Well, this kitchen is lovely, I love the cool decor and colourful rugs.
I think I should have typed www.westwoodlakes.co.uk as the other doesn`t seem to work.

Hellogirl1 Tue 12-Oct-21 22:06:57

Grandmajean, that couch that you pronounce "sofa", I pronounce "settee", cos I`m common, lol! Dare I admit that I don`t like either jam or cream on my sconns, just a generous helping of butter?
Too lazy to try and remember all that I`ve read, but
TOYA xx

Hello, Kitcheners! I don’t think I’m going to be able to comment on everyone’s posts, but needless to say, I wish good health to all who are suffering with bodily woes. flowers

Ann that’s a splendid age for your mum to have reached. My mum’s 94 next month and still 100% in her noddle, though she isn’t very mobile now due to arthritis.

Today I’ve put the dried fruit for the Chr*stmas cake and pudding to soak in alcohol. I couldn’t buy currants anywhere. Is that just a local issue or is it everywhere? Luckily I found a pack at the back of the cupboard, BB July 21, so they saved the day.grin

There have been some hiccups with breastfeeding the new baby, which has been a little concerning, but dd has had some professional help and is taking it day by day. My youngest dd is now at DD1’s, cuddling the baby, playing with GD and doing some tasks about the house. My girls are very close and I’m glad they’ve got this time together.

I’m just off to watch another episode of The North Water. I watched the first episode when it came out but didn’t see the rest so am catching up now. I read the book so know roughly what happens but it’s a bit dark!

Have a pleasant evening, everyone. smile

Jaxjacky Tue 12-Oct-21 20:50:47

I’m SKI’ing and sconn’ing… and also very slightly despondent, only a tiny bit. It’s MrJ’s 60th next July, so, I thought, family weekend away, just 3 nights, not pushing the ‘we all get on fine’, which we do. School holidays, in England 2.5-3k…for 3 nights!!! No pool, no naked butlers (apologies son for embarrassing you), no in house chef and most are booked. Looked at center parks…nope, even Butlins…nope. So, we’re going to give the children some money, a tad before Christmas and some next year. We’ll all have a lovely meal out for my toyboy’s birthday, come home, play board games and we’ll taxi them home, best laid plans and all that!
Trigger finger made me think of cowboys, or assassins Susan, I’m sure neither are apt?.
We’re watching England play, not very well, I miss Rufus, we used to chat football.
Hoping all pains physical and otherwise are healing and Yia is parting away at the wedding.
Sleep well you indomitable kitcheners x

And breathe!
Today I have been hosting and chairing a Zoomed Special Interest Day for our local Arts Society branch.
It was fascinating - the subject was “Art and Architecture - Estranged Bedfelllows” - and went right back to what is estimated to be the earliest building - dating back to 9000BC! Then all the way up to modern 21st century art and architecture.
But oh it was a strain remembering when to mute/video off then get the participants to unmute and video on again for the Q&A sessions. All without accidentally pushing the ejector button!
I was also relieved to hear that despite a positive LF test yesterday morning by one of the grandsons I was looking after at the weekend, his PCR came up negative. It’s my Covid booster tomorrow morning too and while I had a negative LF test yesterday if Will had been positive I would have had to cancel!
It’s been a busy few days really - ready to breathe!

Hello good folk in soop's lovely warm kitchen.

Pleased to hear that your back is getting better, Grandmafrench, take it easy now.

I think these SKI trips are a great idea, I'm with you all there.

annsixty, you have very good genes, with your mother living to a grand age.
I think our Queen will live that long, (I hope so), although I saw her on TV today using a stick, first time I've seen that!

Thought about you twice today Urmstongran, first when I did my Ocado order, (pork steaks, for a SOAP dish)! then I ordered some stuff from Boots, & there was the hair powder, on offer too, (2 for £6:50)!! What a bargain!!

Hoping all have a good evening, especially those coping with trials & troubles.

Grandmajean Tue 12-Oct-21 20:04:21

Exactly. Urmstongran I didn't think of rhyming it with "gone" - makes more sense than my "sconn" - at least it is a recognisable word
Am pretty sure have read "Crow Lake" but some time ago. Must check.

Urmstongran Tue 12-Oct-21 19:23:13

Apparently Mary Berry pronounces ‘scone’ like ‘gone’. Not like ‘stone’ or ‘throne’.

There we go. The Queen of baking has spoken. #DebateSolved.”

Urmstongran Tue 12-Oct-21 19:18:15

‘Evening All’.

