I mean, it’s a thread asking for an opinion. And that’s mine. You don’t like it, you’re welcome to give yours. But personal attacks are uncalled for.

So why tell other posters what to do or not to do?

Why do I need to know someone's pronoun? What interest or use is it to me when all I want is to ask if something is in stock/how much something is/whether I need a carrier bag or not? Why is someone's private affairs being announced on a badge on their shoulder to customers who dont need that information to make a purchase?

This is the only reason: M&S (to score more Stonewall points) as they have already made the changing rooms in their stores to “unisex”, which means there are no longer safe places for women and girls.

It wasnt a personal attack. The word culture wars is frequently used in my view to shut people up, it's similar to be kind I think. In general I find it a way of controlling what people want to talk about. That's all. I would guess that a lot of the women on here know quite a lot about this issue and dont really want to ignore it. Sorry if you thought it was personal, it's just chucked at wonen a lot on this issue.

Galaxy Sun 07-Nov-21 16:20:19

I am sure its freudian that I always spell women wrong on these threads shock

AugustDay Sun 07-Nov-21 16:20:38

Sigh. By that logic every post on here is telling people what to think. You shouldn’t resort to name-calling.

VioletSky Sun 07-Nov-21 16:20:41

I spose better start using M&S more to make up for any lost business due to... No reason I have seen yet, I saw a nice cardi there the other day and could do with some work trousers

AugustDay Sun 07-Nov-21 16:23:02

Sorry we cross-posted I just read that Galaxy. I’m not trying to shut anyone up. I just think live and let live.

Are the staff going to enquire of every customer their preferred pronouns?
Incidentally compelled announcing of pronouns is against the yogyakarta principles.

But how does their pronouns being on their badge impact you in a negative manner?

I can see, and mentioned in a previous comment, the potential risk for harm for those wearing the badges.

I don't see the negative impact for customers.

That said, I'm not a fan of all bathrooms being unisex. Male, Female and Unisex would be my preference. Of course, if people didn't insist on policing other people's gender identity, Male and Female would suffice, but an additional unisex bathroom could also potentially shorten the lines at the ladies bathroom.

Galaxy Sun 07-Nov-21 16:24:35

Didnt M &S reverse the changing room decision, I thought I read that somewhere, in fact I did some Christmas shopping there last year based on that info!

Galaxy Sun 07-Nov-21 16:25:27

And the sexual assault issue of course MercuryQueen.

MercuryQueen Sun 07-Nov-21 16:28:36

Galaxy

And the sexual assault issue of course MercuryQueen.

The sexual assault issue is why I prefer Male, Female, and Unisex, with everyone minding their own business.

JaneJudge Sun 07-Nov-21 16:34:31

I worked in a department store at one point and I would not want mixed changing rooms. I think some of you would be surprised what some people (read men) do to the mannequins in plain sight. Security had to remove more than one man a week for finding sexual pleasure with them. They used to break their fingers off too. I feel like I need a vomming emotion grin

Not just any madness, M&S madness!

Mattsmum2 Sun 07-Nov-21 16:35:22

I don’t have a problem with it and it’s probably more for colleagues to know how to address each other. It’s not Law but it is unlawful to treat someone differently under the Equalities Act. From my opinion it’s great that I would know how someone wants to be addressed if I needed to without wondering. I know some non-binary people who I address by their names as that’s easier.

PollyTickle Sun 07-Nov-21 16:36:10

Good lord JaneJudge that’s horrendous. ?

Calistemon Sun 07-Nov-21 16:36:24

JaneJudge that's a new one on me (and I thought I knew quite a lot through my work!!)

Hithere Sun 07-Nov-21 16:37:20

Janejudge

Wow that is disgusting

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 07-Nov-21 16:37:35

Good grief Jane. I have lead a very sheltered life.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 07-Nov-21 16:38:33

Your work sounds interesting Callistemon?

JaneJudge Sun 07-Nov-21 16:39:22

Some poor sod had the job of having to clean the poor abused mannequins too. I had to find spare fingers to glue back on. I had forgotten about this..what a varied life I have had involving other people's debauchery confused

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 07-Nov-21 16:40:39

Oh nooooo!!!!!

Galaxy Sun 07-Nov-21 16:43:00

Yes I agree completely. M,F and unisex would be perfect.

AGAA4 Sun 07-Nov-21 16:44:11

Good argument for not letting these pervs into women only spaces.
