Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark and signs of rain this morning in brackley .
Yesterdays trip to Bicester was marred by the bus having a flat tyre , I was waiting for the usual depart not see it turn up, anyway I went onto the twitter page to see the above mentioned , posted it elsewhere to let others know , before catching it later .
Today , get rid of a load of rubbish , plus tidy up before I go out later .
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning all from a windy (outside!) Torbay.

We are awake early as I accidentally turned the central heating up in the night, having forgotten to turn it down at bedtime. Not sure if the muzzy head has been caused by that or the couple of glasses of wine I had last night! TIB welcome as we decide whether to do an early Lidl run or go back to sleep!

I hope your bus trips are trouble free today, Mick.

Have a good day, everyone! ?????

Have a good day and thoughts to those with troubles or are feeling under the weather ?

Hiraeth Thu 30-Dec-21 06:37:48

Good morning everyone from a wet part of Germany. Doing the usual grocery shopping this morning and tidying up.

Jeanver Thu 30-Dec-21 06:45:26

Hello everyone , I am a new member so would like to say Hi to you all. I live in West Yorkshire and have had 2 of my lovely granddaughters staying over Christmas, so I am relaxing now! Hope you all have a good day.

Nannagarra Thu 30-Dec-21 06:55:06

Good morning from Lancashire where I’ve been awake since silly o’clock listening to planes coming in to Manchester Airport but not to tawny owls as it has rained during the night.
I’ve been reflecting upon the very long queue I was in outside the pharmacy yesterday. Mostly it contained teenagers’ parents, displaying QR codes on their phones, eagerly awaiting a delivery of lfts and exchanging their news. A loud cheer went up for the delivery man who gave news of stock levels elsewhere.
I hope all their family members who have tested positive only have mild symptoms and wish the same for you and yours should it be relevant.
Sending warm thoughts and a smile and a wave to you all.
???

Welcome Jeanver. ?

grandMattie Thu 30-Dec-21 07:03:02

Good morning from a dark, stormy E Kent.
Sorry to hear of bad nights - I don’t sleep well myself and would love to have better nights.
Christmas went well enough;SiL was relaxed so didn’t shout much but DD was exhausted and was very fretful. I think she wanted the perfect days for us and although lovely p, the perfection didn’t materialise. So she took it out on me. Our relationship can be very rock, with me walking on eggshells, then getting caught if I let my guard down.
On the other had, we had a lovely day yesterday with DGS and his mum to lunch. He stayed the night and we spent the afternoon and evening playing “Crew”, an excellent cooperative game; great fun.
Hope everyone has a quiet day, pain and sorrow bearable. Carpe diem! ?????

FannyCornforth Thu 30-Dec-21 07:10:20

Good morning everyone, and welcome to Jeanver, and Hiraeth, are you new too?

Another damp day here in Derby, and I’m sure that it will be grey again today, not that it bothers me in the slightest.

I didn’t have a good day yesterday, which can’t have been helped by the two hour phone call(s) to Virgin media.
I’m going to make a special effort to have an improvement on it today!

I have chosen these cartoons that I’ve bought in the past as cards, for today’s ‘Fanny’s Funnies’.
I think that they have a certain Gransnet vibe!
(And a bonus cat cartoon which I couldn’t resist)

Have a peaceful and productive day all, and thoughts to those with difficulties x

AGAA4 Thu 30-Dec-21 07:18:10

Good morning from North Wales. Not sure what the weather is doing but I have to go out later to post DDs birthday card.
I slept well after being exhausted yesterday with all the travelling over Christmas.
Welcome Jeanver.
Have a pleasant day everyone and ? for those who are not doing well today.

brook2704 Thu 30-Dec-21 07:19:32

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a bit milder, the frost amd ice has gone to be replaced by rain
A very warm welcome to Jeanver and Hiraeth lovely to have you both join us
I’ll be up out of bed very soon to put the last few things in the case as we’re off to DD1 in Cambridge this morning, it’s a lunchtime flight so we should be there mid afternoon all being well.
GM it can be so difficult sometimes with families but pleased you had a better day yesterday
Hope everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care all whatever the day brings ?

