six tries at getting the word right..... just one word a day...if the letter turns grey it is not in the word..... etc.

So everyone has the same word world over with an American spelling..

Tried it earlier for the first time after reading the Guardian. Made it in four. can anybody tell me what happens if you don't guess it? Does the answer come up somewhere or are you left wondering?

Hi. Really not sure what I’m supposed to be doing here. Can anyone help. Please

Quizzer Wed 12-Jan-22 12:48:40

Took 4 goes. The only problem is that the word was US spelling!

Butweam1952 Wed 12-Jan-22 12:42:43

Took me 4 but word was USA spelling and I’m in UK!

Yes, good fun. I’ve got them all so far.

GrAnne2 Wed 12-Jan-22 12:27:59

Love this game! Yes, there is an element of luck involved as success is determined by the random word you select first, but deductive work takes over and I’m relieved it’s restricted to one a day!

Tanjamaltija Wed 12-Jan-22 12:20:34

Yes. It's fun. There are already several rip-offs, too.

Only one word a day?! Oh, no, I could do this all day long grin. Back to Classic Words…..

I've just downloaded the WRDL app on my phone - you can play more than once - its very addictive

I am now utterly bemused: have just done today's word - I won't say which, don't want to spoil it for others - but “American spelling”? The word I got is the same spelling on both sides of the Atlantic. Do we not all get the same word?

POW1 Wed 12-Jan-22 12:07:06

I got it in 4 today, but was it my poor grip on spelling, or does it use USA English, rather than UK English spellings?

NanaPorsche Wed 12-Jan-22 11:49:44

I didn't get the word today because it's an American spelling I would never use ?

moleswife Wed 12-Jan-22 11:45:05

Did it in 6 but did not expect American English!!

25Avalon Wed 12-Jan-22 11:43:26

Took me 5 because of the American spelling

kittylester Wed 12-Jan-22 11:42:06

I was just going to say 'Ignore Calistemon'. grin

Calistemon Wed 12-Jan-22 11:34:27

Calistemon

The yellow ones are in the word and are in the right place.

As I couldn't find instructions at first, so thought I must be unbelievably thick was confused at first
? (and it was nearly midnight)

Ignore me - apparently the green ones are in the right place and the yellow ones are in the word but in the wrong place according to Wales Online ?

Paperbackwriter Wed 12-Jan-22 11:33:36

I do it every day - sort-of HAVE to now! But this morning I was a bit surprised that, from a .co.uk website, the spelling of the word was American. I'm not the only one a bit miffed either - there was a lot of mild grumbling about it on Twitter.

BlueRuby Wed 12-Jan-22 11:26:25

Yes! Brilliant! Challenging!

Crystal46 Wed 12-Jan-22 11:19:29

?Addictive!

I already play six- letter word game with my sister (via FB Messenger), which only allows for the right letters in the right places, but it’s enjoyable and also gives us a peg on which to hang our many ongoing discussions.

Barrygirl Wed 12-Jan-22 11:17:37

Don't forget - Wordle is American and so has US spellings!

MayBeMaw Wed 12-Jan-22 11:10:51

lemsip

done in 3.

no spoilers or clues please, why spoil it for others?

If you see SPOILER ALERT another time - stop reading.
(It’s not as if I gave you the answer, but how else to comment on an irritation?)

MayBeMaw Wed 12-Jan-22 11:08:48

I have just tried another link and got a different word plus the chance to try again.
It could become addictive!

Zennomore Wed 12-Jan-22 11:03:46

Got it ! Thank you Lemsip for the recommendation.

humptydumpty Wed 12-Jan-22 10:56:39

Yes - got it in 4! but wasn't expecting American spelling...
