It's probably been done before, but it's that time of year again, so.............your favourite carols please.

My absolute number 1 is In the Bleak Mid Winter, I love it.

Followed by Away in a Manger, preferably sung by 4 and 5 year olds, always brings a tear to the eye and evokes feelings of nostalgia

Silent Night - simply very beautiful

Over to you

Lauren, I wish you hadn’t said that. An animal in desperate need of help spoiling your enjoyment of a Christmas carol? Where’s your humanity? Sorry to derail and bring a sour note to the thread but as an animal lover I couldn’t ignore it.

I really don’t see how anyone could misunderstand my post!

My point was that the carol is now associated in my mind with the image of the dog, which is distressing. I wasn’t complaining about it.

I am an animal lover myself and volunteer for groups that feed stray cats and foster homeless dogs. I certainly didn’t mean to offend anyone! shock

I for one understood what you meant, Lauren59.

My apologies for misunderstanding your post Lauren and well done for your good work.

O Holy Night, it's lovely

Definitely "It Came upon the Midnight Clear". Traditional tune or otherwise it's the words that resonate with me.

Silent Night, by Sinead O'Connor, beautiful

Most of John Rutters work : best ever is Berlioz " The Shepherds Farewell ", and I, too, love children singing " It was on a starry night". Here in East Kent, however, the children often render the last line as " King of all the Weld ".I have a clear image of him in welding garb....

When I saw the title I immediately thought of In the Bleak Midwinter. There are so many lovely songs.

Our Ukes group have been practicing Christmas songs and carols for over a month now. One catchy one we're doing is Marys Boy Child, a bit different. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmm1gt_2SkQ

Grandmadinosaur, I,, too, love the Zither Carol. As a piano and violin teacher nearly all my pupils are playing Christmas carols and l have introduced several to this very lovely Carol. My pupils’ all-time favourite would appear to be We Three Kings, judging by the numbers of them who want to learn it. While I really like most carols, my all-time favourite is the Sussex Carol. I can remember a weekly tv programme we had at primary school called Music Time, where a note on the stave was lit up as a tune was played or sung and this carol was taught there.

Oh Come all ye faithful

I was a child and walking past the church possibly Christmas eve, the strains of this carol reached me through the stained glass windows, I thought it was wonderful - that is. I was walking to my grandmothers house, two doors along. This hymn always reminds me of her.

Just thought of another favourite. Infant Holy, Infant Lowly.

I'm a sucker for a Christmas carol. They bring back the memories of childhood and the sentiment that comes with them. Silent Night is my all time favourite and always brings a tear to my eye. I was an embarrassing mother with tears running down my face at school Christmas concerts as soon as the singing started.

Sheilasue Wed 08-Dec-21 14:22:51

Oh holy night is my favourite but I love driving home for Christmas and all I want for Christmas is you yes I know there not carols, ???

maggic Wed 08-Dec-21 14:29:45

The carol that I first heard sung by Giovanni Mauriello in “Another Time Another Place” (cracking film, by the way) remains my absolute favourite. A haunting and beautiful rendition.

I'll introduce a bum note here...I can't stand most of them. Some of them, the music yes and possibly the ones about wassailing which is definitely up my street. I must be a pagan throwback...

Damdee Wed 08-Dec-21 15:34:11

O Little Town of Bethlehem is my favourite. Plus Bambino by The Springfields which I suppose is not a carol......but I love it.

Bazza Wed 08-Dec-21 15:53:34

Christians Awake, which I haven’t heard for ages.

Kc55 Wed 08-Dec-21 16:09:35

Carol of the Bells is beautiful but O Holy Night makes me feel calm and loving. Should probably be on all day on repeat!

Hymnbook Wed 08-Dec-21 16:12:07

I love music by John Rutter.

CBBL Wed 08-Dec-21 16:22:43

I love lots of Christmas Carols! In common with other posters, I love "O Holy Night" and "Silent Night" - but I will have my CD's of Christmas Music found and playing, very soon!
