Any suggestions for an anniversary present for DD and husband please ?

lemongrove Sun 03-Oct-21 22:37:55

We just send cards for our AC wedding anniversaries, so have no idea really, but surely flowers are a nice gesture?
Tin isn’t really a great present is it??

MayBeMaw Sun 03-Oct-21 22:44:09

Depends - a can of unleaded?

Greenfinch Sun 03-Oct-21 22:46:57

I don't usually buy anniversary presents either but they seem to think 10 years is something specialconfused

Have they hinted they'd like a gift? Maybe a gift voucher for a favourite restaurant? I would steer away of something to keep.

The two metals represent durability and flexibility needed to sustain a loving union. You should find something on the Etsy link from Lizzie72.

I live in Cornwall and when MrM and myself married 5 years ago, we had wedding rings made with a band of Cornish tin inset into them.

Greenfinch Sun 03-Oct-21 23:09:57

No they are not expecting a gift and I doubt they even know that it is a tin one.

lemongrove Sun 03-Oct-21 23:16:51

What about a lovely shrub for their garden?

It’s hard to say when we don’t know anything of the couple’s lifestyle and tastes but here’s an off-the-wall, play-on-words idea. Or it could be on the wall if you bought a poster!

Hergés Tintin, the courageous young Belgian reporter and adventurer and his faithful dog Snowy.

If the couple have young children it might spark an interest in these delightful icon characters and their associates Professor Calculus, Captain Haddock, Thomson, and Bianca Castafiore.

There’s a Tintin shop in London’s Covent Garden and plenty of other online retailers selling books, card, posters and other memorabilia. thetintinshop.uk.com/

I made up a decorated box of quality things in tins. Biscuits, chocolates, cans of drinks, pate, etc.
It was a fun present and they were amused.

That's a great idea..........how about adding a bottle of 'Tinto', too?

I was also going to suggest a gift within a tin. I buy both ACs little anniversary gifts - a tin of Betty’s teabags was much appreciated and the tin is still in use. Not much help if OP needs something a ‘bit special’. Check online as I’m sure every year has alternatives.

For dd’s 10th anniversary I bought lovely ornate candle holders made of tin from Blue Hills Cornish tin. They are really beautiful looking like polished silver. The company also do jewellery and other giftware all made from Cornish tin. Take a look at www.bluehillstin.com

Many thanks for all your suggestions. I am following them all up and I love the heart shaped candle sticks and other gifts made from Cornish tin. I also liked the gifts in a tin idea. We were going to do something similar for my sister in law's golden wedding but it did not come off due to the pandemic .I had a hamper and I was going to fill it with 'golden ' food e.g. tin of golden syrup, Terry's All Gold chocolates etc.

Our youngest DD will have her wedding anniversary in 2 weeks. We are planning to give them a gift card for a restaurant. You can buy a card which can be used in a number of restaurant chains to pay for or put towards a meal.

Greenfinch Mon 04-Oct-21 16:25:31

I do like the idea of a restaurant card. I am always a bit of a ditherer and now can't make up my mind.confused

Ten is for tin so I bought my son and his wife a fancy tin of biscuits from Fortnum and Mason. The tin makes a lovely keepsake.

A do it all tin opener.

It's pewter/tin, so I'd definitely go for pewter. Museum Selections have some nice pewter gifts. I always buy things when I see them (charity shops, antique fairs etc.) and then bring them out when appropriate. The last family anniversary I had was glass and I just happened to have a beautiful Waterford glass frame I bought in a charity shop years ago. My niece was thrilled.

I bought DD a tin garden planters off Etsy probably galvanised steel but she liked them with plants to fill them.

My anniversary gift to DD was babysitting so she and son in law could have a long weekend away.

I'm happy to write a poem for you if you give me a few details of the person/s and favourite place or something funny/ sentimental. No charge, I just like writing poetry and then I'll message / email it across and you write and or print it out and frame it .

Our middle daughter and SiL had theirs last Saturday. As it is tin, we sent an Emma Bridgewater biscuit tin and some vegan biscuits to go in it. (She is vegan). It was very much appreciated.
