Good morning Auntyflo and all x
Good morning all from the Black country, sun shining but very windy. The washing is on so will dry a treat outdoors.
Started a new book yesterday so will carry on reading that. Visiting friends in Redditch later.
Usual Saturday full English calling so will take my leave.
Enjoy your day, virtual hugs where needed and may you all find some ?.
Windy, wild and wet in the north of Scotland. a disturbed night with emergency vehicles screaming past. For some strange reason, I fancy real rice pudding and as the oven will be on anyway, I will make some. Odd how food fashions change. Maybe Black Forest Gateau will come back into fashion.
suedonim has had a positive influence and I am doing a big clothes sort out for a local charity.
Off to watch the tennis.
Was lovely to get a wave and mention from GrandmaFench yesterday. Glad to know you still read the thread.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning all from East Yorkshire where it’s blowing a hoolie here too. What is a hoolie?
I agree about prices rising I’ve noticed it on many items.
I’m up and DH just of to fetch his morning paper. We spoke last night about going out somewhere today. I still can’t decide where.
I’ve enjoyed watching Michael Portillos railway journeys cup in Scotland this week. Ashamed to say I have never been but it’s another one on my ever growing list.
Take care everyone.
Good morning g all from a greyish North Leicestershire.
Today I have to change the bed, iron and go to the florist. I shall save going to the florist as my treat for completing the other two tasks.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Wild and windy here in the south west so I shudder to think what it must be like further north - the rooks are being blown off the telephone wires, which is very unusual.
Must post some letters and birthday cards so will have to brave the elements but otherwise, like most of us, I shall stay put. I am sure I can find something to do, just need the energy to get started.
Good morning Mick and everyone from wild and windy Carlisle. There's a lot of blue between the clouds driving over so perhaps we shall see some sun occasionally.
I had my head scan yesterday, they told me nothing so I shall have to wait till my GP has perused it. Hopefully, no further action because I need to buy some holiday insurance which I can't do whilst I'm undergoing investigations
That's a shocking price for fish and chips, Mick. I've lost touch with the price not having bought any for ages. My grocery bills have certainly gone up so I will be keeping a closer eye on them and considering what I order. I'm not on the bread line but I'd rather spend money on other things like books and my garden. I found a wonderful rose growers site yesterday so I will take a long look at it today and no doubt order some. It will be difficult to contain myself, they have so many of my favourite old-fashioned roses. I shall have to remember that my new garden is a lot smaller than the previous one.
Otherwise, catching up with housework is the order of the day. I have a mini mountain of ironing to do. Later, a book to finish off.
Do have a good weekend everyone with all the poorly on the mend hopefully.
Good morning from a cloudy and blustery Black Country.
Yesterday was a day of housework, reading my book, and homemade Beer battered Fish n Chips, made by MrJ, I did managed to sort his birthday present. Tickets for a play and a gig. So two outings to look forward to!
No real plans today, just pootling and faffing, and finish my book.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Thank you Marydoll
The train journeys are something to look forward to MD. I’ve a few friends who have also travelled on them and recommend them too.
Good morning from Durham where it’s wild and windy. Northern Power have e-mailed a warning that the gales will continue until Monday.
Came home in the dark yesterday - in the daylight, the garden is beyond words. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry!
Pavers are going to work over the weekend to get it finished.
Lovely to see our GN from French France posting again!
Have a good day. X
Here’s Matt.
I’m late. Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry but as Pooh Bear would say “it’s a blustery day”.
I woke before 7am and fell back asleep! Unusual for me.
We have a family gathering at teatime. Our Yorkshire Lass and her partner are driving over and Himself will pick up my stepfather. All meeting at our younger daughter and son in law’s for takeaway curry. We didn’t get chance to do this on Boxing Day as originally planned. So some late Christmas presents will be exchanged plus some January birthday ones!
We will all do LFT’s beforehand.
Enjoy Saturday all who can. I’m going to read all your posts now.

I had interesting conversation at the bus stop on a very cold morning last week, with an elderly , and rather fragile looking oldlady! We talked about the weather, naturally,, and the subject of heating bills came up! I commented on how nice it was to get up to a nice warm bungalow, especially bathroom! She looked aghast and informed me that younger generation too soft nowadays!
