He attended court dressed as an elf, holding a doll. He sucked his thumb throughout the hearing. He identifies as a five year old girl.
His defence barrister told the Court that whilst born male, he identifies as female. Psychiatric assessments diagnosed personality problems, not mental health problems.
That was the point I made about the individual in this OP. Some posters take the view that mental health problems must underpin this kind of depraved abusive behaviour. That isn’t the case

Yes, that would be interesting to observe. I don't mean any sexual stuff, but to see how far the identifying would go, when I would think it wouldn't be an advantage.

yes, it's tricky.
to ordinary decent reasonable people many crimes seem incomprehensible, esp offences against the person, eg gangster violence, torture, intimidation; modern day slavery; child cruelty.
we often say, why would anyone even think to do that, they must be mad.
but the definitions in the criminal justice system are very precise as to what constitutes mental disorder causing offending.

As he’s been sentenced to prison it is probably safe to say any mitigating factors were considered.
I read that the presentence probation report described him as not acknowledging the impact of his crimes, unrepentant
If every individual who acted on their sexual interest in children and beastiality was sent to scarce mental health facilities we’d have to build many more
Maybe we should but some criminals need incarcerating

I think he should be in a secure unit which deals with sex offenders, Unfortunately these units are vstly oversubscribed and mix first time offenders with long term and dedicated offenders. They have been criticised as places where ideas and knowledge about sex perversions is shared and younger offenders are educated. So they are not ideal.
There are currently two prisons which accommodate women category A prisoners. Although the safety of those prisoners is questionable. Rose West had to be moved from one because of threats. She was then beaten up at Low Newton.

There must be very many people in jail who are not sane, but it's up to psychiatrists, criminologists and the courts to decide.

Definitions of insanity are extremely tricky, and without detailed knowledge of the case we can't possibly diagnose from our armchairs. I agree that dog rape doesn't sound like the action of a sane person, but in the end it is power over another being, which is arguably what all rape comes down to.

Do you think he should be in a women's jail, and do you think that anyone should be able to change gender id when a trial is pending?
