In2022 my DGD will be 18. On the very same day I will be 70. There will be an 18th party but I will be requesting the odd Motown tune . It’s just as well I also love modern music too

I don't dislike contemporary music, its just that I think it dosent have the same impact on me as the sounds that were around when I was growing up.....must be an age thing.

We've got the play list basically in 2 sections. Earlier on its more laid back while peeps get settled in and relaxed, then starts hitting the stuff that (I hope) peeps will want to dance to. Its around 4 hours long and amongst others The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Blues Brothers, Santana, Free, Bee Gees, Rolling Stones, KC and the Sunshine Band, Thin Lizzy (and Mud - anyone remember Tiger Feet??) get a name check, while some of the playlist isnt my own personal preference, I've gone for stuff that (I hope) has wider appeal and that people can have fun too.

60th birthday. It’s got to be 60s music. Beatles, Stones, Marvin Gaye, Bee Gees, Bowie, Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors.
It’s 1966 and I’m 16 and was so into soul music. One of my DGD loves it.

If you are celebrating your sixtieth birthday in 2021, you were born in 1961 so your teenage years were in the seventies. Glam rock, punk (if that’s your thing) and disco. Many of these songs are still very popular and easy to dance and sing along to.

Mid 70s to Mid 80s for me too, with classic Stones, Fleetwood Mac mixed in. I am just starting to sort out a mix on Spotify, keep hearing tracks I like and think 'Oh, I must add that!'. Some music crosses generations, some doesn't. My go to is the sound track from Saturday Night Fever.......makes the vacuum move faster in this house.

I’m 60+ and love Dua Lipa, Jess Glynn, Meghan Trainor and Pink but it’s not a proper party without an Abba Medley and Dexys Midnight Runners singing Come on Eileen!

There are quite a few cover versions of old hits which you might like and younger people will like too. I can remember a few years ago my teenagers being thrilled with this new song, Behind Blue Eyes, and they were staggered when I started singing along to it when they played it to me. Of course, when I played them The Who's version, they hated it at the time but are more tolerant of it now they are grown up.