She then informed me that although her and other half are well into 80s , heating does not go on until 3pm in afternoon, and they sit with blankets wrapped round themselves until appointed hour, and off at 8pm. I’m lucky, she told me, in no uncertain terms, that we can afford it! Her son had told her not to use her savings to subsidise her heating bills, as it was his inheritances she was spending! Could not believe my ears! I know it’s her choice etc, and we should all try and be economical but surely to goodness your own comfort comes first. Fortunately bus then arrived! What do gransnetters think?
Good morning all and I slept In Due to our late night. Cirque de Soleil was amazing and we had a couple of hours in Covent Garden which is always a treat.
We went by coach and the traffic was horrendous. Rush hour(hours) on a Friday evening! Still , the driver was incredible and stayed jolly throughout. He deserved a big tip but most people didn’t bother. We had front seats just behind the driver and it was quite scary at times.?.
The weather here in Essex is sunny and calm - so different from the West coast, from what I hear! Take care all and I hope there’s no damage caused. ?.
I’ve just got Wordle in 2. I can’t believe this as I got it in 1 on Thursday! A complete fluke of course but pleasing to tell the family ?.
Sar I’m glad you enjoyed your meal last evening. Can you recommend the restaurant? Seafront? Good luck with the new boat. ?
GG - lovely for your DD to soon be moving. (And lovely for you, of course) you’ll miss them though!
* Mick* - fish and chips for £6! You would struggle to get it less than £9 around here. ?
A quiet day for us. Dd and gd might come round for afternoon fun but we’ll see how they feel.
Love and best wishes to all ?
Good morning from S Hants, 10deg. We slept late today. No real plans, MrJ will get the newspaper and we’ve fresh pasta for dinner, I’ll just make a sauce.
Best wishes to those poorly ?.
Enjoy your day all ??
I share your sentiment regarding the garden Georgesgran. Even our 16yr old GD, who has no interest in gardening yet, expressed dismay when looking at our garden! It’s soul destroying.
Good morning from the NE where we have gale force winds, it has been a dreadful night with disturbed sleep. I will be very surprised if there is no damage to roof.
Sister and BIL will call this afternoon with some shopping and then family will come for the rest of the day.
Yesterday I received three cheques from DH's premium bonds, he continued to win something every month after his death.
Stay safe out there.
A very windy day up here in Yorkshire, wishing you all a good morning
.
Today we are going to a good, old fashioned department store with my eldest GD ( 13 ). I want her to see it before it before it becomes a memory!
When you enter the store, you are greeted with a warm hello, the staff help the customer who is struggling ( mobility wise ) there are chairs positioned around the store to sit and rest, it really is an experience in this age of online shopping. We will get some lunch, then i don't know what is planned for afterwards.
My GD is sleeping tonight as well as lastnight, so thats great.
Enjoy your day everyone
A tree has come down in the grounds of our church and knocked out the phone line. No phones, live streaming nor internet.
The grounds are in such a mess.
Thankfully no-one has been injured, many cut through the grounds, as a short cut.
I'm going out into the garden to move some things, before they cause damage.
Morning all from a very blustery South Yorkshire.
It got very wild during the night and I’ll have to retrieve our bin later which took off down the path in the early hours, despite being anchored into its usual position. It’s a bit quieter now, but still blustery, as I say. I think we’ve got worse to come.
Not a lot planned for today other than a bit of shopping, after which, it’ll be “batten down the hatches” I think ?.
Take care,
Good morning Mick and everybody. Cloudy and grey in my corner of Lancashire this morning with strong winds, currently 7°C. Off out for the day to visit my cousins, will catch up with your news later.
Wishing you all the best possible day. May all those with worries find some comfort and all who are under the weather find some relief. ?
Not too windy here in Cheshire . DH has said he'll wash my car but think he's hoping it will rain and he can get away with not doing it. I'm not fussy about my car but it has an MOT on Monday and I'm embarrassed to take it as it's grubby. Am sure the results of the test will be greatly enhanced by a clean car.
Morning from wild and windy S Lanarkshire. Very disappointed that a much looked forwarded to lunch with a Gransnet pal has had to be called off but lots of trees along the roads around here so not worth the risk.
Your post confirms our decision Marydoll
So a quiet day ahead, but plenty I can be getting on with and I’ll keep my fingers crossed the weather calms down a bit so I can go to DD2 and family this evening as planned.
Wishing everyone a safe and pleasant day???
A loose slate has blown off the roof just missing my car which has now been moved further away from the house. Phew! Also noticed a neighbour’s wheelie bin tumbling along the road, no house number on it so another neighbour has taken it into hers before it goes dangerously flying on to the road.
Our cat is hiding under the bed feeling quite disturbed, poor thing.
