Been discussed before, I know, but in the DT today, it seems that support for this to be the Duchess of Cornwall’s title in the fullness of time is ever more likely.

I, for one, would be pleased to see this happen. Princess Consort would be a silly title for the wife of the King.

I have never thought Charles will allow his beloved wife to hold an inferior title.

I believe Diana only had her affairs after she realised how she had been used. She picked herself up, glammed up and said I'm here. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Er...FannyCornforth the quotation I posted is one I do remember, made by a person I remember (I asked if anyone else did) on TV, at a time when the succession was being discussed, and as an expert on the British Constitution and Monarchy , Norman St. John Stevas said that the wife of a King is always the Queen. Had I not remembered any details of this incident I wouldn't have been in a postiion to quote any of it......are you feeling allright this evening?

Rosina Sat 22-Jan-22 23:14:39

'position' ...terrible typist.

Coastpath
(If anyone has to be the next King and Queen then Charles and Camilla have put in the donkey work and it's their due.)

I like your turn of phrase, very apt!

Rosina
Apologies thanks
As you correctly detected, I was being a grumpy bint

I remember Norman St John Stevas Rosina.

He was wheeled out whenever a discrepancy on royal or similar matters was raised. I can picture him now…..

I always wondered if people pronounced his name incorrectly, and if it annoyed him.

hmm

So Camilla who was married to a philanderer had an affair and is the baddie. Diana had several affairs because she was hurt and this is understandable.

Why can’t some view this tragedy from all sides ?

Such ancient history this Diana stuff. Strange people still go on about it.

The tragedy is the misogynistic and hypocritical attitude towards women that underpins the Monarchy.

The heir can play the field in his youth but must choose an untarnished virgin for his bride.

Because of the intrusiveness of the media, Charles and Diana spent very little time alone getting to know each other in the way that 'normal' people do. The tragedy began right there.

The pressure was on him to settle down and produce an heir. The parenting skills of his father left a lot to be desired - Philip communicated his feelings about the relationship via a memo to Charles - "either marry her or let her go".

Charles' upbringing is a study on its own, and much has been written about it.

He should have been allowed to marry Camilla instead of Diana. But the attitude towards divorced women doesn't allow that because they are 'tainted'. That's the real tragedy.

If you look at the history of the Monarchy - it's mostly the women who fare badly under the institution.

I'm not a Monarchist anyway - but I do feel sorry for the women... Camilla, Diana - and Kate, who is under enormous pressure to maintain her goddess-like image. Fortunately the Queen has been well-trained from early womanhood to fulfil her role, understands her duties and is unlikely to ever put a foot in the wrong direction..

not ancient history to william and harry though

Anniebach Sun 23-Jan-22 09:38:16

Dickens Camilla wasn’t a divorced woman until 1995 .

The virgin bride is rubbish, do you believe all the girls he dated
were virgins ? They didn’t want to marry him, the media hounded them.

FannyCornforth and I was being a touchy pedantic old baggage. blush

FannyCornforth Sun 23-Jan-22 09:53:59

Rosina No you weren’t! ?

But do you give any blame to Charles at all ?

Anniebach Sun 23-Jan-22 09:59:14

Lucca i do feel sorry for Charles, as I do for Diana, it’s the
Diana was a saint that I think is unfair. But I am not one of the
‘All 19 year olds are victims brigade’.

Kate1949 Sun 23-Jan-22 10:07:40

If Diana only had affairs after she was treated so badly, then I don't blame her. If before, then that's a different story. We don't know the truth.

Lucca Sun 23-Jan-22 10:08:35

I was asking if you give any blame to Charles as you do to Diana ? As you were talking about “all sides”

I don’t say Diana was a saint, ever,

Indeed we don’t Nor about Charles or any of them to be honest !

MissAdventure Sun 23-Jan-22 10:13:06

For me, it was the fact that Diana wasn't a saint which made her interesting.
She was the first royal I'd seen to exhibit normal behaviour.

Anniebach Sun 23-Jan-22 10:15:55

We know more about Diana because of her book, tape recordings and panorama interview.

Sally73 Sun 23-Jan-22 10:20:29

Rosina and Fanny - delightfully and pleasantly sorted smile flowers

Kate1949 Sun 23-Jan-22 10:20:39

Oh yes, Charles should take some blame. I never think Saint Diana. I didn't know her, only what we see and hear. As MissA says Diana was the only Royal to exhibit normal behaviour. Personally I can't stand (what I know of) Charles.

MissAdventure Sun 23-Jan-22 10:24:04

Long before any of the interviews or tapes, Diana was like a breath of fresh air blowing through the cobwebs of "the firm".
