What is you bedroom like?

We live in a 550 year old house and the ceiling of our bedroom reaches cathedral-like, far into the roof. It is also has a lot of oak beams in walls and ceiling. Centre piece of the ceiling is a large French chandelier. The furniture is all brown, either Georgian or Victorian.

Walls are magnolia and I have rose pink oriental style rugs on a floor of pale blonde boards. I am about to make some cheerful rose patterned curtains and am making similar patterned lamps shades for the bedside lamps.

I have an antique patchwork quilt on the bed. It is American and in the traditional log cabin pattern and. The predominant cover is white with red ans these colouurs are echoed in th new curtains.

A mess. However, after New Year is by. I intend to sort it.

The bedroom is on my list for 2022 and like you kittylester I am torn between different styles. Previously I have always been plain Jane, white, cream and minimalist in my choice of bedroom decoration (see photo), preferring to be more dramatic in the living rooms and kitchen. After lots of searching I was taken in by the style and colours in Alex Polizzi's newest hotel bedrooms, so I have chosen a midway compromise of green and blue fabrics as in the photo.
I do like the idea of the dark end walls seen in some of the photos in this thread, and at least when I am lying in bed I wouldn't see it if I chose a shocking colour. Time to be a bit more dramatic.

Kathy73 Go on to RightMove, look at the least expensive houses in any area and you will find homes just as tastefully decorated as those seen above. Indeed, all you are seeing is bedrooms. Why assume that because their bedrooms look lovely the house is, presumably, large and they are wealthy?

Good taste and an interest in how your house looks is universal across the world and at all levels of income and house size.

I posted once asking about people's sofas, and spent a lovely afternoon looking at pictures of everyone's living rooms.
Still made the wrong decision about the sofa, though.

Mine is totally cluttered too. Plain walls and carpet. Bedding and curtains lamps etc all match red and gold and are lovely. But every inch is used 3 drawers triple wardrobe desk chair tv bookcase, painting stuff. OH next door is the same. We couldn't actually fit into one room.

I really dislike my bedroom it’s quite small and dark. Those of you that have white walls, what colour did you use ? I have grey walls and carpet with navy and mustard curtains and mustard bedding, it’s looks really miserable as it’s north facing. Going to change it in the spring.

OK, peeps. What would you do with this? ?

I moved into my new pad two months ago and have been camping out in the only room available while doing up the rest of the bungalow.

Now it’s the turn of what the grandchildren insist should be a unique and quirky nod to my personality (think Angel Strawbridge on a shoestring budget)

I was going to rip out the built in wardrobe but the storage is invaluable and I’ve become weirdly fond of it ?

Scarlett and deep pinks are apparently the best to arouse passion in the bedroom so ours has pale grey walls, light wood furniture and accessories in shades of blue. ?

Would you consider something like Elephant's breath KatyJ? Dont be put off by the colour it looks in the tin because I can assure you it picks up the natural light in your room and turns subtly grey, green, blue depending. It is very fashionable. Personally I find white very clinical, but I like the sound of your navy and grey scheme. Maybe the mustard is too strong?

Now were talking merlotgran, that's a good space to let the imagination run riot. I vote the built in wardrobe has to go!

How about making a feature of the wardrobe doors?
Like a feature wall.
Paint them, replace them, or take them off and have a big, rich coloured swishy curtain instead?

My bedroom is just mine now since OH moved into our daughter’s old bedroom. In my room I have one wall papered in William Morris and the other three walls are painted apricot. The central lampshade is apricot with a gold pattern and from Liberty, the bedding is William Morris. I made the curtains from a sort of brown/apricot pattern. The carpet is pale green. There is a large mirror fronted wardrobe on either side of the room - one mine, one OHs. I have a bedside cabinet with an amazing lamp on it which I love. It resembles a large glass mushroom with green wrought iron leaves. There is also a matching chest of drawers and bookcase. Every room in my house, except the bathrooms, have bookcases. Pictures - on the walls I have: a large chocolate box Victorian painting, a photo of Queen Victoria, Albert and their nine children at Osborne House, a poster advertising South London and a black and white fashion photograph by Beaton.

Mine's an untidy mess too at the moment. Bags of toiletries, Christmas presents etc and some clothes that need putting away.
Otherwise, rather retro, 70s G plan style!

calm and cosy, all white mineral paint, not bright hospital white, pink candlewick fitted bedspreads and silk pillowcases as it is winter, pale pink and cream linen for summer. Two single hypnos beds as they were new 3 months before I was widowed, obviously they will last my lifetime and are next to each other. 3 lovely pictures, white fitted wardrobe, oak chest of drawers and bedside chests. Pale beige stained wooden shutters. Quickstep matt oak flooring and a dark sheepskin rug. Pale cream leather ottoman at the foot of the beds. There are a few plants all sansievieras. I only sleep, read or listen to the radio in there and I love going up to bed

I'd recommend filling the gap between the top of the cupboards and the ceiling if you have to keep them - it's a dust trap!
You could replace with more modern built in wardrobes that completely fill a wall
And the light fitting needs to go (oops, hope it's not your new one!)

I’ve had a cheeky peek in neighbours’ bedrooms where they’ve done just that and the problem is the room isn’t very deep so no space for a wardrobe other than a diagonal bit of wall and it all looks rather odd to me.

I rather like MissA’s idea of making a feature of the wardrobe doors so I might begin by painting the knobs! ?

I'm worrying now that the light fitting is new .....

Calm and very comfortable.

Very calm. Pale blue with large subtle silver flowers thereon and matching self coloured carpet. One small double bed and a bedroom basket chair. Complete wall sized fitted wardrobe with sliding mirrored doors conceals everything else and makes the room look much larger. Three very personal wall pictures. Absolutely love it.
