I have looked on the list of topics for hobbies but I cannot see any so I am adding my thread on here apologies it is not meant to be here.

All my life i have done sewing off/on, using my mums sewing machine for years.

Last year during 1 of the lockdown's i had the notion to sew bits and bats for my DG's who live abroad ( age 4 and 1 ) that lead to me making endless drawstring bags ( and i mean endless)

Then Christmas was on the horizon so i changed the material of the drawstring bags to Christmassy pattern and added a bell or two.

Whoaaa my kitchen resembled a sweatshop, hahahaha, i put up with the mess because it was contributing to cure my boredom.

Today my plans are scuppered and so guess what has found its way to the kitchen table ! Yep the sewing machine. ALLLL this has lead me to think I wonder what hobbie everyone else has?

Here is a photo of 1 of the 1,00000000000000 drawstring bags i have made haha ( slight exaggeration)

Hello smile
It's funny you should ask, but someone on a thread here mentioned the ukulele, and I have now convinced myself I should take it up, as that is obviously where my as yet unexplored talent must lie. (Lay?)

Your drawstring bags look beautiful Sependipity22
My obsession is family history research. It keeps you entertained (if that's the right word) for ever and ever because one discovery leads to another. It's like being a detective because you have endless mysteries to solve, puzzles to ponder over and real-life stories to uncover.

Go for it Miss Adventure. I started in a group of 10 before Covid started. We were all keen and we were able to learn a lot from the internet once lockdown started. It’s difficult to get together now because we met in peoples houses and there isn’t enough room to space out.
I like to play music, but Covid brought me back to doing cross-stitch. I don’t have to go anywhere to do that.

Everything to do with nature and gardening for me.

Sago Mon 10-Jan-22 14:34:45

Food! Eating and cooking.
Later this month we are to have the Aulis experience at L’Enclume. I am beyond excited.

I wake up in the morning looking forward to the days food and go to bed at night thinking about tomorrow’s.
As a result I have to spend a fair bit of my time at the gym?.

I might have a go, molly.
This thread has reminded me that Aldi were selling ukuleles a few years back, and my daughter was going to buy me one for Christmas.
It never did happen, so I should really go for it.

MissAdventure Mon 10-Jan-22 14:50:24

I also share Sago's love of food. smile

I once had a desire to learn the ukulele too MissAdventure. I somehow thought it would be easy. It’s not! I abandoned the plan. I started learning Italian via Duolingo during lockdown and I’m now on a 640 day streak. Whether I’ll actually be confident enough to converse in Italian when the time comes remains to be seen. Supposed to he going in July. We shall see what happens.

MissAdventure Mon 10-Jan-22 14:57:20

Oh, that's knocked the wind out of my sails.
It would probably end up shoved in a cupboard somewhere. blush

Sewing, knitting a little bit, but I'm not very good. Decorating. DIY in general. Have been known to plaster a wall before.

Right now though, no hobbies because I'm so busy I don't have time.

I started making quilts a couple of years ago. My hobby kept me busy throughout the Covid restrictions. I sewed away happily, listening to podcasts and audio books. I’m working on quilt number 14 and have plans in my head for what is coming next. Previously I enjoyed knitting and crochet. My other lockdown hobby has been walking, which I never particularly enjoyed before, but I’ve really loved exploring my local area this past two years.

AGAA4 Mon 10-Jan-22 15:15:44

Walking, puzzles and reading are the main hobbies at the moment but
my GD has ordered me to start writing again, something I used to enjoy, as I do have the time now but lost the inclination when the pandemic arrived.

Well, I have seen one on Amazon for 30 odd quid.....
Not too much to waste

Reading is my main hobby, closely followed by cake baking. I also enjoy knitting when my arthritic thumbs allow. Before the plague I used to enjoy taking courses at the V&A in London or at OUDCE in Oxford. Now of course everything is on line, which isn’t quite the same. Although, I attended an in person day school on the Social history of trains in Oxford last year.

My musically talented grandson says the ukulele is an ideal first stringed instrument to learn. Grandson plays: ukulele; classical, bass and treble guitars; keyboard; drums; and all percussion. The softer strings make it much kinder on the hands than a guitar, and it's less complicated with only 4 strings. Go for it!

AGAA4 Mon 10-Jan-22 15:32:13

My BiL bought a ukelele and joined a group who meet twice a week to play. He is surprised he is enjoying it so much.

MissAdventure Mon 10-Jan-22 15:34:54

I'm pretty good on the recorder. grin
London's burning.
Pease pudding hot.
Twinkle twinkle little star....

crazyH Mon 10-Jan-22 15:38:05

Food, glorious food !!!

crazyH Mon 10-Jan-22 15:44:18

Serendipity, love your drawstring bags …. if you decide to sell them, put me down for two or three…..they could useful for my collection of lipsticks, hairbands etc etc

Serendipity22 Mon 10-Jan-22 15:56:06

Yes crazyH i use mine for make-up and i have 1 upstairs in my drawer that i use for my black, thick tights ( rolled up ) AND i have 1 in my kitchen draw that believe it or believe it not, i keep 2 shower caps in hahahaha, true.

You might say "SHOWER CAPS???" well yes the reason being because i went through a stage of my hair dropping out at any opertune moment, ( menopause) usually when my daughter and GC were here, or THAT'S the is when i noticed it more, anyway i joking said that when they were here i would put a shower cap on so noooooo hairs ended up in their coffee, pop sandwich, blah, blah, blah, sooooo i now keep the 'shower caps' together in 1 of my homemade drawstring bags.

Phewwwwww long winded explanation hahahaha.

Archaeology, not necessarily on my knees in a hole. My interst is landscape archaeology. I belong to several local societies, am on their committees and edited the main societies journal for about 20 years.

I also enjoy antique dealing, we take a stall in several fairs a year, house renovation and sewing and knitting (badly).

Serendipity22 Mon 10-Jan-22 16:14:33

Wow, interesting MOnica.

My friend absolutely lovea nothing more than floating around antique shops, markets, antique fairs/fayre. She has been known to scurry about in her loft for 'things' that she swore blind were worth a fortune ( !!!!!! )

Serendipity22 Mon 10-Jan-22 16:31:17

These are my hobbies too, i fluctuate between the machine and sewing things made with felt and they all end up at the post office winging their way to my DG's abroad while my son say " ENOUGH ENOUGH" hahahaha.

My friends say "start selling" but i think nah, too much pressure. The present situation suits me just fine - do a bit, leave it i drawer for blah blah days then do a bit.
