I have noticed that Camilla is walking behind Charles is this correct as he isn’t King?

Anniebach Wed 17-Nov-21 10:48:07

Phillip walked behind the Queen, I very much doubt he would have yelled ‘wait for me’

maddyone Wed 17-Nov-21 10:48:17

No Annie you’re right, she often walks alongside him. I think it’s just very formal events where royal protocol is used.

I think we can safely assume that any arguments between these two will not be played out in public, like those painful moments between Charles and Diana.

I should hope not at their mature ages. Diana was just a teenager, younger than my granddaughter is now.

I've always had to run to catch up with my husband! He doesn't do it on purpose, he's just so much taller, and faster than me.
Camilla has been known to walk ahead of Prince Charles, but I think that protocol demands that the Consort walks a couple of paces behind.
Prince Philip always walked behind the Queen.

Diana was 35 when she gave the Panorama interview

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 11:21:31

And 19 when she married.

Anniebach Wed 17-Nov-21 11:26:37

Yes and 35 when she gave that interview.

Why is it assumed a 19 year old is always an innocent, naive girl.

Is Greta Thunberg so ?

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 11:27:47

Moreso than a 35 year old, I would think.

Alegrias1 Wed 17-Nov-21 11:32:14

Diana and I were/are exactly the same age.

I watched her in amazement, thinking quite a lot of the time, why is she falling for this? How can she be so naïve?

I'm not sure her age had anything to do with it.

JenniferEccles Wed 17-Nov-21 11:32:56

It’s certainly not always the case that the husband is striding off in a temper MissAdventure
Like I said some men like my husband are fast walkers and he doesn’t always realise I sometimes can’t keep up.

Speaking of striding off does anyone remember Donald Trump walking in front of the Queen when he was here on a State visit?!

maddyone Wed 17-Nov-21 11:35:43

I do Jennifer. It was thought to be very bad form at the time I think.

AGAA4 Wed 17-Nov-21 11:37:59

Yes but Trump was the Master of the Universe so took precedence.

Josianne Wed 17-Nov-21 11:42:58

Sorry to confuse. I meant moments when Charles and Diana were captured together having an argument in public.

Anniebach Wed 17-Nov-21 11:56:27

Alegrias1 who do you assume she had ‘fallen for all this ‘ ?

Is it not possible she wanted to be Princess of Wales, as did her sister ?

Why is she believed about everything whilst Charles is the liar ?

Was she madly in love yet found him boring on honeymoon ?

Alegrias1 Wed 17-Nov-21 12:02:01

Sorry Anniebach, I can't remember if you think I'm a Diana supporter or not.

In 1981 my knowledge of the RF wasn't encyclopaedic and it still isn't. I just saw a woman the same age as me whose plan for the future was to get married and who seemed to think the RF were a good option for that. And who didn't seem to have thought it through much. I'm afraid I was too busy studying for a degree on which to base my future life to think that it was all because she was only young so she could be excused.

Lucca Wed 17-Nov-21 12:12:11

Why has this gone from a chat about protocol to the usual Diana bad Charles good carry on ?

Anniebach Wed 17-Nov-21 12:14:22

Algerias1 you didn’t live in Sandringham, grow up with Andrew and Edward, the Queen wasn’t godmother to your brother, your grandmother wasn’t a close friend of the Queen
Mother, your sister hadn’t dated Charles .

She did what was expected, by her and her family

Camilla has always walked behind Charles. He gets off airplanes first as well. She is being very careful to be a support to Charles instead of competing like Diana ended up doing. I don’t think she wants to be famous/celebrity. She seems to be a very good helpmate to him which is probably why we see him being much more cheerful these days.

Precisely. Haven't we had enough of celebrities in this day and age.

Exactly the right way for equals to be.
My ex used to try the old striding off trick when he had the hump.
Horrible!

It is really difficult if you walk more quickly than your partner. I'm always having to turn round and wait for DH to catch up, I just find it really hard to walk that slowly.

Yes but people who want to make it a feminist issue will totally ignore that as it doesn't fit with their view of life.

Mr. B always walks in front to warn me of any hazards and catch me if I stumble.

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 12:37:53

I think it's all ridiculous, regardless of which sex goes first or second.
It's not particularly a feminist thing, it's a human thing.

Who is saying anything about feminism ?? I just think this “ranking” thing is a real anachronism.
