six tries at getting the word right..... just one word a day...if the letter turns grey it is not in the word..... etc.

Yes but Callistemon* there is more than one answer to his example, so it's a matter of luck whether you choose prick trick or brick. Or am I missing something?

Mastermind has only one possible answer. I used to love the game.

?. I played that for hours with my two children nadateturbe. Brilliant game.

3 for me today. Happy with that.?

Allegretto Sun 23-Jan-22 11:56:25

And 3 for me too. It’s a great game!

That can’t be it nadadeturbe
Follow the link that lemsip provided in the OP
There’s one correct word a day

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Richard was talking about an earlier one ending in rick. not today's.

mokryna Sun 23-Jan-22 11:58:01

I think a first good word helps. I use the same one every day as it usually contains two or even three letters of the final word but not always.

Doodle Sun 23-Jan-22 11:58:23

There is only one correct answer I believe nadateturbe.
Have you tried the link in the OP as Callistemon suggested.
That explains it better.

Me too Muse. I love games. Unfortunately my OH doesn't at all. So they all sit on the sideboard shelf sad. I did try U3A scrabble but I don't like the strange words that aren't in the Oxford dictionary. (sorry, off topic)

BTW I'm happy to be told I'm definitely wrong about more than one answer in Wordle.

nadateturbe. But Wordle only accepts the word it has chosen for that day.
That day is was ‘prick’, and I passed on that word for brick which was refused, (thought I was too rude for an American game). Another day I put ‘mince’ which was refused when it was ‘wince’.

Thanks Mokryna. So you can work it out logically and still get it wrong. ?

Beswitched Sun 23-Jan-22 12:35:37

Started yesterday. Got it in 4 both times.

Yes, hence the luck / skill balancesmile

Cherrytree59 Sun 23-Jan-22 12:44:50

mokryna I couldn't make up my mind between Mince and Wince, Plumped for wrong one grr.
Better today 3.

nadateturbe Sun 23-Jan-22 12:58:21

Maybe I'm just feeling grumpy but I can't see the point. Yes it can be a balance of skill/luck, but in some instances its a guessing game.

Enjoy?

My first time today, I was resisting. The deadly killer Sudoku takes up enough time.
Got it in 3.
Oh no, must move to a smaller house with no garden soon.?

Tizliz Sun 23-Jan-22 13:30:32

After two abject failures last week I got it in two goes today

Blossoming Sun 23-Jan-22 13:37:08

3 goes today, I’m improving ?

mokryna Sun 23-Jan-22 13:40:58

Being me, I tried non existent words just to see what letters would be accepted but the game refused that way round of elimination. Luck plays a lot not like ‘Mastermind’.

Granny23 Sun 23-Jan-22 13:42:08

2 today, I'm getting the hang of it.

Delila Sun 23-Jan-22 14:43:04

True Mokryna, no luck involved and no shortcuts in Master Mind. It’s more challenging, but this is a similar idea & I enjoyed doing it.

Maggiemaybe Sun 23-Jan-22 14:47:00

But surely you could be lucky and get the line right first time in Mastermind, just as in Wordle, or Lingo. hmm

Delila Sun 23-Jan-22 16:07:10

Yes, you’re right of course, that could happen.

Tina49 Sun 23-Jan-22 16:10:07

Has anyone here ever got it on the first go? Surely the odds on that must be very very high? But once you’ve started - first word, or second - you can use some logic to make a more informed further attempt?

Of course but there can only be one correct answer.

Yes. I recall that Mollygo got ‘proxy’ in one this week.
Which I believe must have been some kind of psychic phenomena.
I apologise to the other Wordle fan who also got another word in one, cos I can’t remember! smile
