How depressing for a new years day! wherever did you find that?

BlueSky Sat 01-Jan-22 11:20:45

Sorry Serendipity but agree with*Lemsip*. Not today of all days!

Tricia247uk Sat 01-Jan-22 11:25:27

I loved it Serendipity thank you for sharing

Not depressing at all - loved it.

wildswan16 Sat 01-Jan-22 11:44:53

I don't see how anyone could find that depressing!
Thank you for sharing.

I thought it was very appropriate for a New Year, particularly when you think of what we have endured and those people we have lost in the past two!! If the sentiments expressed in it were taken on board (excuse the pun!) the world might be a nicer place to live in. Happy New Year.

Boz Sat 01-Jan-22 11:50:39

I was moved by this

Granniesunite Sat 01-Jan-22 12:06:00

I was very moved by The Train of Life and have forwarded it to many friends. Beautiful, not depressing. Thank you for sharing.

Zoejory Sat 01-Jan-22 12:24:55

Oh yes, I love this.

Not sure why it's depressing to some.

nadateturbe Sat 01-Jan-22 13:16:24

Thank you Serendipity. So true.

Agree Buffyfly9

Wishing everyone on GN a Happy New year.

Cabbie21 Sat 01-Jan-22 13:22:09

Suitable and thought-provoking for NYD.

BlueSky Sat 01-Jan-22 13:25:08

Maybe not so much depressing as upsetting. Today is an emotional day for many people anyway.

grandtanteJE65 Sat 01-Jan-22 14:01:11

I find it trite and tasteless rather than depressing.

I doubt I would find it appropriate on any day of the year!

Nothing and nobody will convince me that I could be expected to get on with everyone I meet in the course of my life.

The past 69 years have had their share of unlikeable, unkind or obnoxious people; a number of my "Fellow Passengers" presumably put me in one of those categories too.

I doubt the rest of my life will be much different.

And as I generally prefer staying put to travelling the metaphor didn't appeal to me either.

To those who need cheering up after reading this thread, I can recommend this year's New Year's concert from Vienna.

I have heard the Train Journey before and I like it generally. Life is a journey. But I have to admit it's true that we won't and couldn't be expected to get on with everyone we meet on the train.

SueDonim Sat 01-Jan-22 14:48:20

It’s too twee and sugary for me. I also fear I’m the passenger that no one notices has ‘stepped down’.

buffyfly9 Sat 01-Jan-22 14:48:59

Unless I have totally missed the point I did not take from it that I would like every single person that I meet through my journey of Life. I interpreted it to be an awareness of who we meet, to be open to question our prejudices and that we might miss a valuable friendship or encounter if we have a closed mind or a gloomy outlook.

It's an emotional day for me. The Train of Life brought tears as I remembered the very recent deaths of close relatives (December 2021) and the tragic death of my son not so long ago. My mother's death was also a Christmas death. I wasn't upset by The Train of Life, nor, for once, did I find it trite or sugary. Most of these things are sickly. I just found it very moving and actually helpful.

MissAdventure Sat 01-Jan-22 15:57:21

I liked it, too.

I think my train is subject to delays lately.

Happy new year, Serendipity smile

AmberSpyglass Sat 01-Jan-22 16:10:09

I think my train staff are on strike.

MissAdventure Sat 01-Jan-22 16:21:49

This thread has made me think of Phoenix, and her incredibly rude book titles.
Thomas the tank engine will never be the same for me after that. grin

My journey so dull, bleak and lonesome for a while. Long to get to a busy station!
