Hoping no-one else has done this.

We need to get things organised for soop's return.

I’ve not had a chance to donate but will when I get five minutes to myself!

Latest update re Storm Arwen is that our village was reconnected at about 9pm this evening (Weds). Whether it will stay on, who knows? Some places that never lost power are now losing it. confused We want to visit home tomorrow to empty the fridge and freezers and see if the boiler has restarted. It’s all complicated by the cat, that we’re meant to be looking after our 4yo GC all weekend and all of the family are due home next week.

It’s also started snowing - heavily! Winter needs to stop now. I know it’s only 1st Dec but we’ve had enough. I managed to make contact with some neighbours this evening and very much got the impression that Tuesday broke them all. Not because of any particular thing, but that everyone’s resilience and can-do attitude had run out of steam with it all.

I was also very concerned to hear that one of my book group friends was uncontactable. She’s an older lady, with a disabled husband. Eventually someone found that they’d both been taken into a care home and they were warm and safe. It makes you realise how easy it is for people to slip beneath the radar. sad

How dispiriting for everyone SueD and disappointing in the extreme, incredible in 2021. I can only hope everything improves, rapidly.

GrannySomerset Thu 02-Dec-21 08:33:26

Thank you for allowing us to contribute to Soop’s recovery fund. It’s looking very promising already and we are keen to see the total rising quickly.

maddyone Thu 02-Dec-21 09:39:51

Morning everyone, I’m so pleased to see soop’s GFM page and the amount going up. It’ll get there, I know. Your operation isn’t too far away soop.

The weather is fine for our drive north. That’s a plus at least. I’m a bit nervous about the funeral. We haven’t been north since before Covid because the numbers have always been much higher than where we live, and now we’ll be there with many others. We must go because this is my husband’s dear mum. She was a lovely MiL and adored her family. She lived to be 94, so a good age and a life well lived. We did lateral flow tests last night, both negative, so we know we’re good to go.

My mother’s care home seem to be containing the outbreak of Covid, no more cases. Fingers crossed it’ll stay that way.

Haven’t got time to address everyone, but greetings to you all. Have a good day.

A follower of you lovely ladies in the Kitchen and the GM thread but never posted. I wanted to support the fund and add my good wishes to Soop and thanks to all who have helped with getting things up and running to enable us Gnetters to contribute.

Dear Soop, so glad the GFM is gathering steam, it won't be long now. Truly GN at its best, you deserve it!

Anno, many congratulations on your happy news, wishing your DGD well.

Enjoy retirement, Mr and Mrs BA, it's to be recommended!

BA and Dogs, maybe add some whisky to your hot lemon and honey drinks, purely medicinal! A toddy will help you sleep.

Brook and DH, safe journey to Cambridge, enjoy your family visit. Train travel is the way to go!

Our journey was so long because our incoming flight had a medical emergency and was diverted to Canada, finally arriving in Chicago many hours later. When we eventually arrived in Dublin, our connecting flight to Glasgow was long gone, things went from bad to worse before we finally got a flight to Edinburgh, then a taxi to Glasgow Airport to get our car.

So glad to be home again, negative PCR results arrived this morning, thanks Brook and Muse for ?, so relieved because we spent a long time in the airports. Looking forward to seeing our children and grandchildren soon!

Maddyone, safe travels to the funeral of your dear MiL, a sad time for you and yours.

SueD, I'm glad to hear that you're reconnected, fingers crossed ? The power stays on. What a worrying time for you.

Take care, stay warm, TOYA.

I’m not a poster in the kitchen, but do look in now and again,
So glad the GFM has been started for the lovely Soop, have made a donation, hope she can get her op as soon as possible.
Such lovely ladies in here, take care everyone, x

Gagagran Thu 02-Dec-21 11:15:38

So pleased to see the GFM fund creeping up for our lovely soop. She has always been held in high esteem and affection on GN and I bet in real life too.

I just want to say thank you to the kind Grans who have sent me encouraging messages. We have had a very difficult time with DH's health and he has had three major operations in the last 15 months but, his basic underlying fitness, determination and, might I perhaps claim, good home nursing, has seen him through.

He went through the operation which soop is facing in July 2020, when cancer was discovered in his bowel. This had caused his kidneys to fail and also neuropathy in his feet so he could not walk. He was blue-lighted into hospital when he collapsed on the floor and I had to ring 999. The consultant said he would have died in another 2 days. He was in hospital for 6 weeks and came home with a stoma, a permanent catheter, a walker and 2 sticks. In March 2021 he had a stoma reversal which has been totally successful and in July 2021 he had a third operation to reduce the size of his prostate which has enabled him to be catheter free. He is going for a CT scan with contrast on 17 December which we really hope will mean that he is put on an annual check only.

It has not been an easy time for either of us and I found caring for him exhausting along with the constant worry. Which is why I took a break from posting. It just felt too much.

