Halloween

I love to see the children. Only had a few visits last night but our estate has a FB page s we have agreed to do it again tonight if we have left over treats

I put some lights out on my doorstep and just had a few groups of little ones all dressed up and excited, with parents waiting on the pavement. I had a pumpkin shaped bag of packets of sweets and they were very good just taking one pack each and saying thank you and wishing me a happy night one little girl went to dig in again but her sister told her not to !
I live in what’s deemed a disadvantaged area !!
I took the lights in about 7 and no one else called
I don’t actually like Hallowean but just do this low level bit every year

No sign of it round here last night. I usually join in, but we only got back home on Saturday afternoon after a week away and then I developed a migraine, so wasn't really functional.

Not only did no one knock on our door, the norm when the house has no pumpkin, but i didn't hear anyone in the street.

It was very busy here. Sone of the residents on our street had gone to so much effort. Making up little bags of sweets. It all made me smile.

We usually get a steady stream of callers, but yesterday there were just two groups of youngsters and none of the littlies we usually get, so we have leftovers! Lollies anyone?

DD lives on a new estate and the whole place was absolutely buzzing! Little ones dressed up accompanied by adults, often dressed up too - pumpkins outside houses and bowls of sweets. Other houses encouraged to knock, as the owners were in costume to hand the sweets in person. Some houses had inflatable ghosts, monsters and witches on their gardens and it was so enjoyable and good humoured, with adults and children recognizing each other in the dark (only 5pm). I was so glad I’d gone along - we did nothing like it in my day.

You’re all very lucky to have had no problems. In our area little yobs have been pouring hard surface cleaner over cars and vans, smashing windows and generally terrorising the neighbourhood.

Not many children in our village but they came round with their parents, my husband made up bags of sweets, he is eating the leftovers himself !!

We’re a bit off the beaten track and only had 10 callers, in 4 groups, all with adults. They were all very polite and the younger ones very excited. It rained all evening, so some had their big coats and hoods over the Hallowe’en outfits.

I’ve got an awful lot of sticky sweets and lollies left, that I don’t think would do my ageing teeth any favours. Note to self - stick to chocolate only next year!

Our road was busy too last night.

For the first time all the goodies I’d bought were gone and I also put balloons in the bowl for younger children. They were a popular addition.
It was nice to see the effort they had gone to and they all had parents with them. One lovely lady had a little boy in a wheelchair and an able bodied boy. They were loving it as like she said they live down one of the cul de sacs and don’t get any trick or treaters down there.
I put a few decs up in my living room for my grandson and will leave them there until his after school visit tomorrow.

I adore Halloween. Just love it for its twinkly, spooky fun and tiny witches with home made broomsticks and little white sheeted ghosts with chocolatey hands. Don't children just adore it! We always make the most of it here. I'm really sorry that some kids make it a bad experience for some of you and hope that changes.

I considered turning off the front lights and retiring to the bedroom to escape the festivities but I’m glad I reconsidered. Put up some Halloween decorations at the last minute and ended up having quite a nice evening greeting the trick-or-treat crowd and their parents. Handed out all the treats, too so won’t be forced to eat them myself! ✅

We had the 6 year old identical twin girls from over the road both dressed as skeletons and their 8 year old brother (batman). Delightful, polite children. Dad was in the background.

No-one came, but it was bucketing down with rain.

Sweeties anyone? Or perhaps you'd prefer a chocolate eyeball?

I’ll swap you a few chocolate eyeballs for a whole big pile of chews and lollies. What was I thinking? I’ve already got a chipped tooth and a missing filling awaiting my dentist’s attention next week.

Yes that is confusing for people.

We put a few pumpkins out and children called even though it was very stormy and wet!
Watch the Halloween episode of Motherland when people stopped calling . Very funny.

Never taken much notice of Halloween and not keen on slit throats, blood and gore!
However, my DD was due home around 6 after a long drive from the south, so I had my outside lights on and some lights around a little wooden decorative boat (from the Range, I live by the sea)
Three children turned up so I found some chocolate muffins, twas something.
I remember one year handing over bananas, not sure they gave much pleasure ?

No but very nutritious!?

I love Halloween and look forward to putting the pumpkins and decorations out and to seeing the children dressed up in fancy costumes. I had about 40 children call last night and, without any exceptions at all, every child was well mannered, said please and thank you and wished me a Happy Halloween! They were a credit to their parents.

We had a wonderful evening.
It was my dgd first time going trick or treating. She absolutely loved it. She was all dressed up her costume and asked me why finny, our dog didn't have his costume on.
My husband and son had a great time handing out the sweets whilst we were out. All children in their costumes, polite and with their parents. No trouble at all.

Very sadly, we only had 2 sets of callers. But there were only 2 houses on our street doing it, so I think most just didn't bother with us.

That's happened to us in the past Gagajo.
The weather may have made a difference?

The DGC can have the sweeties but I might eat the eyeballs when I'm desperate!!

I don't like sweets, thank goodness, and have a chipped tooth too.
