In my case, Benidorm?

Just goes to show how we all prefer different places. I think Northallerton is a lovely North Yorkshire town, people very helpful and friendly. Also it doesn’t have many empty or boarded up shops like a lot of places.
One place I dislike is Dubrovnik. I found the people to be very cold and unfriendly, certainly wouldn’t go back.

Ok thanks for the info. Glad to see it's been sorted.
I sound like an authority on Burnham, May7 ?
In truth, I've only been a couple of times, once on a lovely sunny day and as soon as we parked there was an almighty thunder storm, the second time it was so hot we didn't do much. But the beach seemed ok and quite sandy and no dogs!
I live very near Middlesbrough and believe me Northallerton is nowhere near as much a dump as that place is these days. It is such a depressing and sad place IMO.

Rimini. Took out a bank loan for £300 (a fortune to me at the time) in August 1983 when I was in my mid twenties to pay for a two week holiday with a mate. Turned out to be the two weeks of the Italian National holidays and Rimini was their version of Blackpool! Dire place. I don’t do sunshine (got terribly burnt), hotel food was appalling, coach took days to get there and I hate tatty faux British bars. So, why I agreed to go there I still have no idea! Never been back though! Shame about Brid nowadays, if it’s as bad as you say. We stayed in a B&B there every year when I was young, as we had relatives in the town. I loved the place.
Rimini is definitely not great ! However I have a friend who said she didn’t like Italy. When I asked why she said she had been to Rimini.
Bit like someone saying they don’t like England because they’ve been to Blackpool or something!!
Malta
Loved Valetta but the rest of the island... meh...

Las Vegas.
I just found your answer intriguing GranEd! I like Swainby and Osmotherley and we go to Middlesbrough a lot but I don't think I will bother with Northallerton now lol.??

Thanks Maggiemaybe ?
I too thought it a bit strange that anyone would be remotely interested in my honest response. Maybe the heading to the thread should have added ..... ‘& why?’ ... and then I’d have replied more fully.
Whatdayisit
Of course I’m not offended ?.Maybe I should have added reasons to my one word response which I now realise was a little terse!
Bet you couldn’t get away fast enough after your netballl match though!
(Only joking ?? !!)
Why? It’s a lovely North Yorkshire market town
Thanks for that explanation, TizLiz.. If there’s no cafe, I’ll give it a miss.
. Dh and ds1 went up it when ds was about 10yo. I think Dh was doing a charity thing with colleagues. They were all huffing and puffing up while ds scampered his way to the top.
Maggiemaybe I didn't ask GranEd to explain herself and I didn't expect her to. I thought it was being conversational. Many have explained in there post why they don't like somewhere. It was more of an intrigue rather than a demand.
GranEd I have only been to Northalleeton to play netball in my teens a long time ago I have no opinion. I hope I haven't offended you by asking you why. I have no defence of the place. Many people have explained why they don't want to go back to a place it was just surprising to see Notthallerton as it was just not one of the usual suspects
May7
Absolutely agree with you Cherylrov . I’ve never seen so much dog dirt on one beach in my life.. We went on a family holiday there in the 90s with our dogs and children. Never to be repeated.
So you went in the 90s and think there is still dog dirt on the beach May7? That was 30 years ago.
Dogs are banned all year round on the beach, jetty and Esplanade steps. Beach area 2 - (between the Jetty and the Yacht club) - Dogs are banned on the beach and Esplanade steps from May to September each year.

Burnham on sea awful place should be Burnham on mudbank and very rundown. Skegness is fine compared to there!
There's more sand at Burnham than at Weston or Barry Island!!

I saw this on TripAdvisor. Somehow I doubt that reviewer will be returning!
I was astounded when I was told there was no cafe at the top of Ben Nevis! I’d seen old photos of cars being driven up to the top and had always assumed there was a cafe there.
Needless to say, I’ve never been up there.
You could only drive up for a short while when they were building a bridge. Path is now too narrow so they will never be a cafe there - still too busy for me.

How odd that GranEd's dislike of Northallerton should have caused such a kerfuffle. Three people now have asked her to explain herself, which she really shouldn't have to.
I take it they themselves like the place, possibly live there, but my favourite city, favourite town and the whole county I live in have come up on here, and I see no reason to take it personally!

Mine would be Benidorm. When we went to the travel agents we had a choice of Benidorm, Benidorm or Benidorm. Never again!!!!

Mogsmaw and Whatdayisit I had the misfortune to live and work in Northallerton for six months (the longest , and dreariest six months of my life!)
A very boring nothing sort of town with lots of unfriendly people - of course my view could have been coloured by having the landlady from hell. ?
Admittedly it was over sixty years ago and things might have changed but no way am I ever going back to find out even though I only live about 30 miles away from the place.
Very sorry ? to all the lovely people I’ve now offended. You didn't offend me GranEd. So many places on here are not surprising!
Don't you ever visit there?
There are some places - especially market towns - which have recently become popular again after being a bit rotten dare I say like Malton?
I’m actually quite well travelled Whatdayisit and have visited lots of the places other people seem to dislike with no problem at all - both in the UK and abroad.
I can honestly say that Northallerton is the only place I can definitely say I will never ever visit again.
I seem to be on my own in my loathing of the place. ???
Douglas, IOM although I absolutely love the rest of the island.
India . I was ill for 10 days a d hassled the whole time . Hated it .