He is back walking normally after a lot of exercises and goes out with his bike club once or twice a week. His surgeon promised him that he would "Get you back on your bike" and that acted as a huge incentive. We are enormously grateful to him and all the very caring and kind staff who have rebuilt him.

So I know what is in store for our dear soop and I can assure her that it is worth it. Managing the stoma soon becomes second nature and there is a lot of help and advice available.

I hope to be back with you now, as before we had this latest chapter in our life story. We never know what lies in store for us, do we?

Safe journeys to all the travellers and sending warm wishes to everyone.

brook2704 Thu 02-Dec-21 11:38:55

Gaga thank you so much for updating us and it’s heartening to hear that your DH is well on the road to recovery. I wish him all the very best for the future and it’s good to know that he’s back on his bike and enjoying life
I’m sure that a lot of his determination and positivity is due to your support and helping him through things so a big well done to you too. It must have been so difficult for you so no wonder you took a break from here
It’s good to have you back with us, sending warm hugs and support ❤️?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-Dec-21 12:30:32

Oh dear gagagran your DH has had a thoroughly horrid time. It must have been very worrying and tiring for you.

It’s good that he is on the mend now, lovely to have you back posting ??‍♀️

brook2704 Thu 02-Dec-21 12:40:13

Sue I really hope the power has stayed on for you, the snow has stopped and you’re edging just a little bit closer to getting a bit of normality back.
What an awful experience for you and all your friends and neighbours ❤️?

Blossoming Thu 02-Dec-21 12:54:33

Heavens Gagagran what a lot you have had to deal with! I’m so glad your husband is doing really well.

SueD hope you’re able to be back in your own home soon.
Safe journeys to Brook and Maddy.
Glad you’re home safe Granmarie I have really enjoyed reading about your trip.

Soop’s fundraiser is flying, the necessary treatment should soon be within reach.

TillyTrotter Thu 02-Dec-21 13:10:05

It is cheering to hear from you Gagagranand know your DH is resuming hobbies he enjoys like riding his bike. It has been made possible by the care of the surgeon and also your unstinting care. No wonder you have felt exhausted,
but I just want to say “Well Done” and wish you both a happy, healthy 2022.

TillyTrotter Thu 02-Dec-21 13:11:19

SueD I have fingers crossed that the snow let’s up, and your power stays on. This nightmare has to end!! Keep strong ?

Jaxjacky Thu 02-Dec-21 13:13:51

What a stoic and determined couple you are Gagagran I admire you, may progress continue from strength to strength and good luck with the CT scan.

cornergran Thu 02-Dec-21 13:21:34

So good to hear from you gaga, goodness you’ve both been through so much but how wonderful to know you’re coming out the other side.

Safe travels to all travellers. Hope Sued is warm. Take care all.

Auntieflo Thu 02-Dec-21 13:49:06

I am not a poster on Soop's kitchen, and have only popped in a couple of times, but I am so pleased that the GN's have done their best, and that the Fund raising will be successful.

Grannmarie Thu 02-Dec-21 14:04:22

Gaga and DH flowers

soop Thu 02-Dec-21 14:25:57

Darling You lot, I assure you that I have not forgotten you and our wonderful kitchen.

Gaga My kindest regards to your dear husband (and you). Your story is inspirational. Thank you for sharing with us. flowers

I have been on the computer all morning as I wish to tank all supporters of the "Happy Christmas" event personally. The computer is aged. A bit like me. It has known better days. The pages freeze every so often. I blaspheme. The computer doesn't do what it should and I feel exasperated.

Mr Soop is standing beside me. He wishes to add a message for each and every one of you. I shall therefore do the washing up. hmm

Hello to you all. In the midst of the gloom of winter, Covid 19, and sadness around the world, suddenly there was a burst of love, support and generosity from so many kind friends. Soop and I are overwhelmed, and we thank you all. If you don't read anything from us for a while its because we are busy sending individual thanks.

Aldom Thu 02-Dec-21 14:58:55

Such a thrill to see how Soop's fund is rising. Hoping by this time next week you will have what is required for your operation Soop.
A very close member of my family died this morning. The success of the GFM page shed a bright light over an otherwise sad start to my day.

brook2704 Thu 02-Dec-21 15:24:02

So sorry to hear such sad news Aldom sending deepest condolences ?

Hellogirl1 Thu 02-Dec-21 15:27:56

So sorry to hear your sad news Aldom.
I donated last night to Soop`s cause, but now I don`t seem to be able to find the right part of the Gofundme site to see how the funds are mounting up.

Blossoming Thu 02-Dec-21 15:48:16

So sorry for your loss Aldom.

Hellogirl if you type Soop in the search box on the GFM website it will take you to the right place.

soop Thu 02-Dec-21 16:17:21

Aldom A gentle arm around your shoulders. I hope that you can sense the love that is coming your way thanks to our very special Gransnetters. I trust that you have family to support you at this very sad time. If we lot could, we would come calling. flowers
