Magpies and crows - they sound like they need anger management courses.

Another one here who dislikes dogs which go on and on barking.

Most of the above plus squealing children, not the happy joyful giggles made during play, but the incessant high pitched squeals, particular when parents are ignoring them ?

Shelflife Mon 27-Dec-21 10:31:50

LtEve, I am with you - I too have lovely memories of my Mum. She too would recite " What noise annoys an oyster most, a noisy noise annoys an oyster most" Like you as soon as I saw the thread title my thoughts went straight to Mum. Looks like we both have happy memories of our Mums - how lucky are we !?

Barking dogs. Sniffing. Crackly snack snack packets.
DH scratching his head.

BlueSky Mon 27-Dec-21 09:33:11

People talking to me before my morning coffee!

ginny Mon 27-Dec-21 09:22:42

The noise on TV when DH is watching motor racing or rugby. How those commentators don’t have a heart attack I don’t know. !
Continual background music of any kind.
People who crack their knuckles.

All the bleeps that go with machines and appliances theses days.

Snoring when I’m still wide awake!!!!

CanadianGran Sun 26-Dec-21 22:57:42

Flip-flop, flip-flop. Summertime sandals drive me mad.

Also high-pitched buzzing. One of the computers at work occasionally hums, and also the fan over my stove is annoying.

Sago Sun 26-Dec-21 22:56:06

O other people’s mobile phones in public places.

Curlywhirly Sun 26-Dec-21 22:45:50

Oh most definitely someone sniffing or blowing their nose - yuck, just disgusting!
Anyone using a drill - reminds me of the dentist.

BigBertha1 Sun 26-Dec-21 22:25:16

My husband has a tapping or clicking habit with pens, his feet, his fingernails on mugs...drives me mad!!!

Mapleleaf Sun 26-Dec-21 21:49:50

Yes, there are noises that annoy, certainly. However, it’s impossible to eat either crisps or apples quietly, even with the best will in the world. They crunch, end of !
I think one of my pet hates are sweet wrappers being continually squished by the person who has eaten the sweet they contained. Another dislike of mine is people clicking their nails, uurgh - it’s as irritating as chalk squeaking on a blackboard!

Sashabel Sun 26-Dec-21 21:43:58

The dreadful tacky toys that people who should know better buy for my grandchildren - all beeping, whistling and playing horrible tunes. My daughter was not very happy this Xmas with some of the tat they opened and these came from relatives who know how annoying these gifts can be and say things like "you're not going to like this" to her as they open them. Very frustrating

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Dec-21 21:36:25

Crisp eating doesn’t annoy me.
Dogs barking incessantly
Motorbikes or cars nearby being repeatedly turned over and over
Dripping outside hitting something when it’s raining hard and we’re in bed. MrJ got up and moved errant watering can at 2am today!

Grannybags Sun 26-Dec-21 21:06:40

I agree with Chewbacca. Anything to do with noses!

Munching on apples
Wind chimes. Don't understand why you'd want them tinkling all the time
Dogs left home alone barking all day

MerylStreep Sun 26-Dec-21 21:00:36

People with chronic sinusitis can’t breath through their nose. They can only breath through their mouth, therefore they are breathing and eating at the same time. Not pleasant to witness but most times there is a reason that your not aware of.

Shelbel Sun 26-Dec-21 20:59:46

Dogs barking
People who are unnecessarily loud
Crunching on apples
Crisps
Loud thumping dance music
Lip smacking

I'm quite noise sensitive.

NanKate Sun 26-Dec-21 20:58:06

My tinnitus been rattling away for over 15 years arghhhhhhh.

LtEve

Lovely that the title brought such happy memories for you.

thanks

LtEve Sun 26-Dec-21 20:32:18

My Mum used to say 'A noisy noise annoys an oyster most'. Has to be said aloud for full impact.smile
As soon as I saw the thread title it bought happy memories of my long departed Mum.

Thank you and sorry for derailing the thread.

Other people doing DIY or using lawnmowers, strimmers, hedge cutters or power washers - infuriating. Building work, traffic and the horrid sound of car doors being shut.

I really should live in the middle of nowhere, not an end of terrace in London!

bikergran Sun 26-Dec-21 20:13:36

Sorry that should have been "hear" not here hmm

Urmstongran Sun 26-Dec-21 20:09:06

An unattended car alarm going off. Eek!

Grammaretto

Thats funny coz i was in a supermarket once and everywhere i pushed my trolley, this clip clop sound was behind me, it annoyed me sooooo much that i stopped dead in my tracks, turned to see the owner of the infuriating clip clop noise, smiled and said after you and swung my trolley to 1 side.
