Good afternoon dear Kitcheners, it has rained heavily last night and most of today, just brightening up now. Ironically I have been getting emails from our water supplier for the last few weeks issuing dire warnings of falling reservoir levels after our ‘dry’ summer! I’m glad you had a good evening with your friend annsixty, we all need a break for an hour or two and what better way to spend it. Sorry to hear about the falls Sue and Yia, hope they’re OK, though doubtless shaken. One of my most embarrassing falls was over balancing while sitting on the ‘safety seat’ in the shower, designed to stop me falling. I bruise easily, it was spectacular!

I have removed around half of the contents of Mr. B’s wardrobe, things he doesn’t wear and good enough for the charity shop. It’s a struggle getting him to part with them! All bagged up and ready to go tomorrow. We are much more organised now, for the time being at least.

The electrician has been and sorted out the slug damage to the greenhouse electrics, power is restored and all tidy again.

After quite an active day I won’t be moving much this evening. TOYA

It’s been a showery afternoon here in Inverness and quite windy so the washing has been in and out trying to get it dry in between showers. Definitely an autumnal nip in the air. DH has just ordered a leaf blower gadget thingy to help clear up the mountain of leaves we accumulate each year so I hope it does the job. Our back garden backs onto woodland so when it’s windy we get far more than our fair share blowing into the garden and they never seem to blow back out again

DH picked up DD2 and family from the airport and all are safely home from a quick trip to the Harry Potter Studio tour near London. The DGC who are big Harry Potter fans really enjoyed it, expensive but worth it for the happy memories. It reminded me of years ago when I took my children to the Granada Studios tour a few times, I can still remember some of the sets now and we always enjoyed our days out there.

Sorry to hear that a few falls have been reported from kitcheners recently, I hope everyone is ok SueDonim your poor expectant DD and Yias DS, I hope he’s recovered now. And yes oh dear soop best not mention yours!

We're not going far as rural Norfolk appears devoid of fuel totally ! So we are hunkered down in wild, wet and windy weather waiting for it all to pass.

The young lad over the road turned up on our doorstep yesterday. He needed badges sewn on his air cadet uniform( according to him his Mum doesn't know how to sew lol ) . So he sat patiently whilst I did that job then rushed home to get his boots for a lesson from Grampy in how to make your boots shiny the military way!!

Other than that life putters on here xx

I have the same thoughts as you Charleygirl5. I used to get through nearly two tanks of petrol a week getting to work. Some areas seem to be worse than others for fuel supplies. I live in mid Cornwall and it's not too bad, but the local news yesterday said there was none in St Ives. Quite a worry for everyone, including those here on holiday.

A lovely afternoon here. Stepfather came to us for a roast lamb dinner (yummy - the only thing I didn’t do well was the pan of gravy - old fashioned way, meat juices, potato water, cornflour and gravy browning, as it was a bit thin - oh well it was all nice and hot - Himself says I’m just a bit out of practice as I’ve not made a roast dinner since July!). We went into the bar downstairs first, so the men had a pint of draught something or other and I had a wine.

I washed up whilst Himself took my stepfather home. Feet up now.

Good luck ladies with the hair thickening powder. It’s brilliant! I just sprinkle a good amount on my hands, rub them together (it seems to disappear) then push my hands up just higher than my ears, onto my scalp. Repeat as needed.

We’ve had a very lazy weekend, MrJ headed up the driving range, this morning rang me to say local garage had fuel, both happy. I started dead heading in the garden, in between hefty showers, more to do and bulbs to plant.
Beef casserole in slow cooker, mash and veg on the way.

We have had a stay at home day, not much fuel in our area of Cambs., ( also have one of DS's family dogs here), so we didn't chance going to our little NW Norfolk bolthole, this weekend.

Just had message from family to say DGD is safely installed in her new room at Lancaster university. (I'm just an anxious old Granny...!!)

Thank you for the posts of concern re my DD’s fall. She’s fine today and it hasn’t dislodged the baby, who is still comfortably ensconced in her tummy, much to DD’s disgust. Yia, your poor son! I hope he’s ok now. I fell on my own driveway and fractured the ‘tib & fib’ in my left leg, about eight years ago. We were due to go on holiday to the Caribbean the next day and even as they filled me up with morphine and had me sign a consent form for an operation I was gibbering on about whether I’d be able to fly the next day.

