Where’s the one place you never want to visit again?

I was never harassed at all in Marrakesh, apart from the usual people wanting us to buy things.

This is a great thread. So many countries/areas dismissed with a click of the button. France? Disgusting. America? Everyone is rude. Rome? Filthy. Scotland? Don't go there. Love it!

Bridlington looked as if it had a lovely beach but we didn't have time to go on it.
I'm sure Barry Island is very nice but I don't like it

Thank you JaneJudge. I do get very defensive over Jaywick as it seems to be the place everyone hates & sneers at without ever coming to see the decent side of our Village. There are three parts to Jaywick, the part outsiders love to run down-Brooklands- the Village & the Tudor Estate! We like it here & there are as you say good & bad everywhere. Life is not easy in a struggling seaside town.

I agree with Subi about Cornwall; it's so beautiful but the locals we encountered were rude and unfriendly, might just as well have handed out leaflets saying "We want your money but we don't want you". I know that tourists are a burden and a nuisance and the behaviour of some is unbelievable but ... those of us who love to visit other parts of our lovely country are very much put off.

Of course I expected to be moved, especially as my paternal family is Jewish. Someone on here also said the same for Auschwitz. Someone else had nightmares after Anne Frank's house. I'm sure none of us went to these places with our eyes closed, but they certainly stirred the emotions.

Guinea Conakry - frighteningly unhygienic in comparison to other West African countries I've been to, and I just felt unsafe all the time I was there, plus I became quite ill after a week. It's 20 years since I was there and I hope very much that things have improved, but I couldn't wait to return to Senegal where I was based at the time (by comparison, it was much more developed) and I've never wanted to go back.

Rudest places -Paris and Sorrento (awful pizzas too).

Food poisoning in Thailand, Malaysia and Dominican Republic (very badly there).

Ordered out of the sea at gunpoint by police swimming with my young children in Altinkum in 1986 as a census was being held and they wanted to ensure we weren’t Turkish. It was the first year for package holidays and we saw an entrepreneur cooking chips for the Brits on the pavement.

Oh also horrendously rude border staff at JFK, New York.

Las Vegas, didn’t choose to go there, it was a stop on a Canyons tour. After seeing all the natural beauty, Vegas was a nightmare!

I watched that Jaywick program and I didn't think the people were awful. A lot of them seemed to have been handed a really poor hand in life and they had complex problems. There was quite a lot of people helping each other and trying to bring a sense of community and belonging. Jaywick isn't alone in having issues with drug and alcohol addictions and unemployment. I can hazard a guess many of the coastal towns listed on here have similar problems.

I agree, I thought some of the people were brave about life considering their lives and problems and did seem to look out for each other as best they could.It was a very judgemental programme and heavily edited to try and show the worst.

Zanzibar- held at gun point by 2 policemen, for taking picture out to sea of a dhow. Apparently president’s old, disused palace was in the woods 200 yards behind us. They were after a bribe.

Yes Lemongrove, apparently on this program and other similar ones the production team buy them cigarettes and alcohol and ply them with fast food

I think the US has special training schools for their borders staff. Surely no one is born that rude and unpleasant. Chicago O’Hare was the worst we’ve ever been treated. I’ve sworn never to go via O’Hare again, if it can be avoided. My son who lives in the US says they’re equally unpleasant to American citizens so I suppose that’s some small crumb of comfort.

Having said which, the last time we went to the US we flew into Pittsburgh. They were so nice! Very friendly, ushered us through emigration, helped get us to where we needed to go, called lifts for us, showed us the car park. We thought we’d landed in the wrong country. ?

Las Vegas. Hideous place, but a handy hub for a road trip around Arizona and Eastern California.

Barbados.

Oh no. What was it about Barbados? We have a holiday booked there next month!

I loathed Edinburgh when I lived there for a year. Cold both literally and figuratively, snobby, and a very inflated view of its own importance. Not beautiful. I got out as soon as I could. On the other hand, my brother who lived there at a different time loved it. It just depends on your experiences, and what you think important.

I loved Sydney!

My experience of both these places is very out of date.

Mogsmaw and Whatdayisit I had the misfortune to live and work in Northallerton for six months (the longest , and dreariest six months of my life!)
A very boring nothing sort of town with lots of unfriendly people - of course my view could have been coloured by having the landlady from hell. ?
Admittedly it was over sixty years ago and things might have changed but no way am I ever going back to find out even though I only live about 30 miles away from the place.
Very sorry ? to all the lovely people I’ve now offended.

Bournemouth. Holidayed there EVERY year as a child. Then later in life took my boy for day trips etc. Now it is a dirty drug ridden town. Full of homelessness and illegal immigrants. Most of the shops have closed and gone to Southampton. Thankfully I have now discovered the delights of holidaying in the Lakes and Yorkshire and won’t be going back to the south coast any time soon (I live in the middle of the country).

Must add st. Petersburg. A mostly beautiful city but populated by the most dour grumpy and miserable people I have ever come across. Perhaps they have nothing to smile about to be fair, because I never saw one the whole time we were there.

I was told that smiling at strangers - tourists or customers in a shop, for instance - just isn’t part of Russian culture.

I loved St Petersburg.

Yarmouth. Stopped off there on a journey north and couldn't believe the shops - those that weren't selling seaside rock or fluffy toys on elastic were boiling up six week old chip fat. 'Couldn't wait to get back to the car and drive away.

Corsica - unless you are fluent in French and even then you can have problems

Pisa - total rip off, the tower is surrounded by stalls selling cheap tourist rubbish at sky high prices and you have to pay to go into the church (not a donation - an entry fee)

Thought we'd go into st.pauls last time in London....walked straight back out as we refused to pay £20 to enter a CHURCH!!!

Yep, me too. It’s the same at the Cathedral in York. I asked what if someone wants to come here to pray and was told “that’s what it costs”. Very Christian. Would their God approve?

New York - thought it was truly hell on earth. Only went there as had to fly into New York to pick up cruise ship. Central Park was a lifesaver! But each to their own as they say!

Brighton Lanes I went recently on recommendation-the parking charges were horrendous-it was simply jewellery shop after jewellery shop -certainly a wasted day!