Gagagran Thu 30-Dec-21 07:23:34

Good Morning everyone from a dark, damp and mild south coast.
Sorry your trip to Bristol involved eggshell walking Mattie. I can empathise as my DD can be just the same. I rationalise the hurt by thinking that she must feel confident in my love for her that she can be so difficult at times. I remember telling her when she went through her teenage rebellion that I would always love her even though I sometimes didn't like her very much. Things have eased somewhat since her Dad's illness and she has got a bit kinder and gentler. Fingers crossed for you!

Another Yorkshire rose joins us - welcome Jeanver. Whereabouts in West Yorkshire are you? We left in 2003 to move south to be near DGC but I still haven't transplanted fully after all these years, and often think of "home".

I need to finish a library book today and clear the fridge ready for the click and collect tomorrow. Otherwise, another quiet day on the agenda!

Have the best day you can everyone sunshine

Beechnut Thu 30-Dec-21 07:24:15

Good Morning everyone from Severnside. Although it’s still dark looks likely to be another wet day as it’s raining. You know that fine stuff that gets you soaked ?

Welcome Jeanver and Hiraeth.
I’m sorry to hear about your Christmas Mattie. There’s often great expectations about it that don’t happen leaving disappointment.

My arranged day to spend with my brother and sister law will not go ahead as they have something unexpected happen.

So I will carry on with my sewing job and check my cupboards to see if I need any shopping tomorrow.

I was pleased with my new tunic and even more pleased because I hung on to see if it would be in the sale and it was.

Have the best day you can all ??

BlueBalou Thu 30-Dec-21 07:30:08

Good morning everyone!
Another drizzly start here near Bath, it’s getting rather boring now isn’t it?
Nothing planned today other than walking daft dog and making a lasagna for lunch.
I hope you all have a good day x

Marydoll Thu 30-Dec-21 07:42:05

Good morning all from a very mild Glasgow, its a balmy 11° C here.

Fanny, thank you for the smile, I think you have found your calling!

Welcome to our new posters, its good to see some new people posting.
Hiraeth, willkommen in Gransnet, wo wohnst du und wie ist das Wetter dort?
Are you Welsh by any chance?

GM, I am sorry, you sound as if you are quite low. My relationship with DS1 sounds like that of you and your daughter. After a lifetime of walking on eggshells, I have taken a step back and lowered my expectations. It makes life so much easier for and much better for my mental health.

Wishing you all a pleasant day, whatever your plans.

dragonfly46 Thu 30-Dec-21 07:45:29

Good morning - dark here in Leicestershire.

Welcome Jeanvar and Hiraeth.

Dog walking this morning and Scrabble with friends this afternoon.
I used to be the same with my DD grandMattie but she has mellowed somewhat since getting married and finding a new career. I sometimes think we were too close!

Wishing every one a good day.

Daisytwoshoes Thu 30-Dec-21 07:45:30

Hello jeanverand hiraeth

MayBeMaw Thu 30-Dec-21 07:46:17

Good morning everybody from N Bucks where it is still pitch black and Rosie and I have retreated to bed.
Christmas can often be a let-down can’t it? Somehow the harder we try, the more we fall short of what we have hoped it will be.
All the more so Grandmattie in the emotional maelstrom you are surely still in.
Losing Philip such a short time ago, then the worries about your other son getting home, the strain of waiting for PCR results, little Iris’s surgery, your daughter’s professional commitments, all set in the background of this whole bloody Covid pandemic - I would venture to suggest it had to come out somewhere and unfortunately you were in the firing line.
When DH died 4 years ago, just a few weeks before Christmas, one of my daughter’s more perceptive friends said to her that Christmas would have been fraught whether it was one month or 11, and in a way it was best to get it out of the way and have minimal expectations. She was right.
We tried our hardest, the D’s spoiled me rotten, the whole extended family (17) was together, the little children helped us to smile, but really, best forgotten.
So you have my total sympathy, but hopefully you can put it behind you and accept that nothing could have made up for losing a son and a brother.
Wishing you and your family peace and comfort in 2022.

cornergran Thu 30-Dec-21 07:47:30

Morning Mick, morning All. Snap with the weather. Another damp start to our corner of Somerset

Still feeling pretty grotty so little on the agenda today, will venture out for some air if the rain allows. Our covid-son isn’t improving, beginning to get a worry itch about him now.