We took the chance this afternoon of incinerating the rest of the paperwork we’d unearthed in our decluttering. I happened to notice a phone bill from the 80’s (no, I don’t know why Dh had kept it). It was £74 for three months. That was quite a lot of money back then!

I’ve also been catching up with online correspondence with friends and pottering about doing some minor decluttering - those worktops that seem to attract paper and bits of junk.

My dd2’s Covid test was negative, so back to work for her on a night shift in A&E tonight. She’s coming home next week, all things being equal.

No plans yet for tomorrow - we’ll see what the day brings regarding dd1. I might go and shop for the ingredients for Xmas cake & puds.

Babysitting today. He's at playgroup so I've managed to iron, put clothes away and make fairy cakes! I have a zoom craft class tonight and we are doing decoupage pumpkins. I had some really sad news yesterday. A good friend died really suddenly in the morning. He wasn't at home which makes it worse for his partner who is also a really good friend. I am shocked at the suddenness and saddened for his partner and all of us who knew him.

It is our early start day today to look after B.Luckily it was an easier journey today.B was still asleep after an unsettled night so we weren’t sure whether he would go for his nursery trial session.He woke up in a really good mood and excited for nursery.I just collected him and he said I have had the best time grandma?

Henry went for his second session at playgroup today and cried his eyes out going in?He is only just 2 so quite young but fingers crossed he will be fine.His other grandparents are unwell so can’t look after him at the moment so our daughter has had to find an alternative.

Susan the boy wonder cried going in at the first four sessions of his playgroup. Then he settled and was happy going in. Dd said he cried a wee bit on Friday. Today he was a happy boy though. I think it can take a while for them to understand that you're coming back for them!

Good morning all, only just.
Susan my D has her own pre school and she has never yet had a child who hasn’t settled within days and within minutes after mum leaves.

The last two children to start only came for mornings and cried when picked up as they wanted to stay for lunch.
Since Covid she has struggled with numbers but it seems to be picking up now, helped by the fact that last Tuesday she had Ofsted in and got good in every department and on Thursday Environmental Health turned up and she got a 5 rating, she provides a cooked lunch.
She can’t publish the Ofsted rating for,I think, two weeks.

Sorry about your friend Grandmabatty apart from the loss of someone dear it gives us a jolt about our own mortality.

However on to more cheerful topics, I have made soup in the soup maker and have done some vacuuming.
My GD is now doing more days in the office and I can’t use the very efficient but very heavy Shark.
Yesterday an email from gtech offered a cordless lightweight, the stick type, with £100 off so I ordered it.
It was delivered this morning, less than 24 hours after and I put it together in about 3 minutes and have been gaily vacuuming, it seems very good for my purpose and it very light.

I am going to have a coffee now and relax.

Suedonim I hope that baby arrives today, we all know what waiting is like and to all feeling unwell or looking after others, I send my very kindest thoughts.

Ann, I bought a g-tech at the start of the first lockdown and insofar as I can love any domestic equipment I do love this. The little hand held cleaner is in daily use and beats a dustpan and brush any time. A really good investment - who’d have thought it?!

Thank you as well Grandmabatty,I missed seeing your post earlier.It was only Henry’s second day so hopefully he will settle after a couple more sessions.Heard from DD, they were going to call her but by the time they got her details he had settled down.They are going to try shorter sessions for the next couple of weeks so we’ll see how that goes??

Hope your voice is soon better Susan and pleased the nursery session went well. It’s always heart wrenching when the little ones cry if you leave them, DGD went through a clingy phase just after starting school and the teacher literally had to peel her off me one morning ?Nothing like that now though, you’re lucky is you get a smile and a wave as she skips in with her friends! They grow up so quickly though I wish I could hit the pause button. My eldest DGS will be 8 tomorrow and I can still remember dashing to see him in the hospital when he was a newborn with considerable butterflies, having spent a sleepless night waiting for news.

Hopefully SueDonim you won’t have much longer to wait - I’m just slightly green with envy…

Well done to your DD Ann that’s a great achievement with Ofsted and testimony to her hard work and commitment. You must be really proud of her.

If only you lovely lot could sit with me for an entire afternoon. We could amuse each other for several hours and, I would be able to respond to you person to person.
