Been discussed before, I know, but in the DT today, it seems that support for this to be the Duchess of Cornwall’s title in the fullness of time is ever more likely.

I, for one, would be pleased to see this happen. Princess Consort would be a silly title for the wife of the King.

I have never thought Charles will allow his beloved wife to hold an inferior title.

MissAdventure

I did bugger all when I was a civil servant, and got promoted, too!

Swapping with the RF might come as a shock to you then. You’d have to work hard to learn the job, read briefing and be knowledgeable and turn up and meet people whether you wanted to or not and know you were being criticised for everything you do, say or wear.

MissAdventure Fri 28-Jan-22 19:48:43

I doubt that very much.
I'm a carer, so I have a very good idea about hard work.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 28-Jan-22 19:51:11

I won’t answer you Alegrias. It’s pointless. I admire what the Queen does, you’d like to be rid of the RF. If the English were to be given a vote on Scottish independence tomorrow you know exactly which box I’d tick.

Alegrias1 Fri 28-Jan-22 19:57:44

Yes, I'd get rid of the RF as our source of hereditary Heads of State. Its not the middle ages any more.

I admire the Queen as a person and wish someone would tell the poor old soul that we don't all expect her to still be turning up to smile and wave and sign the laws of our land at the age of 95. And that maybe her vow to serve us her whole life could be well served by her handing over to somebody who would be able to ask her advice before she leaves us and who wouldn't have to deal with being the Head of State while mourning the death of his parent.

And once people start associating the abolition of the monarchy with Scottish Independence I appreciate that they have no idea what they are talking about. smile

Jaberwok Fri 28-Jan-22 19:59:03

The same one as me Gsm!

MissAdventure Fri 28-Jan-22 20:02:19

I like the queen.
She is a grand old soul, and I'm sure at her age what she does is hard work.
It's the rest of them......

Alegrias1 Fri 28-Jan-22 20:02:34

I know this is an RF thread and not a Scottish Independence thread so I'll make one quick comment then say no more

Some of you seem to be absolutely fascinated to the point of obsession with Scottish independence, and bring it up in as many situations as you can. Does it keep you awake at night?

Jaberwok Fri 28-Jan-22 20:04:27

No!

maddyone Fri 28-Jan-22 23:00:01

I neither like nor dislike the Queen. She’s a product of her generation, and her upbringing. I also think that whatever work the Queen does, it hasn’t got anything to do with Scottish independence. I believe she doesn’t work hard, and nor should she have to at her age. Having said that, I don’t believe any of the royal family work hard. Are they diligent in their duties, yes, I believe they are, but they do not work hard.

I don't know the queen, I've never met her and don't really want to, either. No idea what she is like. Could be a nice woman, could be nasty, who knows? I guess that goes for most of the RF though some seem to come across better than others.

This recently from the Independent Newspaper

Republic has lodged a formal complaint with the Metropolitan Police over its handling of cash for honours allegations, accusing the force of an “unacceptable” lack of action.

In September, Graham Smith reported both the Prince of Wales and his former most trusted aide Michael Fawcett to Scotland Yard on suspicion of breaching the Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act 1925.

Haven't heard anything yet.

The Metropolitan Police seem reluctant to investigate those in power, the royals in particular. They claim to work without fear or favour but that doesn't appear to be the case

So the rich and powerful and the Royals are safe with the Met police.

Ex-royal valet Mr Fawcett is accused of promising to help secure a knighthood and British citizenship for a Saudi billionaire donor.

Mr Fawcett stepped down as chief executive of Charles’ charitable organisation The Prince’s Foundation after a string of allegations.

Mr Smith said: “The Metropolitan Police seem reluctant to investigate those in power, the royals in particular.

Wonder why The Met Police won't investigate without fear or favour?

I don’t agree adaunas. I put the proper amount of effort into my work in the public sector but there was so much more work to be done, tighter deadlines, so much pressure and much longer hours in the private sector.

But presumably paid much better.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 02-Feb-22 14:03:09

A very great deal better in time, not at first, but no pension! If I had stayed in the public sector amongst colleagues doing the minimum to get by and waiting for their pensions (I kid you not, where I worked they were all like that) I would have gone mad.

Well that is settled. Queen Consort.
Our Queen has the final word.

Kate1949 Sat 05-Feb-22 22:29:42

Indeed

Hear, hear.

I knew Camilla wouldn’t end up as ‘Princess Consort’.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Feb-22 07:11:46

Good. Seems sensible to me.

I’ve been listening to this being discussed on LBC, and there are some rather strange people with some rather strange opinions about this.

Thankfully, most people are more pragmatic and good hearted.
I like Camilla, she seems like a good egg

Peartree Sun 06-Feb-22 08:12:11

I agree Fannycornforth.
I like Camilla and she is a good support for Prince Charles.

Riverwalk Sun 06-Feb-22 08:28:30

Being the wife of a British king she was always going to be queen - talk of being princess consort was a sop to public opinion in the early days when there was much hostility.

Just as when various members of the royal family separated but announce there are no plans to divorce - they did that with Charles, Anne and Andrew. They have to break it gently to the public!

Sara1954 Sun 06-Feb-22 08:30:14

Good news. I too like Camilla

Gwyneth Sun 06-Feb-22 08:33:52

Pleased that the Queen has made this announcement. It settles the question and is the right thing to do. Camilla is a great support to Charles and I think she is an asset to the Royal Family.