I met friends today for lunch which was delicious. Decided to knock my wine consumption on the head for a while it’s become rather a daily habit (not good). I need time out to reset I think. I came home with a book too - loaned to me by one of the ladies - ‘Crow Lake’ by Mary Lawson. Always nice to have a recommendation!

annsixty you sound so much more upbeat these days! Wonderful to hear you’re getting your life back on track after all the pain you had last year & getting out and about again with friends. No wonder you sound so happy.

Susan56 Tue 12-Oct-21 18:52:35

I think he will probably need an operation for the hernia muse. The last two hernias he had operations both done in a completely different way by different surgeons so we will see if the third one matches either of the previous two!The trigger finger was sorted with a couple of injections so hoping that is the case again.

soop, I think DH would like the poorly gentleman’s wing but possibly not the strict matron!

I am another in the sconn pronunciation camp!

muse Tue 12-Oct-21 18:08:43

Hello kitchen lovelies.
Lots done today without hardly getting off my backside.
I meant to say last night how pleased I was to read that your DH's ulcers were improving Nannytopsy and also Grandmafrench is mobile without pain today.
Is your DH hoping for an operation Susan? Had to read up about trigger finger. Sounds like a splint is needed perhaps.
A dash of colour for winter sounds an excellent idea Annodomini.
Riding the waves nannagarra.?Yee-haw?
See you all tomorrow ?. I have my eye on those cheese and onion tarts ☺️.

soop Tue 12-Oct-21 16:53:47

Grandmafrench Rest that back. That's an order from an overcast Kintyre.

soop Tue 12-Oct-21 16:52:22

Thank you, Jax grin

annsixty Talk about putting a spring in your step...you remind me of children on those space-hopper thingies. Go, girl and have yourself as much fun as you can. sunshine

Susan56 Your dear husband needs all the TLC that you can offer. At one time, the kitchen had a poorly husbands' wing. We had a resident matron. She was stern, I'm given to believe. A no nonsense, old fashioned, regular on the ward. It would be a pity for any husband to have to follow her regime. shock

Grandmajean It is a "sconn". Mr Soop is a Cornishman. He agrees with you.

Nannagarra Such a lovely, happy picture you've conjured in my imagination. flowers

I'm still in the so-called art studio. Not much else achieved as I've been concentrating on the shaggy dog portrait. Thus far...so good. Sigh.

My best wishes to you all. Until tomorrow smile moon

Grandmajean Tue 12-Oct-21 16:06:58

Grandmafrench it has to be jam first on a scone as it's impossible to spread jam on top of cream ! I suppose you could dollop.
Dare I go where angels fear to tread and discuss the pronunciation of "scone?"
It's "sconn" - no arguments please.
Am hiding behind the couch now - pronounced "sofa"

Susan56 Tue 12-Oct-21 15:45:54

After a hectic couple of days and a hectic start to today I am having a lazy afternoon!

Ann, I too love your SKI idea.I feel we are doing the same as we have booked a weekend away for later this month and another one for next month!

Yia, hope you are having a lovely time at the wedding??

Grandmafrench, glad your back is feeling better. To add to the scone debate I am a jam then cream girl.DH adds butter before the jam?

DH has developed another hernia, his third?and also a recurrence of trigger finger?I telephoned the surgery this morning and asked if a dr could telephone when they could. The result was a call back within the hour and DH has an appointment with a consultant at 9.30 tomorrow?

I hope our resident artist is having a successful afternoon????‍?

TOYA

Jaxjacky Tue 12-Oct-21 15:35:51

Oops

Jaxjacky Tue 12-Oct-21 15:34:59

Go ann, yesterday M&S, tomorrow the world! Well, you get the gist..?
I understand your caution Dogsmakemesmile, I’ve always been that way too, but sometimes we have to jump a little bit, or at least dip a toe, into the future.
Pleased your back is healing Grandmafrench, but ironing, come on please, I’ve moved my (MrJ’s actually), dry washing from one room to another, that’ll do for now.
soop I’m sending you the attached!
A win of any sort is a plus anno, double ++ when unexpected.
Catch you all later.

Nannagarra Tue 12-Oct-21 14:45:50

Good afternoon kitcheners. Your SKI concept, ann, is one I’m keen to adopt. Excellent news about your back Grandmafrench and thank you for the cheese and onion pie.
Whilst I was swimming this morning there was a toddlers’ lesson in the baby pool. The instructor and parents sang while the tots jumped in and out of the water and rode “woggle” horses. How I smiled when I realised I wasn’t the only adult in the main pool joining in with, “Giddy up, we’re homeward bound”!
Enjoy your day everyone from another who has jam first.

soop Tue 12-Oct-21 14:27:20

Good afternoon dear peoples.

