I hate cats……

I really don’t like cats, I live in an area that is teeming with them.

Our local neighbourhood watch Facebook page is full of pictures of lost cats and now people are just posting “cute” photographs of their cats.

I don’t get how anyone can be so crazy about these furry pests that use my garden as a toilet.

Am I alone?

I am very fond of cats although we don't have one of our own at the moment. However our new next door neighbour has one - named by us, Kitler, since it does bear a significant resemblance - and unfortunately as she has no bare earth in her back garden it is using our pots as litter trays. Deterrents are being investigated...

Cats frighten me. They have scary faces, sharp teeth and claws. My neighbour's cat kills my garden birds!

My late mother-in-law used to say she hated all animals (apart from the ones she ate), which I found to be very strange - but she was a miserable, uncharitable old trout with no compassion for anyone or anything.

OP here The title “ I hate cats…..” was attention grabbing and it worked.
In the post I used the term “ really don’t like”.

Not all cats bury their poo, I can guarantee, one used our front garden for weeks, I stopped it with menthol crystals eventually.

Our neighbourhood watch page should be for crime but it has become a cat appreciation page.

I hate cats ,or their owners really.
We spent 11 years creating a garden for wildlife. New neighbours moved in with four cats…it was carnage. My birds had got so relaxed here so were easy prey. Our field mice have gone, birds are still killed, voles are found chewed up,etc. They use our deep beds as a loo.
I have a wildlife camera ,but it mostly picks up cats now.
I have a dog who will chase them, but he is usually with me.
I don’t allow my dog to go in other people’s gardens to kill,or crap .
Please if you have a cat,at least keep it in between dusk and dawn,or,preferably give it a catio.

LOVE cats...wherever I lived we always had cats .....when we lived in Spain we had one ancient one from the UK, who was joined by three Spanish strays ......then over the years living in France, again, we were 'chosen' ha ha by three neighbourhood strays and one of a neighbour's cats kittens who decided he would rather live with us ......sadly over the years most of them died and now I live in a retirement flat I cannot have one which is really unfair !!!!

I don't hate cars but would never have one for a pet. I don't find them cute and dislike the fact that they use our garden for a toilet. I am a dog person, don't have any now but grew up with dogs and had dogs for many years.

Nannan2 Fri 24-Sept-21 11:50:51

How can anyone 'hate' an animal?im a cat person rather than dogs, but i dont hate dogs- some of my AC have dogs and i pet them when i visit & take them dog treats- i couldn't hate them.we have always had cats in our family over the years too and our current one is 14 now.We love him.??

I’m surprised cats would poo openly on grass because they usually bury it . Sounds more like a fox to me.

Cats definitely poo on grass and leave it uncovered I’ve seen them doing it in my garden Grrr!

They certainly do, HannahLoisLuke! At one of our old homes my toddler son came in from the garden more than once covered in the vile stinky stuff.

I don't hate cats but I certainly don't like them. I hate the way. they kill the garden birds that I feed. I don't like the way they wander into my garden to get at the hedgehog food.

And I can't stand seeing dead ones on the side of the road.

Apart from anything else I've no idea how cat owners can rest knowing their pet is crossing roads willy nilly and in many cases not making it to the other side.

My cat never climbs on to kitchen surfaces and I would not like it at all.
Possibly the couple of times I have shoved her off have taught her, but I doubt it. I don’t think cats are that accommodating.

ExDancer Fri 24-Sept-21 11:48:06

Hannahloisluke my cats are trained never to jump on the counter tops. They know not to sleep on the beds too and not to go near my leather sofa.
I don't know how I did it, maybe shouting and banging the table when they did it as kittens, but it can be done.
Dare I say, as a farmer's wife, I hate badgers?
And I'm not so fond of rats?

Blossoming Fri 24-Sept-21 11:44:20

You certainly can teach them not to jump on kitchen surfaces or dining tables. None of our cats have ever been allowed to.

catladyuk Fri 24-Sept-21 11:41:04

See my name? I'm just lost for words, cannot understand how anyone can hate an animal, no matter which species.
We inhabit this earth as equals and should respect and honour all living things, until this is realised there will never be peace and understanding

Our two naughty siblings, Cooper and Lola, on the butcher’s block this morning, probably a warmish place in the absence of a lap!

There’s another reason I don’t like cats. Always have to have a vantage point and choose the kitchen counter where food is prepared! And you can’t train them not to so always scrubbing and disinfecting before you can make a sandwich.

We have three dogs. Cats choose not to come into our garden. Pigeons use our garden a lot. They wallow in our bird bath and leave a greasy slick (among other leavings) on the water so I'm obliged to clean up after them, for the sake of the little birds. The little birds are safe from cats in my garden.

HannahLoisLuke Fri 24-Sept-21 11:21:17

No Sago you’re not alone. Whilst I wouldn’t go as far as saying I hate cats I do dislike them. In my opinion they haven’t evolved in the thousands of years of living with humans and are still basically wild animals. They don’t need to hunt but get pleasure from killing hundreds of thousands of birds and small animals. Even neutered they still spray a noxious liquid all over my very expensive clipped box balls, leaving great dead patches. The long haired one next door litters my garden with vomited hair balls Yuk, and they enter any house with a cat flap, eat the resident cats food and often bully that cat too.
I have owned many cats in the past and grew up with farm cats who lived outside in the barns. They had a job and were useful but pet cats, no. No loyalty, purely self centred, wandering the neighbourhood causing trouble, yowling and fighting at night.
Far too many of them.

MissAdventure Fri 24-Sept-21 11:09:56

I'd love to get a super soaker to use on the dog owners who allow their pooches to crap on the grass outside my flat.
Disgusting!

Grandma70s Fri 24-Sept-21 11:07:18

The many cats I have known have buried their poo. Not nearly as offensive as dog poo was before the rules about picking it up came into force. Pavements were hazardous and dog poo on shoes was quite a common occurrence. Cat poo on shoes never happened.

Paperbackwriter Fri 24-Sept-21 11:02:29

If you don't want cats in your garden, get a super-soaker. Hours of fun.

sazz1 Fri 24-Sept-21 10:58:06

To me a cat is a working animal ie to control nice. A dog is for love and companionship.
Sadly we can't have a cat anymore as daughter is so allergic her throat starts swelling. So it would effectively bar her from visiting

Blackcat3 Fri 24-Sept-21 10:53:28

You are alone! Hate is a very strong word.

Frogs Fri 24-Sept-21 10:48:08

I think Sago just wanted to wind everyone up, and let us go …… perhaps she’s a secret cat lover ?
