for them.

Bridlington - would only go again to see if it’s got even worse. Called in on way to Bempton Cliffs 3 years ago and couldn’t get away fast enough. Sad place.

I'm not particularly familiar with the bible but isn't there something in there about it being a sin to use a church for money changing Callistemon? Asking for a donation is one thing but charging an entrance fee is immoral imo. Chester cathedral is free to enter but I'm not sure about York?

I recently visited the two magnificent cathedrals in Liverpool - Anglican & Metropolitan.

Both very impressive architecturally, inside and out, and no admission charge - all staff were very helpful.

And they're both on Hope Street!

Scarborough still seems fine.

Think it depends which side you go to Lemon, the new bit looks lovely, clean and fresh. The old bit is a bit like Rhyl!

Just goes to show doesn't it? I can't believe someone doesn't think The Amalfi coast is beautiful. We all think differently.

We went to Bridlington once as a day trip from Hull.
I was reluctant to visit Hull but it was lovely and keen to visit Bridlington which was awful!

Greece is quite a large country and recollections may be different.

As far as I'm aware with St Paul's and others, there is no charge for attending services but they charge visitors/tourists to help with upkeep of the building.

overated overpriced

Quite a few of us seem to have the same opinion of Bridlington, such a shame as it was a lovely seaside resort when I was young. I loved Flamborough, Sewerby and Bempton as well.
