Boots (Wellingtons)

Pink Barbour wellies for me with matching socks. DH used to say they’d help rescuers locate me!

Still wearing my faithful old Hunters, full and calf length, roughly 20 yrs old.
DD1 bought a pair of hunter wellies in TKMaxx. A fraction of the cost if lucky enough to find your size.

valdali, very good idea, thank you. A bit of lateral thinking often goes a long way.

Has nobody heard of a bootjack for pulling off your wellingtons?

hollysteers If the reason you cannot get your boot off is because you have a high instep and it jams in the boot, a boot jack is no use, because if you are standing, which you really have to be to use a boot jack, when, after much pulling your foot finally pulls through, it does with a sudden rush causing you to go base over apex.

DH no longer wears wellington boots because removing them is so difficult. He has his offshore safety boots and wears those instead.

I have muck boots. They’re really comfortable and flexible.

Monica I sit on a chair in the porch with one foot on the jack behind the boot and hey presto, it’s orf!?

Mountain Warehouse sell rubber wellingtons, reasonable price too.

I bought long ‘muck boots’ last winter. So comfy, easy to get on and off (foot waterproof rubber? Tops neoprene so soft and comfy and warm). Keep trousers clean too
Priced at around £100 on Muck boot site but I found mine by googling for £64. Highly recommend

Pavers do some decent water resistant boots

I bought a pair of Zoo adventure boots last year in a sale. I think they’re a Dutch brand. I can’t get on with wellies because of needing more support. The Zoo boots are made of leather and are waterproof. I find them a little on the heavy side and need 2 pairs of socks but they are comfortable and will last for years.

Muckboots.

If you look on the Dunlop website, it says their 'Purofort' material (secret formula compound) outperforms rubber and basic PU "on all important aspects". I find Dunlop wellies are excellent and inexpensive.

On thing to be careful about is the type of material they use on the sole. I have a brand of short 'duck boots' from a Canadian store; they were not expensive and excellent for walking in slush and rain. My husband has a more expensive brand of 'Bogs' which are comfortable, but the sole is very slippery in cold weather. It seems the rubber/plastic hardens in the cold and makes them very slippery on any frosty surface.

My daughter has Aigle which she loves and wears all winter.

To add to above a duck boot is rubber bottom and leather lace up shaft.

I love my Aigle boots and have had them for 13 years. They've been worn for hours on walks varying from boggy country fields to seaside beaches and have been very comfortable. The adjustable gusset is very useful too.
