Staying on topic- threads in general

Do you mind if a thread de-rails after it has been running for a while and extends into other areas? I would have thought this was a natural progression of any discussion and sometimes the original subject returns with new light cast on it. It certainly seems in my opinion an odd reason for deleting any thread.

I'm sure there are plenty of completely potty people who hate women or are trying to take something away from them.

I just genuinely don't believe that's the intention of anyone here.

We will always be women, mothers, wives, doctors, engineers, singers, tap dancers or whatever it is we want to describe ourselves as and however we define ourselves to the world. If those words are banned from general use I will help burn the whole place down.

Until then fellow humans

Prof. Robert Winston was spot on, on Question Time, when he said "no-one can change sex". I think he knows what he is talking about.

I've been out all day and returned to see that Doodledog is still patiently trying explain, to the hard of critical thinkers, exactly what is at stake for women and their rights. Doodledog you've never lost your temper, despite much quite deliberate and obvious provocation, whataboutery and examples of male rape that, apart from having bugger all to do with the subject, has never once been backed up by a single example or statistic to prove the claims. You've resolutely tried to explain, in words of as few syllables as is possible, as to what is at stake for women if this tide of bullshit is allowed to gain any more momentum. There has been a wealth of evidence to show how women are being silenced, marginalised and diminished. There has been nothing from the nay sayers, who, apart from being unable to wrap their tiny minds around why natal women are angry at being reduced to no more than their body parts, also deny them the right to call themselves whatever they wish. It's difficult to decide if it's misogyny that's driving them or a lack of critical thinking. Could it be both?

Budge up JaneJudge and Galaxy.

Galaxy Mon 25-Oct-21 20:17:14

Ooh I like the sound of a gin club. Hav you got alcohol or food chewbacca. Thems the rules.

Galaxy Mon 25-Oct-21 20:18:10

Although maybe no more alcohol. Have not hav.

Doodledog Mon 25-Oct-21 20:18:12

trisher, if you seriously think that calling yourself a transwidow when you have lost your husband (widow) because he has transitioned (trans) is the same as believing you have a penis when your eyes can tell you you don't (a massive leap of faith), there is nothing I can say.

Rosie51 Mon 25-Oct-21 20:19:10

I had a Laithwaites delivery today, may I join in? smile

Doodledog Mon 25-Oct-21 20:19:36

Thank you Chewbacca. Is there room for a little one in the dorm? I'll bring a midnight feast (well, I say 'little one' . . .)

Rosie51 Mon 25-Oct-21 20:20:53

Oh no more alcohol..... I have halloween chocolates we could deny the kiddies.

Chewbacca Mon 25-Oct-21 20:23:35

Got some homemade damson gin that's around 4 years old? It packs a punch! And I've made a slab of sticky parkin today. It's heavy enough to be used as a missile so should be useful.

Iam64 Mon 25-Oct-21 20:32:32

Can I join you. I have delicious sugared almonds and some ouzo brought back from a small Greek island

Chewbacca Mon 25-Oct-21 20:47:06

JaneJudge Mon 25-Oct-21 21:01:46

VioletSky Mon 25-Oct-21 21:11:22

Hands off the Nutella one.

Lucca Mon 25-Oct-21 21:47:40

I don’t mind the terms trans women or trans men I just reserve the right to use the term woman.

Chewbacca Mon 25-Oct-21 21:52:03

Don't think anybody wants Nutella.

SueDonim Mon 25-Oct-21 22:19:37

I recently read Jan Morris’s book Conundrum. She says in it that she didn’t believe she actually was a woman.

Chewbacca Mon 25-Oct-21 22:23:56

Okaaay SueDonim did she say what she "actually was"? I think there was a thread in the Sex and Gender discussiin form on MN about her. It was interesting.

SueDonim Mon 25-Oct-21 22:35:52

I can’t remember, Chewbacca. These days, as soon as I’ve finished a book, it’s as though it never existed, because I forget about it. blush Only the mention of JM made me recall I’d read it.

Chewbacca Mon 25-Oct-21 22:37:41

Well, to be fair, all gender/sex seems to be so fluid these days she may well have changed her mind by now anyway.

FarNorth Tue 26-Oct-21 01:42:35

Transmen because they may be registered as men were missing out. It was therefore decided to advertise to ensure they got the information and the term "person with a cervix" was used. This nothing to do with transwomen. It isn't a barrier for immigrants or women speaking other languages because all women will be called for screening.

You can't be sure that all will be called for screening. People move around and/or may not be registered with a GP.
Seeing a poster addressed to 'Women' might alert them to the need for a check up, where seeing 'People with a Cervix' is less likely to do so.
The poster could say 'Women and People with a Cervix' if the aim was genuinely to be inclusive.

In any case, it's completely ludicrous that trans people get themselves registered with the wrong sex on their medical records.
It's carrying their delusion too far.