I am busy in the so-called art studio and need to concentrate. I shall take a break for a brew mid afternoon. I shall then hope/dare to play the eternal game of catch up. wink

annsixty Tue 12-Oct-21 12:09:42

I think it is worth mentioning to relatively recent visitors to the kitchen that my mother was 101 and 8 months when she died.
Fully with it mentally until a few days before.

annodomini Tue 12-Oct-21 11:36:26

Ann, set your sights higher. Aim to score a century. That's my goal, as long as I stop throwing myself to the ground. The bruises I sustained last week have shown up and are still quite sore. My ego may never recover. Your M&S is, presumably, the one I sometimes frequent. Last week I had trouble finding any trousers there that weren't jeans of which there were thousands in a bewildering variety of shapes none of which were mine.
A nice surprise yesterday when an email told me I'd 'won' a bag I'd bid for on Ebay and completely forgotten. My old red handbag is looking rather tired and I do like to have a cheerful bag in winter - and red gloves.

Dogsmakemesmile Tue 12-Oct-21 10:50:45

Fantastic attitude Ann. Drizzly here but better weather forecast. Had elevenses a while back but might have another. Last night DH and I had fun looking on line at properties. The one we really liked has just gone under offer but suddenly realised we still have options/choices and we can move house. I think we've been so cautious (understandably) and we need to challenge ourselves. Maybe not this year but perhaps next. Had brief panic about ddog who appeared to have terrible wound to leg. Didn't phone vet and took deep breaths. He had been lying on some blackberries....

Grandmafrench Tue 12-Oct-21 10:00:43

Only 'til about 95, Ann? Never had you down as a lightweight. Come on, you can do better than that and all the shops are in dire need of your attention. Have a happy day!

Grandmafrench Tue 12-Oct-21 09:58:24

A little Good Morning all - I'm posting before GN 'admission' starts playing up again. Just to say that, as is often the case, the Power of Grans has struck and my back is behaving normally again. I shall continue being careful for a while but love and thanks to all of you for all the kind thoughts.

Grandmabatty, why don't you just say that you're off to Toddler Gym? I'm sure if you belonged to an ordinary Gym, you'd find the classes there easier. Not so much fun, but easier. Have a really good day you and little L., and those crocodiles!

Sorry about the scones and cream debacle! I truly am very good with names; but my tricks for remembering 'stuff' sometimes fails. Here's an example: I remember Cream first, Cornwall = 2 C's. Easy. No! It's the opposite..... and that's the bit I forgot. So, there am I thinking I'm really radical because I always put jam first - it's what makes it manageable. And I'm trying to look like a rebel to Cornish dwellers. No, again! Never mind - seems everyone knew but me. It was delicious, whatever!!

Have a good day all. I am hiding in our study. Hiding from the kitchen fitter who is installing our new equipment, to replace the old. Really awful whining noise coming from a saw! I trust no one with a saw in my home, so better I don't see what's happening. Instead I'm going to do the ironing - obviously desperate moves are needed; but meanwhile plan all that carefully whilst I look out at the brilliant sunshine, shocking pink oleander and blue skies and also --waste time--check in on the Kitchen!

Anyone up and at 'em, you're welcome to share the little cheese and onion pies and pumpkin soup left on the Aga. If you're still waterless, GrannyS, please take double your share.

Take care! ?

annsixty Tue 12-Oct-21 09:57:24

Good morning all from a dull Stockport.
I just had to post yet again to tell you of my further gallivanting.
After I had posted yesterday for the second time my phone rang and my friend across the road said .do you fancy a trip to M&S?
First thought was oh it’s rather late, then the realisation struck, I am on my own, answerable only to myself.GD not home till about 7pm.
I quickly put a “ bit of face on” and decent trousers and off we went.
Our nearest M&S is now not on a public transport route so it’s ages since I have been.
I bought a couple of toiletry C……..S presents and two new cushions.
Sadly they don’t go well in the lounge but look great in the conservatory so I shall keep them.
I have decided to SKI ( spent the kid’s inheritance).

Just now drinking my tea when another friend rang to ask if I wanted to go to M&S….
I declined as it may be too much of a good thing, but truly I am feeling like I am getting my old life back… rather late in the day I know but if I continue to feel well I have decided to live till about 95.

That said I hope you are all feeling well and those you look after are improving and you all have the best day you can.

Grandmabatty Tue 12-Oct-21 09:46:48

Yiayia have a lovely time at the wedding today in your gorgeous outfit. Thanks for the reminder JaxJacky. Fish man√ Park next, although it's drizzle here and dd didn't put his wellies in so maybe a damp visit.