Hope Thursday is kind to us all.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 30-Dec-21 07:52:23

Good morning from a wet and very windy Oxfordshire.
Just a Chemist visit this morning, MrOops decided he wants a Quiche for lunch, it’s been years since I actually made one as our local eggcellent farm shop sell them, but they have gone up in price to over £7.00 so I’m going to make one, of course I don’t have any mushrooms as MrOops is very good at suggesting menu choices just after my shopping has been delivered.
Anyway it’s good to see some new names this morning.
Have a good day everyone and hugs for those who, for whatever reason are feeling less than chipper.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 30-Dec-21 07:53:10

No, the chemist doesn’t sell mushrooms but the supermarket is next door?

EllanVannin Thu 30-Dec-21 07:54:46

Good Morning All x.
It doesn't sound as though it's doing anything outside, no rain or wind. In fact it appears to be quite calm. Black as night still.

I've been awake since 04,30, made myself a cup of tea and watched a film about the Ripper with Michael Caine in it.
What woke me up was a smell of what I can only describe as something cooking so up I got to investigate. I'd left half a cut onion on a plate which I'd forgotten to wrap and the smell permeated everywhere. In the bin it went !

The onion was part of what I'd used making my potato salad yesterday, which was delicious but I don't like the lingering smell of it. Salad again today as I use up the rest of the salmon and everything else.

A late Christmas card yesterday lunchtime from ex. SiL saying that she'd been diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of May, then had 12 weeks of chemo after which she had a mastectomy on the 16th of December.
We've always exchanged Christmas cards and usually news by letter but I'll phone her today and see how she is and we can exchange moans.

Although I've been " programmed " throughout my life to clear the decs./ cards on the 12th night, they're all getting on my nerves now as I can't get around to do some proper tidying up/ cleaning, so away they go I think----the place is cluttered enough grin

Second cuppa on the go here, I'll be peeing past myself. I'm ready for the crumpets as well as tum's rumbling like billyo. What it is to have a rumbling tum, a good sign of an appetite.

Cats are fed, except the old Tom outside in his kennel he takes his time now, but looks so comfortable as I put a big piece of sponge inside a few weeks ago. It was part of some packing so has proved very useful for the old boy. His age doesn't stop him from eating though, he just loves his grub.

Dawn is just beginning to break, another new day, yippee , nearly another New Year. Lighter nights/ mornings !
Hope everyone is well and looking forward to any gatherings that might be. Enjoy your day, take care and stay safe.xx

GrannyGravy13 Thu 30-Dec-21 08:19:05

Morning Mick and all

It’s mild and breezy outside in S E Essex.

Busy day for me, the three youngest AC and families are here ( 6 GC aged nearly 2 to 13) for dinner. It was definitely my turn to host our twixmas get together (before I am past it they joked?). I shall be spending most of the morning in the kitchen.

The eldest two have other plans I totally get walking on eggshells

Hello jeanver and hiareth lovely to see new posters.

Know safe and well folks ?‍♀️?

Grandmajean Thu 30-Dec-21 08:19:21

Good morning from Cheshire.
Welcome new Gransnetters.
Some top up shopping today for New Year visitors. Seems calm out there but was very wet in the early hours.
Would like to get rid of the Christmas decorations but my Scottish upbringing won't let me do that until New Year's Day is over.

monk08 Thu 30-Dec-21 08:25:42

Good morning all from a damp Black country.
Welcome Jeanvar & Hireath? lovely to see all these new names.
Fanny thanks for the cartoons they bring an early morning smile.
Need to go into town today DH broke frame on reading glasses so the lens need to be swapped into the replacement one. I have a M&S voucher so will take a look in the outlet see if anything takes my fancy.
Over to Redditch later to see our friends.
Enjoy your day and may you all find some ?.
