Steve Coogan to take the leading roll in BBC's drama about Jimmy Saville.

What do you think of that?

* Title and opening post edited by GNHQ (please see OP's subsequent posts)

I wont watch, I could never stand that creature.
I just want to forget about him. Ugh.

Sara1954 Thu 30-Sept-21 14:07:19

Of course it won’t be a tribute.
It’s going to make very unpleasant viewing for a lot of people who got him so completely wrong.
Top of the list the BBC

MissAdventure Thu 30-Sept-21 14:04:47

Yep!
That is very telling.

CraftyGranny Thu 30-Sept-21 14:03:24

Do you think the drama will expose those that knew what was going on yet did nothing to stop it.

In fact, BBC banned Johnny Rotten in 1978 for outing Jimmy Saville

Lucca Thu 30-Sept-21 14:02:43

Already established its not a tribute

eazybee Thu 30-Sept-21 14:00:56

I can't image it will be a tribute, but as I really cannot bear Steve Coogan I shall not watch it.

Sara1954 Thu 30-Sept-21 13:50:48

It’s funny how he was practically a National hero, but anyone who ever met him, or had anything to do with him, now say he was at best creepy, at worst a very frightening predator.
To be honest, it will be interesting to see how he got away with so much for so long.
Uncomfortable viewing though.

And the majority of people who turned a blind eye, cosied-up, lavished him with honours etc., are still alive, apart from Margaret Thatcher.

Riverwalk Thu 30-Sept-21 13:45:50

Have you never watched a crime drama about real people CraftyGranny?

CraftyGranny Thu 30-Sept-21 13:43:45

Yes Lucca I do object. Why make a drama about that animal, when the majority of his victims still live. Why put them through that. It is just wrong on so many levels IMHO.

Thank you Alegrias flowers

Namsnanny Thu 30-Sept-21 13:43:24

Happens to us all from time to time CraftyGranny

Lucca Thu 30-Sept-21 13:42:27

Don’t understand why it is too soon ? Genuinely I don’t.

crazyH Thu 30-Sept-21 13:40:25

GNHQ has amended the title to ‘Drama’

grannysyb Thu 30-Sept-21 13:40:25

I will not be watching this. Far too soon.

Lucca Thu 30-Sept-21 13:36:20

Do you still object to it though ?

Lucca Thu 30-Sept-21 13:35:21

Thank you.

Alegrias1 Thu 30-Sept-21 13:34:40

Kudos, CraftyGranny flowers

CraftyGranny Thu 30-Sept-21 13:33:23

I apologise for the word, I was repeating what was said when I first heard about it on youtube. I should have fact checked first.
Foot in mouth, I am sorry

Aveline Thu 30-Sept-21 13:32:47

Alegrias grin

Riverwalk Thu 30-Sept-21 13:32:07

Why is it too soon Elegran?

It will show how royalty, Catholic church, the BBC and the political establishment were enamoured of his charms and let him get away with his known behaviour for decades.

annodomini Thu 30-Sept-21 13:30:35

It sounds as if it could be self-flagellation by the BBC. If it isn't, perhaps it should be.

Lucca Thu 30-Sept-21 13:29:36

Elegran

It is too soon. They should wait until it has become as much a history story as Jack the Ripper.

When I saw the word "tribute" in the title I was horrified, but it seems it is no such thing. "Tribute" implies that someone is being praised for something, not that the story of how their crimes escaped deserved retribution for so long.

I don’t agree. I think it is something which needs to be seen. Yes it will be a hard watch but it’s a kind of “warning” which should be out there.

Alegrias1 Thu 30-Sept-21 13:29:21

She's may be off somewhere eating her roll.

Report me, I'm past caring.

Lucca Thu 30-Sept-21 13:27:36

Wouldn’t it be nice if OP returned and said sorry she had misunderstood ??

Oops was that a ? overhead ?
