Putting away Christmas- when do you do yours?

I am thinking of taking the Christmas cards down and putting away the festive ornaments today but leaving just the tree up til New Years Day. It’ll need to be down then as we’re having our ‘Imp’ from 2nd to the 5th Jan while Daddy takes Mummy away for a break!
I’ll need a lie down in a darkened room for at least a week afterwards, but won’t get one!
The decs are just annoying me now- anyone else de-Christmas before 12th night?

We leave the tree until 12th night. Everything else came down today.

1st time i have taken allllll Christmas things down, away thrown, hoovered up dusted, cleaned, even the freezer has been defrosted ( dont ask )

So basically welcome 2022 to a clean, tidy, tidy, tidy house.

I took everything down today, put it all in the loft (cards in the recycling bin)

Tomorrow I think, although we haven’t had much up this year as I have been poorly.

I usually take mine down on New Years Eve. It's a left over from when I was teaching and school started right after New Year. This year I'm a bit late. The tree, which was real, has gone back outside, but most of the other decorations are still up. I'll put them away today, but might leave the outside lights, which I love, a little longer.

Ours went yesterday, tree just has to be chopped up into garden recycling bin.

Ours are coming down today.

All done and tidied away in new boxes.

Just took the tree down but I’m leaving the cards for another week because half of them arrive in January owing to our incredibly slow postage system.

Today for me too, I took the cards down yesterday but left the tree and all the other decorations up for New Year’s Day. I don’t like the initial bare feeling once they’re down but soon get used to it, It will be good to get back to normal now it’s all over for another year. Once I’m tidy I might go and buy myself a nice bunch of fresh flowers.

We're starting to pack things away today. We have to do it over a few days, as we have lots of decorations out, and would never get it done in time if we left everything til the 5th.

Progress will be slower than usual, as I am suffering with a bad back, so MrLP will be going up the ladders, and fetching the storage bags and boxes down from the loft. I shall direct operations!

The outside lights will not be turned on after the 5th, but will have to stay in place until the next weekend, when MrLP will have time to take them down.

The room tree ( a real one ) will be the last thing to be taken down , and then will sit in the garden until Saturday 8th, when the scouts come to collect it. The trees are shredded for garden mulch. We give a donation to scout funds, and don't have to make a trip to the tip. Win/win!

Take care, and Happy New Year everyone! xx

I was always told that the decorations should come down before Twelfth Night so I always take them down the day before. I love them and hate the sudden bare look when they’re taken down. Fortunately we don’t have any neighbours who go in for garish outdoor decorations, we all just have lit trees and door wreaths.

I have just finished deChristmassing here and DH has taken the 2 boxes (one decorations and one tree) to the garage. I have dusted and hoovered and cut next year's tags from Christmas cards. These are in a Christmassy box in the office.
We usually only decorate one room and so it doesn't take long.
I'm exhausted by the effort that some of you go to.

Took ours down this morning . DH has put them back in the loft. We don't decorate outside ,and have a fibre optic tree, so it didn't take long .

Took ours down this morning between downpours, we had lights all around the bungalow, they’re now hanging in the greenhouse to dry.
All inside decorations are away in boxes and back in the loft. The robot vacuum has kindly picked up any stray bits of tinsel in the living room.
Our living wreath will stay on the front door till twelfth night.

Just finished and packed up - including the guest bedding and towels. I love the fresh, airy feeling and it seems like the house is twice the size now! Very tired, though!brew
